The Legendary Dosa Man of NYC | Street Food Icons

Ойын-сауық

Thiru Kumar, AKA the Dosa Man, has been running NY Dosas, a food cart in Greenwich Village's Washington Square Park, since 2001. His dosas-which are made from fermented rice and lentils, and stuffed with potatoes, vegetables and spicy sauces-have become an international phenomenon. Thiru grew up in Sri Lanka and learned to make South Indian recipes as a child. After he immigrated to the United States in the 90s, he made it his life's work to sell affordable, fresh and vegan dosas to NYU students, professors and other passerby's.

I really think americans MUST stick their head out of the sand. You're so into that ultra capitalist bs, the individualism and know so little about the actual world; that genuinely scares me. The strong majority of people who's from a third world or developing country (me included) will NEVER make you feel guilty for something like that. If I have two dollars in my pocket and you need one, I'm gonna give it you regardless and I'll never bring that up or ask you for something back. I'm Albanian and in the last 30 years we went through the fall of the regime, civil wars, the genocide of Albanians in Kosovo and a state scam. My parents were almost killed by human traffickers trying to go from Greece to Italy, they still taught me how to treat people with respect and dignity no matter what.

South Indian cuisine is more Indian because invaders destroyed north Indian culture and experimented cuisines but outcomes were really tasty for non vegetarians. Siddharth Kapoor No dude come on. Don’t give up easily without putting a fight in your life. If you believe in god, just have faith in it. Nothing is permanent. Even this bad phase which you’re going through is not permanent. Everything will fall in place soon. Try to be calm. Do what you like. Ignore the negativity. Speak with people around you about your issue. Open up to them. Seek for help. Try meditation. Engage in spiritual activities. Keep your mind in peace. Drink more water when you get angry. Spend time with your family, friends and loved ones. You just need to have some more patience dude, you can cross this bad phase of your life. Believe that Everything will be alright soon. Don’t lose hope and give up on your life.

I remember being in NYC, (for "traveling" purposes) and while I was there, I saw the Dosa Man and his friend/family member, pulling everything off of the back of a trailer at the time, [this was in 2014, November] and as I was walking past, they looked like they needed a bit of help.. I usually say 3 people helping [with the weight of it all] and instead of- "choosing to just, keep walking by", and instead of rationalizing in MY mind- "they'll get it", I saw a "what COULD go wrong" sort of vision, so I was "nudged" to help. When we got it all off of the truck, he kept telling me- "no, stay I fix you meal, please". The first time, I ducked out because I was late for a meeting, less than 10 mins late. The 2nd time he caught me passing by, he RAN over and PULLED me back to his cart, to give me a dish! His samosas are phenomenal & the layering of his sauces, an explosion on your tastebuds! While I was eating nearby on a bench, he came over and asked- "why you don't like Indian foods? I don't cook junk food, you see no chips right?" There was a moment, in what seemed like hours of time, where our "sparks" had recognized one another. "Maybe from another time", as he referred to it.. As I explained it had nothing to do with the type of food, but more with the time of day which I consumed foods- that's when he mentioned, "the reflection of choice & deciding". This gentleman's heart, is far grandeur than a lot of things I had seen in NYC, during my time there. Although, many may "perceive" the city as, "dingy, dirty & unsanitary".. it remains in the "seerers field/view", the opportunity to: - #PurposelyChooseToSeeLight ..even, when surrounded by darkness. What, "innate seerers" can see, the level at which one can "recognize the reflection", embodying the grandeur, fractal & interconnectedness of "all that is", has become more of an "action based", conscious embodiment OF truth, in the reflection of- free will & subjective reality and by how one "intentionally chooses to decide, to NOT allow #PersonallyNegativeEffected experiences, to turn them "bitter". But to instead- #GoAgainstTheGrain2022 of that which, should have NEVER "been allowed", a space/time in the mind or heart. Realizing the difference, is but a stone in the greater pond of ALL. #NYCDosaMan #LifeEmbodimentOfVedicMastery
