Something to add to this video (if it matters), there's an episode of spongebob towards the later seasons that I remember made my head spin where, at the end of the episode Plankton gets the krabby patty secret formula and exclaims "I always win!" and spongebob corrects him "No plankton you always lose." Then Plankton reveals he's not Plankton, but Mr Krabs. And Plankton was Mr Krabs in a robotic suit, but it wasn't the robot krabs, it looked and sounded exactly like Mr Krabs. Then Squidward reveals he was like, Patrick or something and the rest of the episode everyone tearing off their skin and revealing that they're other characters, including Sandy and even a background character/minor character at one point. Strange part is, we never learn who or what is underneath all of the fake skins. The episode ends with them all tearing off skins over and over and just, zooms and fades out while it continues. That's what confused me as a kid. Who was truly under all of the skins? Was Spongebob even in the episode? And if that was possible, who's to say spongebob is really in any of the episodes? Who's to say any of these characters are actually people in Bikini Bottom? Who's to say anyone in Bikini Bottom is a person with a life and family? How does anybody in this world ever start a life knowing that anyone could be anyone else underneath infinite layers of skins and voices?

I don’t think it’s even a shitpost anymore, I think the creator was genuinely serious about creating a 1 hour theory for a kids cartoon (which doesn’t even matter since it’s a cartoon and it can defy logic) and taking the time to have an entire script and multiple clips to show the “disturbing” truth and theory of SpongeBob, in other words, wayyyy too much free time on their hands

@@toastice2465 IIRC, Krabs constantly scams Spongebob out of money, I don't think he has enough money for full body suits. Patrick is not even shown to have a job, that I know of anyways, but he has enough money for a gorilla suit. Plankton is actually pretty intelligent, being a business owner, and a mad scientist. If making suits of people is common, I'm sure he could have done it. He just sucks at cooking. Honestly, there are a lot of weird jokes in Spongebob and other cartoons that are repeated often, Skin Theory is nothing more than a complete overthinking of a dumb repeating visual gag in a cartoon kid's show. It's not a very solid theory, the whole thing comes apart once you think about it for more than 1 millisecond.

True, but the segments of the show with Patchy The Pirate in it are clearly set on land and in the world and life that we live it. As we we see celebrities like Pink in the episode that I forgot the name of (sorry bout that). In Said episode the real actors are playing it and it confirms it is in our life that we live in. Yes, as much as patchy is just as much of a loveable goofball as the rest of the cast. We never see him in bikini bottom, but either above it or on the island shown on the title screen

there are literally two neptunes and a Poseidon. Series Neptune who is a god, same as poseidon, and 1st Movie Neptune who is a king. This is due to the movie holding rights that Nick didn't have for a long time, but those are two separated characters with two different families and roles and hinted to have some kind of feud that should be shown soon. But yeah, they pretty much are gods in bikini bottom

This theory is fascinating on so many levels! I think the nuclear radiation theory is very possible considering Bikini Bottom is literally a reference to Bikini Bottom Atoll which is known for testing nuclear warheads. Also Goo Lagoon could technically exist as there are undersea lakes/oceans, but nothing that enters would survive (only extremophiles are the exceptions) because of the immense pressure and high salinity levels. My mind was blown looking back at all my favorite episodes and just realizing the ridiculous number of costume related shenanigans that I just totally ignored. Thank you for discussing this! I think one possible reason to support the humans in costume theory is because Hillenburg loved the ocean and we've been doing a poor job of keeping it clean. Having people pretend to be fish would make perfect sense if alluding to a future where all marine life is dead either from nuclear bombs, pollution, or climate change. The level of satire for something so apocalyptic is stunning.

Thats actually a sub theory in itself lol that due to nuclear bombs pollution etc humanity would wear fish suits to live underwater as like above ground like having the suits gives humans the ability to breath under water and create gravity. That would make sense to counter some of his points cause steven hillenburg created the show to hopefully make people have respect for the waters and not have it filled with garbage. Cause if the waters is filled with garbage and the ground is unlivable living underwater isn't a option for humanity's survival

I do think some of the examples are convincing, especially those with no plot/comedic value, but... 1. A lot of the examples are just personification and exaggeration, which are two very common themes in animation. 2. Salmon is pink. Larry and Mr. Krabs is also red. Children are just more familiar with their cooked counterparts than their live counterparts. 3. Mr. Krabs, like actual crabs, has an exoskeleton that molts... that's not really a skin suit.

Can we talk about the fact that Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy are the same height as the fish (and a squirrel)?

I came back two years later to see that this video was successful. “Sweet sweet victory” see yall in two more years ✌️

An interesting thing that I’d like to add is if this were to be thought of alongside the nuclear radiation theory, it should be noted that skin peeling off and completely falling off the bone is actually a symptom of severe radiation poisoning. In that sense, the normalization of skin suits could have just been the result of mass skin graftings, and the suits themselves ripping could either be due to said radiation or a failure to replace the damaged skin. It would also explain the multi-layered skin suits, as the rate of failure for the graftings would evidently be high. There are some inconsistencies with this idea of mine, such as the fact that such an extreme level of radiation would logically just outright kill everyone who was affected, and that it doesn’t explain some of the more obscure instances like the gorilla in the Patrick suit. However, I thought this was a neat concept, so I thought I should share it.

I'm honestly surprised the episode "Someone's in the Kitchen with Sandy" from season 7 wasn't mentioned. Plankton literally walked around in Sandy's skin when she takes it off to shower. It was like at least half the episode. It was hardly questioned if I remember correctly.

Ik he talked specifically about seasons 1-4 but in season 5 episode 6 “spy buddies” mr. krabs and plankton switch bodies for a bet. Also the final minute or so of the episode they show Patrick in a squidward suit, sandy suit, and spongebob suit also squid gets his face ripped off and spongebob wears a Patrick suit under his spongebob suit with another spongebob suit underneath. As if that’s already not confusing enough the last scene shows two identical Patricks at the same time...
