The Hyundai N Vision 74 Concept has a HYDROGEN ENGINE!

During the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este 2023 I have filmed the Hyundai N Vision 74 Concept car.
One of the coolest concept cars in recent history could be making its way to production. The Hyundai N Vision 74 concept was an instant hit when it was revealed last year as part of the automaker's "N Day" event held in South Korea. A report today by a Korean news outlet claims Hyundai has greenlit the concept for production.
Money Today published the report on its website but didn't cite any specific sources, which obviously leads some (including us) to question the veracity of the information. However, considering the critical acclaim from enthusiasts and media alike that the N Vision 74 received, we're not completely surprised that a mass-production model is on the table. It would almost certainly look a lot like the concept, which featured a wedge-like body that was inspired by the 1974 Hyundai Pony Coupe concept that was penned by famed designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. But the bigger question is what type of powertrain it might use.
The N Vision 74 concept debuted as a "rolling lab" test bed for Hyundai's N performance division to explore future powertrain development. The 670-hp hybrid EV is powered by two rear-mounted electric motors that act as a "virtual differential." Those motors are fed by a 62.4-kWh battery pack, which itself is fed by a hydrogen fuel-cell that acts as an on-board generator for extended range. We were even lucky enough to drive one of the concept cars, where we got to feel its relentless acceleration and impressive agility.
At the end of that drive, we came away not expecting Hyundai to build a production version of the N Vision 74, at least not one that uses the brand's E-GMP architecture that underpins the new Ioniq 6 sedan as well as other electric Kia and Genesis models. We spoke to Albert Biermann about it at the time, and the former Hyundai-Kia R&D boss turned executive technical advisor told Car and Driver, "It is hard for me to see us doing it; at this moment we don't need such a car."
On the other hand, Till Wartenberg-Hyundai's vice president of N brand management and motorsport-more recently made comments to The Autopian expressing his hope to put the retro-styled two-seater into production. Obviously, Wartenberg's words shouldn't be misconstrued as a confirmation.

This car is seriously amazing. Its cyberpunk. Hyundai was the nerd in class, but got older and glowed up like crazzyyy.

지금까지 현대기아가 숱하게 베껴온 그 어떤 디자인보다 이 포니 디자인이 가장 독창적이고 현대스럽고 멋있음.. 아이오닉5 처음 나왔을때 디자인보고 진짜 감탄했는데 이 아이덴티티를 살려가면 좋겠음.

@@max_7344the engine probably won't be hydrogen since it is hella expensive to manufacture so they'll probably take a v8 or v6 engine from the genesis

@@SlikDewdIt doesn't have a hydrogen piston engine. It uses hydrogen fuel cell technology to charge a battery to power two 235kW motors. Although you have the option to charge the battery directly since hydrogen stations are very uncommon right now

Really wish these companies would populate the market with cool cars. Why do we have to restore 25+ year old cars just to have a cool car!? This one is sick. I’d suddenly become a fan of Hyundai.

Taking all the cool sport parts out it will end up looking like the classics1980's Japanese retro cars that lots of car enthusiastics love if you ever watch Initial D or like drifting in mountains plus if you are American I understand but Europeans, Asians and Latinos love this type of cars since we live surrounded by mountains and drifting is the only option if you want to go fast

What I love about Hyundai/Kia is how experimental their designs have gotten in recent years. The N vision 74 is their newest masterpiece, hope to see more cool stuff from them!!

@smithgeorge6858 my last car was a subaru wrx sti. I'm driving a 75k brand new truck. Probably going to pick up a manual toyota supra next. I haven't driven a cheap car in a long time. So your a bit off there. Never stepped foot in a Hyuandi. Never will. They ripped off the honda logo, the honda name, almost every car they make is a rip off of another popular brands top selling vehicles. That is why I don't like them. I don't like the way they do business. Seems scummy. I don't care if they make the best cars in the world.

That would take years and Hyundai's marketing is a mess. They don't have a single sport coup anymore, just their big ass Elantra N that they're trying to market against the Type-R, GTI, WRX, etc. with "comparisons" that treat buyers like they're morons.

@@Lemonshamp00 Might be a great ride, it doesn't really appeal to me but same goes for most of them these days so that doesn't mean much. It is sad to see the more hardcore platforms falling off as they focus more on overly complicated electric/hybrids. I'd love to see Honda come out with an S2000-style launch an ICE swan song but considering it sounds like the Prelude will be an EV/Hybrid I highly doubt it.

Unreal, looks like a mix between the delorean and a lancer, some mercedes gull-wing and sls elements to it aswell. Lovely looking machine.
The fact that they are releasing this in such limited quantities actually detracts from the cool factor. Seeing these along with the Cyber truck all over, would make it feel like we are living in a Cyberpunk future.
Imagine they had released this in the 90s, hype would be crazy for this

fyi, a lot of the current best designers and engineers in the auto industry have recently moved to Hyundai. The N vision 74 design was made by a BMW lead designer, and the car was engineered by toyota/honda/audi group engineers. Hyundai is going to be leading the car industry very soon, and market knows it, and the industry knows it.
