As a normal human, I update my phone once every 4 to 5 years still rocking iPhone 12 mini. Watched every show since the beginning and certainly the 15 is tempting but I think I’ll wait till next year.

First time in 4 years when I AM NOT upgrading to the new Pro! I love watching you guys doing technical reviews and all that and YES! i get it! 15 Pro it’s better from almost all standpoints than the 14 Pro! And it would be cool to have it and all! But at the end of the day I would spend $1000 just to scroll on Instagram THE SAME EXACT way I would scroll on my current 14 Pro! Really not worth it!

I have a feeling given the last two big camera updates that the 16 Pro models or “Ultra” if so designated, will be an upgrade similar to the 14 Pro reg to the 15 Pro Reg where most of the distinguishable upgraded features will be tied to software features capable only on whatever new chip is powering the flagship 16-series models. If the 16 Pro/Ultra models have the same camera set up with no upgrade to their performance beyond new video or photo formats or tools and features software brings, I’ll be keeping my 15 Pro Max for another year happily.

One suggestion I would have for the Action Button would be to move it below the volume buttons. It’s just so inconvenient reaching all the way up there & having to press & hold to activate something (camera for me). It would be so much better to have it right there where most people have a finger resting in that spot anyway, & also be able to just press once to activate rather than a long press. Just a thought

Yea it's in an awkward position, and it replaces the mute function if you choose any other action. There's no reason that they can't put a double press as a secondary gesture so you don't have to choose.

55:29 Lads, I remapped the action button to a number of actions through the shortcuts app, I now a get as quick menu with “Mute switch-Open camera-Unlock door-Lock door” it’s sweet, I will probably add more over time 👌🏻📱

I’m on the annual upgrade plan and get the most advanced/most feature laden iPhone and I try and take advantage of the new features by using them as often as is practical. But it never ceases to amaze me the continual trope of influencers/tech reviewers who will buy the latest iPhone annually, tell their viewers don’t upgrade every year because there aren’t enough features to justify it while they upgrade themselves and then go as far as to say that they don’t intend on using the latest new features like the new telephoto zoom on the 15 Pro Max, or the 48mp RAW/HEIF format features. This year the regular 15 Pro is little different in overall day to day performance and usability and seems like there is no reason to go from a 14 Pro to a 15 Pro, only to the 15 Pro Max as it literally has a substantially better camera-but then they’ll sacrifice on duplicative features and performance just for what? USB C? And even with USB C, you’re not going to be recording the new ProRes or LOG format videos or taking the high res RAW stills because every year you say they’re features you’ll seldom if ever use on a phone where it’s admitted that the new performance from the processor is indistinguishable from the previous year’s phones. Obviously people can do what they want to do with their money and buy what they want and use them how they want it’s just the rationale is bizarre. I’m no pro photographer but I try and use all the new features on the latest flagship iPhone I can as is practically possible.

I thought the jump in camera quality from the 13 pro would be good, but this is a STARK improvement with the 15 Pro Max. I thought having the bigger sensor alone would be enough for me to be happy. But the new processing algorithm eliminated the sharpening artifacts that the previous versions had. Not to mention better color and dynamic range. I'm VERY happy I upgraded.

I think MKBHD has said this multiple times, companies make compromises in features to set apart the budget models and the compromise for iPhone is refresh rate and camera differences and an old year old processor that is much faster than any competitor.

Why can’t I check the battery cycles on my 14 Pro??

I was always planing to upgrade to the 15 series because 15 is my favorite number and I ultimately gone with the 15 pro max for I want the best cameras, and I absolutely love it, battery life, Camera, Action Button, Dynamic island, and etc it’s all so good! I love it and am so happy with it!

27:37 Rule made by the $300 phones with 120 Hz mate. For $800 it's looks like a mockery to me.

Video play back on the 15 Pro is longer because if you’re viewing 24 or 30hz content, the display can play it at its correct frame rate. Vs. the 15 staying at 60hz no matter what all the time even when viewing 24fps content. It’s the same on your Apple TV, Match Content dynamic range + frame rate on or off. You’ll see less jutter on match content, depending on how good your tv does motion at 24hz.

I saw the keynote and realized they shared the same display from pro last year. Went to the Apple site and saw that it was not pro motion. Said to my self, keeping the pro in the pro motion and still bought the 15. The current regular 15 is a steal at the price. Basically last years 14 pro.

It all makes sense now. FPT videos have been amazing lately. It's the gummies. Don't stop the gummies.

