The Hunt For The Perfect Cycling Destination | Girona, The Costa Brava
Спорт
Whenever we go for a ride, we’re looking for something special. Something that stirs the senses, and makes us remember everything we love about cycling. On some rides, you might get one transcendental moment. On some, none. But in some special parts of the world, the stars align and you are hit with one magical experience after the next.
Imagine a place with switchbacks coiling up mountainsides; with quiet, smooth roads through a historic, hospitable landscape. A place with coastal views, with cobbles and climbs; a place where the pros choose to live and train. Around you, a rich culture, a slower-paced lifestyle and long days of golden sun, with nothing to do but ride. At night, world-class food and wine.
Sound too good to be true? Maybe.
Huge thanks for making this video happen:

I rode Rocacorba 3 weeks ago-probably nearly the slowest man up there-mind you I will be 75 this year and broke my hip 22 months ago……..enjoyed it but it’s a tough climb-especially for someone who lives in Cambridgeshire……..
Going to ride in Costa Brava this weekend, weather permitting (which it should). Have ridden in Vic but first time on the coast (Figueres to Llança to Port de la Selva to Roses and Figueres) and looking forward to the scenic vistas overlooking the sea. I have only been riding in Spain 4 months but can attest that Spanish drivers of all motorised vehicles in Catalunya are, indeed, very respectful and cautious of cyclists and I've yet to be subjected to road rage or dangerous behaviour on my bike. Truly an amazing place to cycle and live.
Great vid Dave! Next family holiday for sure.
I live just a little further south of the Costa Brava good cycling roads and cycling culture too
God bless you for letting my cycling love get to enjoy your excellent video of "Heaven". I most likely never get to do but you make it real. Thanks .... Tom Byrne
Fantástico, un bonito reportaje. Congratulations.

He's such a great presenter, a real character. Took me a while to warm to him at first, but he's great. Oh, and the region of the Costa Brava looks amazing.

Thanks for the kind words.
Finally a keen cyclist with a bike that anyone with regular paychecks can afford!
You guys should consider an update - I’m here now and there’s been a considerable backlash against overcrowding and rich cycle tourism by the locals. So many people have flocked here they’ve displaced Catalonians. Worth another look.

Nice video! What time of year is this? There is a surprising lack of vehicles on the roads!
Thank you, very nice video. Would it be possible for you to share some strava/gpx rides on the area?

I didn't use a computer on the bike so don't have any, sorry. But honestly you can't go wrong what ever direction you head in. Plus there are a heap of group rides everyday.
We live in this area sorry to many bikes !!
go away Covid -- I need some Girona time
Great video! I'm trying to figure what road is that around 5:36 ? It seems to be near Cadaqués ?
@skunkbird
4 жыл бұрын
Yep, it's the road out to Far de cap de Creus to the North East of Cadaqués. You're not actually allowed to ride on some of the little roads in the Tudela Park, so just pay attention to the signage when there.

Come inland a little, to the west 40mins, and it's better! Less traffic. More variety, spectacular climbs. #osonaunfiltered

Really good , thanks , I enjoy cycling and skiing , just retired , divorced and age 58 , looks like a great place to live , I’ll drive over and get an air bnb for 3 months . Would you recommend a place in the centre or on the outskirts ? Liked and subbed.

The attraction of Girona is largely down to having a fantastic city with everything you need off the bike because the traffic around there is terrible. You really need to get into the hills and even there the drivers are nutters. There are many corners of Spain that are overlooked due to the lack of infrastructure. I'm in Lleida province where the roads are much much quieter and neighbouring Huesca is not dissimilar to Provence during springtime. I personally love the Mataraña with it's backdrop of Els Ports, athough I would argue that Castellon province is hard to beat for variety and is a climbers dream if you have the stamina to explore inland.

There seems to be so many good places. We will have to at some point find the budget to visit more of Spain. I used to live in the Basque region. I loved it there too.

Where in Spain do you recommend which has the sea and mountains and good bike riding?
@TamzinVokes
2 жыл бұрын
@@gadgetgrader People seem to enjoy the Costa Blanca as it caters for cyclists, check out Citrus Cycling if you are interested. I personally prefer being up the coast as it's quieter. Check out around Alcossebre. You can see from Strava heat maps there are some interesting climbs but flat along the coast. This zone you are better opting for self catering accommodation as it's less well known for cyclists but is a cheap option.

Girona is overrated IMO. Which is great cos the place is teeming with wannabes and IG influencers leaving the rest of Spain nice and quiet

Emigrant (synonym for expat) and immigrant are both true at the same time. Which one you use depends on the context and the perspective you want to look at it from.
