Casper was a customer of ours at Bert’s Big & Tall in Hayward. He was always a gentleman and it was always a pleasure working with him.

I got to see Casper play drafted in 1974 by the Oakland Raiders most important Super Bowl champion and there wasn’t no raider nation at the time raider nation started in the 90s

There was a raider nation in the 70’s too, we just didn’t call ourselves that. Ken “The Snake” Stabler along with so many other notorious players of that era bred the start of Raider Nation

In 1980, on a running team obviously featuring Campbell, Casper had second most receiving yards of any NFL tightend. Combining his Raiders and Oilers stats he hauled in 56 for 796 yards and 4 TD's. Winslow had 1290 he obviously blew everyone else away with Air Coryell and Dan Fouts, John Jefferson: The Jefferson Airplane, and the most cunning, calculating wide receiver of all-time as named by Bill Walsh when he coached him with the Bengals: Charlie Joiner.

His Oiler impact is underrated. In 1980, the Oilers were stuggling at 3-3 and Earl Campbell was sputtering nothing close to his 1978-79' output. Enter Casper after the Raiders traded him six games into the 1980 season. Houston went on an 8-2 tear and Campbell had several 200 plus yard games against tough defensive teams. Casper caught over 500 yards in Stabler's passes for a gaudy 15.5 yard per catch average and 3 touchdowns. But it was brutish blocking that really got the Oilers rolling. He had 8 TD catches in ten starts in 1981. Including an astonishing 17.3 average yards per catch. His finest season in the columbia blue and white was 1982. Casper hauled in 36 passes for 573 yards and 6 touchdowns. He rumbled for 15.9 yards per reception. Was robbed of a pro bowl berth mainly for the Oilers pathetic 1-8 record in the truncated season. The strike limited that season to 9 regular season games. Kellen Winslow: 54 721 yards 6 TD. 13.5 ypr Casper: 36 573 yards 6 TD. 15.9 ypc What this tells you is that stopping Casper after he caught wasn't a job. It was a hazard to the health of NFL linebackers, safeties, cornerbacks. He was a crafty, not overly fast but very nuanced route runner. Being an ex-tackle at Notre Dame his sophomore and junior seasons you can deduct that his blocking as an NFL tight end was extraordinary.
