I remember when my sister introduced me to it saying it's a cool story. I told her it was bad and she said I couldn't understand quality writing... She grew up to be an engineer and I'm a novelist. Subsequently everyone pointed at its flaws and I'm vindicated.

@@phoenixikki2641 tbh, bad writing sometimes gets popular. Look at Fifty Shades, or at ASOIF. They're not that good. And they're highly profitable. So I can't blame you for noticing ons and not the others being flawed. And before anyone asks me why I think ASOIF is bad, think about why Martin can't finish the series. He wrote himself into a corner and needs to figure a new ending because he saw the one he gave the outline of disatisfied the audience when made into TV.

In my opinion the hyper realistic eyes actually make sense with spongebob. showing something realistic for a shot is a running gag in that show for instance the butterfly.

Apparently it was and still is a common inside joke to name episodes morbid or inappropriate things before they were finished.

Theres still one part of OG Squidwards Suicide the works for me. Spongebob booing being Squidwards breaking point. Not to say that Squidward is used to being booed by the other residents of Bikini Bottom, its more so the one person who is really always there for him despite him trying to push them away, has finally joined in on the torment. That last little hope of him doing something right with his dreams or hobby, dashed by the single crescendo of boos from the one person who would never ever do that to him

While more recent, and more of a meme than anything serious, the "Demon Reactor Core Squidward" is definitely another addition to the internet making SpongeBob darker

I recall seeing old cartoon conspiracy theories about the various characters representing the 7 deadly sins and that was actually my first introduction into the web's corruption of Spongebob. I've noticed Spongebob is most often the target of this with creepy animations and alike being made to this day. The red mist seems like the most obvious example but those old Spongebob in saw videos follow the same line of thinking in taking a loveable happy character like Spongebob and putting them in a scenario that directly challenges what the character stands for. It's unironically a great character study when you think about it because Spongebob both as a show and character is about as positive as you can get so seeing him in intense scenarios challenges our notions towards those emotions.

Squidwards suicide/red mist scared me so badly as a kid!! Vibing leafs SpongeBob retakes are really great pieces of internet horror. The transition into the iconic Squidward image was KINO! It gave me legit chills! I feel people writing creepypasta of spongebob and other childhood media is a form of safely exploring dark topics or even their own traumas.

Another great piece of lost Spongebob media is the uncensored Sailor Mouth. According to Tom Kenny, the actors decided to actually curse when recording their lines since it was easier than pretending to curse. There is supposedly a copy of the episode that cuts none of the swearing out, but it is stored in the Nickelodeon HQ and will never be released because of how inappropriate it would be

I’m honestly bummed “The Bikini Bottom Horror” never got finished. I actually got kinda invested in the story.

I believe that red mist is referring to blood. When witnessing sui---- by gunshot, a very common report is that they see a red mist around their head. I believe it's because the brain can't process the shock in the moment, but I'm not so sure about that part. I've always thought it was referring to this phenomena because people use the words "red mist" exactly when talking about it.

Squidward's S was so popular it got referenced in an actual SpongeBob episode. Not sure what number but it exists

I think some of these are inspired by the episodes that were sorta...off, in a way. Whether it be Gone, Spongehenge, or even the mentioned Fear of a Krabby Patty or Plankton Gets Served. There are quite a few mildly disturbing plots in the Spongebob series when you think about it.

What I love is that the remake of Red Mist doesn’t treat it as just “ooooh le funny creepypasta” but as an actual thing that happened in the SpongeBob Universe. SpongeBob and Patrick genuinely lost their friend

I see the red mist as just depression. It took over Squidward until it made him commit self-unaliving. It was starting to get to SpongeBob until Squidward says he's here again, ending with a sad happiness that when you're going through a tough time, sometimes a little support from friends can be life savers

Speaking of creepy Spongebob, there's the true story of Justine Johnson, a Michigan mother who was so high on drugs that she claims Spongebob literally turned to her and told her if she didn't kill her 3-year-old daughter he would kill her, and tragically she believed him.

ifyou want to make this into a series, i would highly recommend mlp. the mlp and creepy pasta fandom grew along side each other, and luna game was one of the first (if not the first) .exe style games to be created, predating even sonic.exe

Can we all just apreesh the work that went into making the og image's haunting eyes? Those eyes are really well rendered. They're lovely in a horrifing way. The way they seem to burn into the screen..

I never thought I'd be invested in Red Mist, but here we are. I honestly like this interpretation. That's talent, especially because I'm not a fan of the show to begin with. Bikini Bottom Horror sounds cool too.

I just read Bikini Bottom Horror the other day, and it was wild to see it come up

I still remember watching the Creepypasta of Squidward's Suicide (or Red Mist) with some scenes showing the audience's weird eyes and Squidward sitting on his bed looking forelorn and then shooting himself with the shotgun. That creepypasta video isn't here on KZread anymore when I wanted to rewatch it. And sadly I forgot the name of the uploader who narrated it.

i've seen enough corrupted/creepypasta's/ARG's to where i'm kinda used to seeing it. but my friend wasn't. so a while back, we were watching a meme compilation. this clip came up that was meant as satire on these 'arg/creepypasta's'. showing patrick being faceless, which was obviously a animation error, being a link to a faceless humans cult. playing the wyoming incident music, and showing obviously photoshopped images of people without faces. I immediatly started giggling because i reconized the satire in the clip, but my friend got freaked out by it and asked me to skip it. To be honest the wyoming incident music still creeps me a bit. but i got numbed by all the ARG stuff.

