Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
Day 2 of this island survival adventure and my 2nd priority is to build a shelter. Then I'm blessed by a tropical downpour which gives me the chance to try out a primitive water catch system. What techniques would you use to capture and store rain water?

This is such a beautiful channel which not only helps one sleep, take their mind off something stressful or even acts as an escape but it also teaches one how punishing/rewarding wildlife can be. Chad my friend you’ve outdone yourself again.

That's perfect - punishing/rewarding. That's so true. It shows that through suffering we are rewarded. This was such an awesome experience for me. I learned so much, as I always do when I'm out there.
For decades I’ve been telling people that laying in water helps getting hydrated. Growing up in Mozambique, I learned a lot by hanging out with native old timers full of wisdom. What we see as survival skills, it was their daily lives, and I’m so glad that my family was poor, because the middle class and the rich wouldn’t go nowhere near their villages.

I've looked online for information about hydration through the skin but they seem to say that it doesn't occur but I have definitely experienced it at times I was super dehydrated. Just being in the water or wearing wet clothes made a significant difference. It's not nearly as effective as drinking water but it helps and is useful in a survival situation. I really admire the wise old timers that had no modern science but knew more than the modern day experts.

@@ChadZuberAdventures Talk about "Old Timers", Benjamin Franklin wrote about the porosity of our skin and hydration via what we call today the eccrine glands. Gareth Morgan (a Welshman) did a video on them where he tested freshwater absorption from seawater immersion.

It's about moisturizing your skin, so then you don't lose inside liquid in a humid and hot environment... This is how your body gets hydrated via external water. Secondly, avoid the direct sunlight as much as you can if it goes beyond 27-28°C, as it will again cost you with more body water to cool your down (for people living in the northern hemisphere and 35°c and above for the people from the southern hemisphere, where there is no ice.).

I appreciate your opinion but the location and climate will determine the sequence of priorities. I’ve spent countless nights testing on a rock, a beach, or just on the ground in warm climates. But in a warm climate you are going to need a lot of water and cooling off in the water is extremely helpful. Try it sometime and you’ll know what I mean.

Looks like these whole series of videos are about coconuts. They're just highly overpowered if you think about it. Coconut is a source of water, food, and fiber. It gives you energy to live, it gives you the necessary materials. Coconuts are tasty and healthy food. They're relatively easy to get. The bamboo was such a good find. It's one of the three tropical zone plants of life, besides a banana tree and coconut tree. The bamboo is great of it's young for water containers and finding water. They're also great for friction fire and building materials for huts. In the Philippines we use em to make Nipa huts. They are also great for cooking containers when green. Hmmm.... Since you got the smaller branches of a bamboo you could make nature's straw.. lol great for drinking out of a coconut without loss of liquid. And it's great firewood. Oh! And you can make chopsticks and other utensils out of em. Heck a young green one that's been peeled can be used as a knife for cutting meat and soft vegetables.

Awesome work on the rainwater catchment system. Pretty smart to use the stem of the palm leave. Also it is interesting that the dried bamboo doesnt hold the water well. Did it have some small holes?
@ChadZuberAdventures
11 ай бұрын
No, the bamboo just isn't water sealed. Maybe it's too old and decaying, but the water seeped through.
Your rain catching system was very fast built which gave you insight Now you can build a better system before it rains again First step is doing it right (you are) using the parts you have Bamboo (green holds water, brown (dehydrated absorbs water) brown is only good to channel water) green can hold it like a cup So surface area is key for collecting rain water you can also use green palm fronds to collect water into your gutters and channel that water into your gutters with coconut bowls at the end You are on the right track planning and prepping is key

Rainwater collection: use shirt & t-shirt stretched between pegs with pebble in center; coconut bowl underneath where pebble weight will direct water to bowl. Same as a leaky non-wateroroof tarp.
