That fight scene was great. I remember it from highschool. Paris' pretty boy armor and Menelaos going savage is great. And then the description of him stumbeling as suddenly the weight is gone. Really vivid.

So I'm aware that they used scented oils both as skincare products and fragrance back then (I suppose we kinda still do), but the way Aphrodite describes Paris to Helen as basically "all lubed up and ready to go" is very funny to me in how tone-deaf it seems, given the situation they're in. Hi George, longtime fan and loving this reading. I noticed there were great captions on the first book, only auto generated caption on the second, and this one doesn't have any. Are you planning to add full captions for the rest of this series? I'm not personally hard of hearing but with my attention issues good captions really help keep me from getting distracted.

@Super Bunnyhop Never knew for the longest time how vocal feminization worked, makes me think about the idea of men playing women's roles in Shakespeare's day. It's something that often gets a chuckle when you hear about it for the first time, but I wonder if they might have used a similar technique. Who knows, maybe they were actually convincing

@@JackRackam You gotta learn which muscles deep in there need to be stretched to get rid of fry/weight/bass noises, and then how to hold them down for minutes at a time. It really helped for me to position the mic so I could stretch my neck out as far as possible and talk to the ceiling, but I doubt that's a trick that could be used in any other situation

How did George come to his choice of pronunciation of "The Iliad" as well as character names and stuff? I know I've always heard it more like "il-lee-id" in high school but have no idea how academia linguistically approaches ancient Greek names. Plus I'm from New Orleans which has a storied tradition of butchering Greek street names like Calliope and Telemachus.

His pronunciations are surprisingly good (coming from a native Greek). By the way im very curious as to how you pronounce Telemachus.

It could have also been used to ferry champions back n forth / demonstrate status. I feel like people will look back and declare "men didn't actually spend months at a time ankle deep in mud in trenches, the trenches were just a launching platform from which to raid" Just because it seems silly, doesn't mean it wasn't so. Many things we do today are downright silly and unexplainable.
