The Incredible Story of Ice Cube | Big Boy Off Air (Interview)

Ойын-сауық

Ice Cube sits down for an exclusive Off-Air interview with Big Boy and offers and inside look at his career, growing up in Los Angeles, and forming N.W.A with Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, MC Ren, and DJ Yella. Ice Cube discusses the early years of gangster rap, leaving NWA to start a solo career, and the story behind iconic songs like “Straight Outta Compton”, “Express Yourself”, “Eazy Duz It”, “No Vaseline”, “Boyz in the Hood”, “Westside Slaughterhouse”, and more. He also speaks on his filmography, which includes Friday, The Players Club, First Sunday, Barbershop, Are We There Yet, and 21 Jump Street. The west-coast rapper recalls receiving a letter from the FBI, getting chased by police after a concert, and working with actors like Chris Tucker, Kat Williams and Bernie Mac. Plus, Ice Cube comments on the west coast vs east coast hip-hop beef and diss-tracks like “100 Miles and Runnin;”. Watch the full interview exclusively on BigBoyTV.

I bought Cube's Amerikkka's Most Wanted while on lunch break at work. I tried to zoom through it to see how many good songs was on it. I ended up listening to the whole damn CD in my car & I was getting pissed because there were no songs worth skipping & it made me late getting back to work.

I am a white guy and when I think about black people who changed any and all stereotypes, who revolutionized black culture more than anyone and blended that cultrue with the world, I think about Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson, Ice Cube, Will Smith, the Rock, Kanye West, and maybe Jay Z. Thats it theres not many on it.

When I watch Ice Cube and listen to him speak, it brings back insurmountable joy and memories of my childhood. I remember when my cousin first introduced us to NWA, he got the tape off somebody selling tapes out the trunk ... I was heavy into rap as I had an older brother & sister that had their favs... this music helped shape us... not just gangster rap but hip hop period. Some hits still hitting ya feel me?! Ice Cube is a living legend...he is one of the greats that showed us how you can achieve so much more than sitting on your porch/car hanging out on the corner. So proud of ALL of his achievements. Dope man is the song that brought me to Hip-hop. I was a skateboard kid, Punk music, Venice beach hanging with Suicidal Tendencies crew skateboarding and Rock & Roll. Early Rap from New York was cool and we liked to watch the older kids who were “Pop-Lockers” dance to it but I was too young to understand all the references and words I guess. Then dope man came out and we discovered N.W.A. Born & raised in Long Beach was living in Compton at the time and they talked like us about stuff that we were living. My crew traded in the skateboards for the cardboard lol. Then came the head & back spins, markers and rhyme books. To this day Cube is my Favorite MC. Even back then I knew he was doing a lot of the writing him and MC Ren. Had a 15 year music career now I'm a screen writer / Producer. Cube has always inspired me.

It took me a while to truly realise how integral Cube was to the rap games evolution, I grew up mainly on Dre and Snoop and had barely heard any solo IceCube till a few years later, i kind of assumed he was "also there" but not massively relevant by comparison, Gangsta Rap did not get mainstream UK attention so not the easiest to keep up to date as a kid. But now years later so much he's been involved in is like a 5* moment in the genre that i fully understand how much of an icon he really is.

If There Is A Person That Should Be Honored And Notarized WHILE STILL ACTIVE It Is ICE CUBE FOR ALL OF THE BARRIERS HE'S BROKEN ALONE IS ENOUGH Along With His Work, Creativity And Genius Is So Top Tier. I Believe Everyone Recognizes His Exceptional Body Of Work But Then Again I Don't Quite Think Everyone REALLY Does If We Just Sat Back Took A Deep Breath And Analyze What Cube Has Done Since The '80s It Puts Me In Awe And EVERYTHING Is A Hit Or A Classic THANK YOU CUBE!! 💯🖤🙏🏿👏🏿🖤

Now THIS is an interview. Cube has ALWAYS been my #1 rapper/lyricist. People today don't get to enjoy growing up with their favorites artist and having to go to record stores and get that cassette or CD in their hands, look at the cover artwork, read the credits on the inside cover and all that that made you appreciate the music.

