Mama Jo is NYC's Official Grandmother of Breakfast | Street Food Icons

Ойын-сауық

Mama Jo has been serving breakfast staples like bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches and omelets and traditional Greek pastries, such as spanakopita and baklava, from her food truck in Midtown Manhattan for over 35 years. She claims to be NYC’s oldest street food vendor and isn’t planning on retiring her legendary food cart any time soon.
Mama Jo’s breakfast menu is longer than some dine-in restaurants’ menus, and it’s all done without sacrificing quality. She gets her ingredients fresh every morning in Astoria, Queens, serves food with a smile, and genuinely cares about her customers, really earning the name Mama Jo.

I always prefer buying from the NYC food carts rather than starbucks or dunkin donuts. These food carts are run by such humble and passionate people. And their food is so delicious.

People like this lady , make a city , the city doesn't make them . They could set up anywhere ,and with their mindset they could be a success . But being a success is only part of the journey , it's being loved as well . That's another element to why they are still thriving . You can shout all day long at people to get things done , but when you show appreciation for every osy around you , then people respect you for who you are . I hope she's still working , thriving ,& enjoying the life she has created for herself . The moment she stops moving , will be a sad day for everybody . It's what she was born or to do .

What an amazing strong, yet caring woman! Needless to say, the food business is a beast and as you saw, she sets up for the day in the wee hours of the morning! Also, in the summer that cart is a broiler and in the winter an ice box. If her children have half the drive and gumption she has, they will do very well in life. Kudos to her.

I have only two years of experience, but I learned that lesson pretty early on and from a customer, no less. When a customer came frequently enough, I'd learn their name and even be able to recognize their voice over the speaker, and I'd call them by name. Eventually, regulars for your company become regulars for you. I've had customers follow me to other stores so I could continue to serve them because they liked me. Customers like that have this magical ability to eclipse the otherwise shitty parts of the job and make it worth doing.

I started going to Mama Jo's breakfast cart on a daily basis after watching this video. Her food is soul-nourishing. My favorite is the olive bread, which is so savory. I also love the veggie omelet and home fries. Her Greek tiropitata and spanakopita are also delightful. I love Greek food, and I love Mama Jo.