You did this before SuperEyepatchWolf could. Anyways, Red Mist fucked me up as a kid; nowadays I don't find it scary except the Retake. But for how influential Spongebob was to pop culture and the real world, especially children, the internet will alter the innocence of an absorbant and porous sponge and turn his sea follies twisted, like they did with more innocent IPs, specifically from comics to video games such as Garfield(from r/i'msorryjon to Lasagna Cat and it's finale Sex Survey Results which had what I consider one of the most WTF endings in a webseries ever created), and Sonic The Hedgehog(examples include the fanbase, Chris Chan in general, the first design of Movie Sonic, literally Sanic, and creepypasta like .exe). We have Spongebob but vulgar with many KZread Poops of the show made to this very day, and need I say more about Squidward's unsure face CG model where he stabbed Patrick to death, realistic Patrick, fan theories or Spengleblab.

I remember stumbling on that Garfield Sub reddit I was expecting memes like the one where John says certified Hood Classic but what I instead got was John receiving action on a wall but when you pay close attention you see Garfield controlling her as you see her spine and arm are being morphed in a grotesque way and you see Garfield with his eyes staring at you with tentacles coming out of his head

I still love how swuidwards slipnslide(yeah censorship) got referenced in actual SpongeBob

I always love this idea. Spongebob was very close to my heart back then when i was a kid, and i remembered being so scared of Red Mist that i can't even sleep thinking about it 😂. I'm more grown now and i'm just so interested by this idea of corrupting something that you used to love back then as a kid and turn it into some sort of a nightmare. It's just cool!

Personally as long as it’s kept from a very young demographic and it’s not too too poorly made with a serious topic involved, having horror and kids media combined isn’t necessarily scary at all but rather kinda cool as long if used right. Like a different AU with a different story rather then butterflies and rainbows. Like Vibingleaf Squidward which was executed well and really good. Overall really good. Conspiracy theories involving horror however is just goofy. It’s usually “he’s in a coma” or “based on a real crime”. I mean even if SpongeBob cast is based on 7 deadly sins who cares? How does that ruin your childhood it’s not even scary or dark??????

Something odd I've noticed about these Creepypasta callbacks is that, despite them being very simple and somewhat childish stories, a lot of people don't seem to "get" them. In both Bart's and Squidward's stories the hyperrealistic stuff is just there to set the mood, but even back when people thought these stories were good, everyone (from both their haters and copycats) acts like that's their main source of horror. Like even the narrators of the stories aren't scared of that, they're merely confused by it. But I guess it makes sense, as silly as the concept of "hyperrealism" is, it's more memorable for a 12yo that has never heard that word before than their dumb twists of "The Simpsons have predicted the Apocalypse!" and "A sick psycho pėdō works at Nick and gloats about his horrible crimes by putting them on a Spongebob episode!"

I remember reading Squidward’s Suicide, I was only 14 and I felt my innocence died after finishing it, so after reading it I watched classic SpongeBob episodes to get that story out of my head, I haven’t read it since

I think what helped in this corruption was the decay in quality of the show itself. Grosser moments, idiotic plots, unlikeable characters, boring pacing... SpongeBob kinda dug its own grave when it decided to go on for too long.

The internet corrupted SpongeBob by making it out to be a psycho-drama about a short-tempered block of cheese

I remember seeing this one series of short Spongebob horror animations on Instagram once that i'm not sure how to find anymore cause i don't even remember what they were called, but essentially i think the premise what that some... Thing, some phenomenon, was causing the Bikini bottom residents to become horribly mutated monsters. Sort of like Bikini bottom horror but i think it was it's own thing entirely since searching Bikini bottom horror doesn't seem to bring up what i'm thinking of. It used a combination of repurposed animations from the show and taking screenshots from the show and animating those to fit the narrative, the newly animated bits specifically i remember having this really uncanny and bizarre movement to them that's difficult to describe. I specifically remember two moments from this animation. One that reuses an animation of Spongebob seeing a full moon and becoming a werewolf originally used as a sort of halloween bumper for Nick (similar things were done with the other shows airing at the time) And another where Krabs tries to fight one of these creatures off before a screenshot of Mr. Krabs having seen the aftermath of Spongebob dismantling the Krusty krab and literally falling to pieces, only edited to be a lot more gory and bloody, and at night. I think there were also scenes where Sandy tried to defend herself but was ultimately killed as well, and a scene where various background fish are morphed into creatures as well, possibly using scenes from that one episode where Patrick makes his own song that causes the town to become upset. In the latter case, i think there was also a specific shot of a fish's head exploding from Patrick's music, repurposed here by adding a blood effect. If anyone knows what i'm talking about, feel free to comment what it is, if it's impossible to find for any reason then i suppose feel free to make this an official lost media case or whatever. Edit: Actually i just saw a screenshot of Mr. Krabs sobbing on the floor but similarly fallen to pieces like in the strike episode, i don't remember what episode it's from but i think that actually THAT image was the image used to depict Mr. Krabs ripped to bloody pieces, and his tears were recolored to look like blood.

You REALLY should cover "strange hill high". Its a very not well know show which, I feel plays a small part into lost media. I cannot ever find secret behind the scenes stuff for that show. Not to mention, the show is actually slightly scary in imagery. Even tho its a kids show. It mixes puppet figures with some imagery that still make me feel off today.
