Jon is the only KZreadr who hasn’t forgot the original issue with the notch and the fact the the dynamic island does not fix the issue, it distracts from the issue. Bravo Jon 👏👏. Having said that I personally never had an issue with the notch and think the dynamic island is great. Just wondering how many KZreadrs were actually really bothered about the notch when clearly, apart from Jon, they have all forgotten about it 🤔.

I feel like when you’re upgrading iPhones, you not only have to take into account what the newest iPhone brings, but what your getting cumulatively from the iPhone you have to the iPhone you’re getting now. For instance, I upgraded from an 11 Pro Max to a 14 Pro Max and yes I got the headline features such as the dynamic island and the 48MP camera, but I also got the landmark battery improvements and ProMotion from the iPhone 13 Pro Max and then the new design and MagSafe from the iPhone 12 Pro Max. So while the 12 or the 13 didn’t convince me to switch, by the time we got to the 14, with each of its predecessors contributing different features, I justified the upgrade. I think for most people there is a set number of features someone could have before they can justify an upgrade. Obviously both of yours are low but that’s understandable because you are tech reviewers and have to stay on the bleeding edge. Other people upgrade every 2 years because 2 product cycles is enough to win them over. And then you have people still on the iPhone X who are now *just* upgrading because the iPhone 14 brought the total cumulative new features to the magic number.

That's how it was for me too. I'm coming from an S10+ which is Samsung's version of an IPhone 11. It actually feels like an upgrade when you're coming from a phone 3+ years old. And I noticed that a lot of people moaning about a lack of upgrades are coming from the 12/13 series. They didn't need to upgrade and I think deep down they realised that after receiving their new phone. I think people coming from 2019 and older phones are the ones who should upgrade to the Iphone 14

They need to bring back the "S" naming. Because this is the 13S Pro Max.

I honestly never watch this podcast before but today was a great episode. Please guys make it like this all the time to make a smile on my face. I love that I love the ending. It was amazing. Love you, John.

Jon and Sam , you guys should look into ordering the iPhone 14 Pro from the Hong Kong Apple Store, then it would have physical dual SIM & eSIM support. This is the best version of the iPhone 14 Pro hands-down. 😊 Jon’s meltdown when Sam collapsed from laughing at him for buying the regular AirPods Pro was genuinely one the most epic things to happen in a Genius Bar episode! Thank you for giving me cramp from LMAO! 🤣

I’ve been getting the new phone for years. Since iPhone 4s. Your absolutely right about selling the old one. It’s only recently I haven’t a few times. Gave my dad my 11 pro max and kept my 13 pro max for a second camera

I went from 12 pro max to 14 pro max for the 120 fps and the Island 🏝-- Those 2 things worth it imo!

I think 12 pro’s to 14 pro’s is a fairly decent upgrade. 60hz to 120hz screen, the dynamic island, much better battery life (9+ hours more compared to 12 pro’s), better cameras, always on display, satellite sos, crash detection, newer chip, and other upgrades. 13 pro to 14 pro’s might not be as big of an upgrade

I agree that all the unboxing video's appeared to be reading the same scripts this year all of the them regurgitating the same talking point from the keynote. While I admit I did purchase a new 14pro in space black it wasn't due to any of the unboxing videos

I’m agree with Jon, I have a iPhone 12 Pro Max and I like the dynamic island but I don’t think worth to change my device. And I’m not agree about critizice the dynamic island in day light but not critizice the jelly scroll in the iPad mini, iPad that actually doesn’t cost the price for a tiny device.

Pretty glad I splurged for the 13 Pro last year. I have gotten plenty of mileage out of the camera system, Promotion & battery life. The 14 Pro appears to be a nice, but marginal improvement over it. I’m firmly holding out til USB-C.

Lol I think your math is WAY off on getting a new phone for 300 every year. 1200 for phone. Selling old one for 700 then include taxs and ebay fees. I agree on principle, but it's costing you alot more than 300.

First thing that comes to mind for me with the dynamic island is just how big and obnoxious looking it is, and how it sits lower on the screen than the notch did. They could have kept the notch and done the same thing and taken up less room on the screen.

I’ve found a huge convenience in the dynamic island also. And I drive for doordash. Since doordash is gps it lives in dynamic island. If I’m at the Home Screen or another app, it’s way easier to get back to the doordash app. I didn’t expect it would be so useful.

You guys are so entertaining 💯💯💯 .. but the purple is amazing for all of the reasons Jon listed: it’s purple without being so purple as to be not-pro .. I LOVE my 14 pro max much more than I should or expected!

I should’ve stayed with my iPhone 13 Pro Max .. this 14 pro max was not worth the upgrade. It feels like the same phone 🫠🫠

Dynamic Island will become the new Touch Bar after the honeymoon phase is over. Mark my words. Everyone loves it because it’s new, but think about it, how much does it truly change the way one uses their phone in a meaningful way? Once many realize this, I think it will fall off in popularity. There’s not much it does other than the things you’ve seen people do to show it off. One argument against that would be that developers will eventually fully utilize its potential, but think about it, that’s what was said about the Touch Bar as well, and look how that turned out. Also, I highly doubt the Dynamic Island will stick around when iPhone goes full screen with camera and sensors all under the screen. Definitely not trying to hate, just my opinion. Much love guys. I have a 14 Pro btw, so I’m not speaking from an outside perspective. Edit: spelling

The purple is different holding it in my hands, but it’s demonstrably nicer than the blue of my previous 12 Pro. It’s growing on me. 120 Hz, better LTE and 5G where I live (rural out here), dynamic island, taking cinematic 4K videos of my kids, running along side my kids playing with action mode; this iPhone is so much more fun and does more things than I can remember in an upgrade from previous years.

Another thing I hope I never have to use, since it’s so rural out here there are a lot of times where I hit dead zones. Satellite for me is definitely an insurance feature that is nice to have until it’s not.

AT&T gave me $800 trade in value for an iPhone 11. That is worth it.

Cell phone technology has hit maturity, there only so much you can put in a phone. Next year the only thing will be usb-c type charging maybe a new color. It’s funny how the new phones get hyped up, then are released and then everyone gets told don’t upgrade.

I have to say I got agree with Jon here. I think for those of us that have an iPhone 8 or an iPhone XR max, an upgrade is definitely worth it since our batteries are not the greatest. But with an iPhone 12 or 13 and move to an iPhone 14, I gotta say I’m with Jon here. Too much money to spend when you have a good phone! Sorry Sam.

I love’d Jon’s rant btw! I liked it years ago when REAL PRESS like CNET, Wall Street Journal, MSNBC, Engadget, PC Magazine were getting the invites and REAL PRESS doing the early reviews! They are all ramped up to 10 for the most part and almost thrown in our faces like, “look what I got early that you didn’t!” UGH!