I see you point of view regarding the 60Hz, and at this point I don't really mind either ways, but consider this - if you are looking to buy a car, you won't just look at the mileage or just the infotainment, you'd look at the whole package and consider the purchase on multiple fronts, similarly if you're buying a phone, case in point the 700 dollar Pixel 8, it has comparable hardware camera as the iPhone 15 regular, and has a faster refresh rate display, so the competition being there and iPhone not being in its own bubble will always make that one spec stand out, especially because it is the primary way a user interacts with the phone. Lack of a telephoto lens was never a concern because it doesn't directly affect the user experience. Specifically to the point you make about "who decided 800 dollar phones need to have 120hz displays" and dismiss people who are complaining about the refresh rate, I personally think they aren't in the wrong and it is kinda why they think you're biased, because comparison to competition is obviously gonna happen and iPhone doesn't exist in a bubble/its own category.

Complaining about the battery when you're on a different carrier, etc is not apples to apples. Does the Aussie carrier have same specs as Verizon, or is that phone struggling for reception, etc. in your area? If you have same life with your US phone, then so be it.

1:10:47 I remember in my country when 5g came out everyone whent mental because we only had regular 5g and not mmWave then later on it was shown that mmWave was trash unless you stood right underneath a antenna i think it is the same thing with 120 hertz you only notice it if you have the 60hertz next to it and anyway the cut out looks so bad I’m perfectly fine just having regular 5g

Sam is wrong. 90% of the people even today doesn't know what type of cable is in the box with iPhone and all of them don't care at all. Important thing is that is in the box and it is compatible to charge phone. Regular people doesn't use cable for data transfer, they don't transfer anything from phone ever. They don't care what type of connection is below if they received cable in the box. They will use that cable and that is it.

i cared about 120HZ before I got it. Now ill admit that apples pro motion makes the 120HZ less noticeable - at least on Mac. But since i got it and its not always at 120HZ it actually does not make much of a difference. And i was about to literally spend 3-5k to replace every screen i have with 120/144/200 Hz the other thing is what you already mentioned: Batter. Seeing early 15 Pro results with 120Hz and Always on... Holy moly. My expecation was that at some point we would get these new graphene/glass batteries that have up to 3x capacity. They are not here yet, but I still assumed to at some point get to a full moderately heavy use day (4hrs screen on time with video playback, 4 more with screen off, navigation and mobile data 5G). Buuut it seems battery is not a priority. Id trade 120hz, always on, 5G and Raytracing for getting to a full day so easy i wouldnt even think about my battery. All of them Id give up both lenses for more battery. But i really dont care about pictures. Id rather not have a camera bump, than "the best camera"

Upgrading every year diminishes the actually “jump” you feel when getting a new phone. Sam saying it only costs a little bit to get the new phone is not true. I get $659 trade in for my 14 Pro Max 256GB from Apple. New iPhone 15 Pro Max is $1,199. Plus new cases (no Apple Leather case), plus AppleCare+, plus taxes, we’re talking about a good chunk of change.

Just buy basic iPhone 15 or 15 plus, they have amazing battery Edit: I am a tech guy and I really couldn't care less about 60hz. I can't see the difference in hz anyway until i put 60 and 120 side by side and start scrolling some text or what ever. I just don't care, 15 plus is plenty for me. I am mad about usb 2.0 speeds of ports on basic phones and the same speed of cables on both basic and pro phones. That's what makes me a bit mad, I don't care about screen "speed"

The 120hz thingy , i think there is some valid arguments that one can make I think that higher refresh rate is something that you don't necessary notice right away, but if you used a phone that has it for a while it's really hard to return to normal hz, even if you are not a tech person and you don't' even know what 120hz means for example if a normal person bought iphone 14 pro and used it for a whole year then switched to iphone 15 i feel that this person will feel that it's slower but they wouldn't understand or can even point the reason for it being this way So the fact that people don't care is valid, but i would say they don't care because they just haven't used it . not because the feature itself doesn't matter

As someone who works in mobile sales and have literally seen someone downgrade from a pro 13 ....that's exactly what happens, they returned the 14 ( broke their 13 pro with no protection) and returned it a few days later because it "felt slow"

There's a differences between "don't care" and "doesn't know" most people Don't know why their phone feels faster or more responsive, they just know that it does

iPhone 14 pro “normal battery degradation”. My battery percentage went from 98% to 94% in literally 1 month.

i upgrade every year. i didn’t think i would love this phone as much as i do. i am in LOVE with the look and feel. it feels so different and the weight difference is really noticeable. i love it so much. i got the 15 pm in black. the black edges melts with the phone screen edge. it’s more immersive. everyone just get the phone! you will not regret it

Hey Jon and sam, apparently the best phone for battery life is the iPhone 15 plus.

I have the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the battery is way better on the max.

It seems like whatever future plans Apple has for its mobile products they want as much of their current generation phones to be able to take it on…. So I’m not surprised that the regular 15 has all or at the very minimum most of the 14 pro features.

It is BS. There are $200 android phones with 120hrz. If Apple wants to keep 120hrz a PRO Feature then I think Apple could and should do 90hrz on their $800 & $900 phones. Come on almost $1K for 2015 display tech refresh rate is shady