I find it funny that Dre met Snoop because Warren G was his step brother and Snoop was Warren G's friend, and met Cube because Sir Jinx was his cousin and Cube was Sir Jinx's friend. And Dre didn't wanna hear Cube or Snoop rap until something happened to make him change his mind. Dre didn't really have to look far up until Eminem came around

Dope Interview 🎙 Ice Cube Is a True Legend

  • @tomking7080

The crazy thing is the way I was introduced to hip hop was through my dad. My dad was born in Poland in 1951 and we came to the United States in March of 1983. My dad took me to downtown Phoenix because they were having a breakdancing contest there at the Phoenix Civic Plaza and this was in 1985 when I was 8 years old. I still have pictures from this day which is RAD!!!Actually I was 7 because my birthday is November 27,1977. My dad’s favorite band is the Beatles but he loved Rappers Delight and “Rapture “ by BLONDIE which was actually the first song to feature a rap to go to number one in 1980 if I remember correctly. At this breakdancing contest it was my first real introduction to hip hop. In 1988 just before I turned 11 years old my cousins who were 15 and 17 at the time introduced me to NWA and the first Eazy E album which came out 5 days before my birthday in November of 1988 and I was hooked. I showed my friends the tapes of these amazing albums, yes the tapes. Then when Cube left the group and when Dre left I copped The Chronic when it came out and The first DOC album which was amazing along with the Fila Fresh Crew. The DOC is one of my favorite writers and he contributed a great deal to the NWA and The Chronic and helped Snoop a lot with Doggystyle. I graduated high school in 1995 and during my high school years from 1991-1995 so many unbelievable albums from so many artists,West Coast and East Coast, came out. Biggie is my favorite rapper ever followed by Cube and then PAC. During my high school years the amount of unbelievably amazing albums that came out was insane. A Tribe Called Quest had “The Low End Theory “,”Breaking Atoms” by Main Source which featured a 17 year old Nas for the first time which brought us Illmatic shortly after. “Original Gangster” by Ice T, Death Certificate by Cube,” The Rulers Back” by Slick Rick,De La Soul is Dead ,Ghetto Boys “We can’t be stopped “with the famous album cover,”Scarface is Back”by Scarface,Comptons Most Wanted,”2Pacalypse Now “by PAC which has one of my favorite PAC tracks on it called “Violent”. It’s amazing and if you have never heard it I highly recommend you do since it’s PAC’s first albums. If you have a system in your car that track hits so hard!!!”Quick is the name” by DJ Quick,Leaders of the New School “A Future without a past “. For the younger generation who doesn’t know about Leaders of the New School it’s Busta Rhymes group. Cypress Hills first self titled album,Nice and Smooth “Not a damn thing has changed”,NWA “Niggaz4life”,3rd Bass “ Derelicts of dialect”, Naughty by nature self titled album,The first Master P album called “Get away clean”,Beastie Boys,Public Enemy,EPMD, The Chronic,Ready to Die. There are just way too many albums to list but this was the golden era of hip hop. I would also say that the 90’s was a golden era for music of every genre. From Rock/Grunge/Metal we had Nirvana,Soundgarden,Pearl Jam,Alice in Chains,STP,Tool,Korn,Metallica,Megadeth, Slayer,Slipknot, and so many other amazing bands. Pop music was on fire with Backstreet Boys,NSYNC,98 degrees, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Pink,Maya,Ricky Martin, Mariah Carey, Alanis Morissette, Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez, Spice Girls, TLC, Destiny’s Child, Aaliyah, Faith Evans, no doubt, boys to men, en vogue, counting Crows, Shania Twain, New Kids on the Block, Shakira, leanne Rimes and that list goes on and on. The 90’s was such a amazing era. It was the beginning of the age of technology.

The first time I heard NWA in Vallejo California, 1989, home of E40 and Mac Dre … A Mexican from L.A who was way older than me pulled my to the side, all black Chevy Camero, played Dope Man by Ice Cube- I was in total shock. Who in the fuck said they can rap like that? Cussing and stuff. I was 9 years old. Without Dr. Dre you have no Ice Cube. Without Ice Cube you have no NWA, Trap Music, Gangster Rap, Drill NOTHING … Without Ice Cube you don’t have Hip Hop as it is today. Cube is the greatest lyrical on any coast any era. Ice T and Too Short are the Fathers …. Cube is the wicked Son

Great interview. Someone says Big Boi let's artists talk. True, but a few times he cut Cube off and I wish I knew what he wanted to say. You want to get everything recorded that a guest has to offer. It's best to let a person complete a sentence. Let that thought complete or it's lost forever.

Ice Cube and Eazy E made my teen years. NWA was on repeat for a long long time and my friends and I used to rap this stuff at school together. I also have deep respect for Cube. If he wasn't there we would never have had NWA. Those guys were so talented but the fact that Dre and Cube ended up finding the talent in others too, and naturing that....that is what is still needed in communities today. You don't need inclusion nonsense when you have strong, knowledgeable and capable Legends that are giving back the way that they did. We just need more of them.
