Elephant graveyards are a real thing! Elephants actually carry corpses to designated areas and "bury" them by covering them with leaves and trunkfuls of dirt. They're one of only a few animals known to actually mourn the dead.

+Josh Callejas The scene of Mufasa's death looks a heck of a lot like a place called the Olduvai Gorge (Tanzania), and in the gorge there is a place called "Elephant Korongo" (basically a gully that washes into the gorge) that looks a heck of a lot like the elephant graveyard, minus the elephant skeletons. There were a lot of elephant fossil bones found there, but it was certainly not a full-fledged "graveyard". My hypothesis is that's where Disney based the setting for the Lion King. There even were a bunch of tall rocks sticking out of the ground, like pride rock, in the area. Elephants die where they die, and maybe live elephants will pick up some of the bones sometimes, but they won't systematically put them all in a specific spot (like multiple elephant skeletons in one place).

Scar basically gaslighted Simba as a child(being that he was a child he was very vulnerable, especially psychologically). And he does actually say "it was an accident" but Scar continued to gaslight him, making him doubt his own sanity and innocence. The facts behind his fathers demise didn't become clear until right before Scar was going to kill Simba where confessed that he was the one who killed his dad.

These types of movies are always half in their long-ago fantasy movie world/half in our real world. Another example of that is in "Shrek 2" when Donkey mentions in-flight movies on the long wagon ride, the Shrek world did not have airports or commercial aircrafts existing in it, and was basically in a fantasy Middle-ages world. On another note, during the outtakes, 13:38 - what song is that playing? It sounds so familiar but I just cannot actually remember what song it is

5:54 - Answer: This is an important part of Scar's character. It's a subtle exposition on the nature of real life evil. He rarely ever does anything himself, because he's actually weak in body and mind, so he gets the hyenas to do it all for him. He only killed Mufasa himself because he had already invested a lot of effort into this setup, and it was about to fail if he didn't exploit the advantage in that moment. His dependence on others to do his evil for him ultimately is his undoing in the end, because he betrays the hyenas by trying to shift the blame onto them, then still expects them to do his bidding so they turn against him at the climax of the story. This isn't a sin; it's brilliant writing.

Okay, so many people seem to go immediately to real life for an explanation. Never mind that in real life, Simba would've died, since lions can't live and grow off of insects. Nala's father is... Nala's father. (No, really. He doesn't have a name.) He had Nala with Sarafina and then left, or died, or both. He's not Mufasa or Scar. He is his own lion, just one devoid of any real character.

12:01 - Scar was also never good at physical combat. He himself admits this right at the beginning of the movie. Even his takeover plan did not call for any brute force on his part except for when he threw Mufasa off the cliff, and even in that situation, Scar clearly had the advantage. Also I have a hard time believing he ever engaged in any fights since becoming king. From that scene where Zazu sings for him, it’s pretty clear he just loafs around all day caring for no one but himself. For these reasons, I’m pretty sure he and Simba are on the same level here.

+molly oldfield 1 parent dies, not both. It took YEARS for the lion kingdom to turn to ruin, and it was never Simba's fault. What was he going to do, nibble Scar's ankle? The plot demanded Simba come back, truthfully ANY of the lionesses could have killed Scar and went looking for another male lion to be king. Scar's rule was killing the Pride, that bastard should have been kicked out or killed looooong ago, no matter bloodlines. There is only 1 conflict really in Lionking, that being Scar. Meanwhile in Frozen there are like 4 different conflicts between the evil badguy, Elsa's magic, the 2 merchants I think they are?, and Nature/The Land itself at one point. Look at point 3, Plot demanded Simba come back, even Elsa didn't need to return to 'save the day'. She could have still been in her ice castle when she saved everything. Same with Simba in the Lionking not actually needing to return to be King. That was just demanded of him because of the plot, and no other logical reason. What's more, Elsa only saved the weather, that's it. That last part is true, magic is what saved both 'kingdoms'.

Actually an elephant graveyard is only noticeable in dry periods, when the water that usually occupies the area has dried up. Elephants, being one of the largest and heaviest species on earth, have great trouble supporting their own weight when they become old and frail. It becomes easier for them to spend time in the water because their massive weight does not stress their muscles as much when they’re partially submerged. Since old elephants spend so much time in the water, and any body of water is rare in the savannah, most of them die in that one particular spot where the water is situated. When the changing seasons cause the water to dry up, the skeletons are concentrated in that particular spot, and it seems like a spot elephants come to - for no other reason - die. That’s what started the myth that elephants, when they feel their time’s up, go to a specific place to die.

I have actually heard a legitimate explanation for the desolation on Pride Rock while Scar is king: overhunting in short range. See, the problem is, all the guy wanted was to be lazy and pampered, and have his prey brought to him, so his people had to be fast about it. What likely happened was that they hunted out the immediate area around the Pride Lands, which would, in real life, have a severe impact on the ecosystem, with nothing to eat the lower life that would in turn decimate the plants, which would THEN cause the remaining higher mammals to start dying off, too, or at least slowly starve to death, as is implied here. I'm not making this up, but I can't remember where I found the theory.

That fight between Simba and Scar, like you said, shouldn't nearly have been as interesting as it was made out to be, but not just because of Simba Yes, Simba grew up on a diet of bugs and had next to no exercise in his life, but lets not forget that Scar was an old man at this point and most likely had the last share of every meal. This was less of an epic battle and more of a pathetic slap fight between a thin, greasy teenager and a starved, malnourished old man. My point is they both suck and it was still an even fight, just for the wrong reasons.

The fighting ability is a freaking instinct for all cat-like animals. Just observe 2 kittens playing together for once. Even though lioness' are the hunters, the king gets to eat first, and he ain't even that old. As for Simba's diet, go watch MatPat's theory on "could Simba survive on bug diet" Also, you can make a healthy assumption he was physically active.

The vegetation and animals all died not simply because Scar was sitting on the throne, but because of the fact that he allowed the hyenas to roam the pride lands at free will. Hyenas are typically scavengers, and not good at hunting. If the apex predators of this ecosystem (lions) suddenly stopped hunting as the hyenas were now in control, the prey population would skyrocket. This would cause over feeding, and as time progressed, the vegetation would no longer be able to support the massive number of prey that now existed. Since vegetation would decline, many animals would begin to starve. Eventually, mass death would occur. Those that survived would move on, while the hyenas cleaned up the carcasses. This explains why the pride lands were completely destroyed and lifeless, because the ecosystem was no longer balanced.

Hyenas are both hunters (and good ones) and scavengers. Hell, lions do both as well. It's just mostly people see hyenas as scavengers and were used in this film as the evil lion's minions because of this misunderstood role/their relationship with lions.

8:24 It doesn't spell "SEX" it spell "SFX" meaning Special Effects. The SFX crew wanted to give themselves some credit.

I don't know man. I was at a party in junior high and we found the infamous frame. The room was in agreement that it said SEX, I know that psychology allows for that but I'm still pretty convinced

A lot of these sins are really dumb. Needs to be recounted Edit: T and B explained why they wanted Simba. And the fart and burp jokes were to symbolized how Simba left his responsibilities and is living a lazy, carefree life with T and B.

So uhm, no one is questioning how during "Hakuna Matata," they teleported from the middle of a desert to a dense jungle? Oh right, the power of a musical number.

Actually that's right outside of the jungle you can see in Lion king 3 a.k.a 1 and a half I suggest watching it because it shows Timone and Pumbas backstory and point of view during the original movie
