The Gospel of Luke & Acts: Overview | Whiteboard Bible Study

The Gospel of Luke and the book of Acts are a two-part work, and an incredibly helpful way to see how early Christians told the story of Christianity's origins. In this video, we take a look at how these two books relate to each other to tell one complete story.

    Thank you for sharing your knowledge and understanding. I like your style of being both precise and interestingly fun. Keep up the great work! You have helped me to see that Acts is a continuation or a Part 2 of the Book of Luke where a gentile doctor shows us Jesus’ humanity as Son of Man who laid down His own life for us. Follow that with Acts, He gives us Holy Spirit power to now share Him with the rest of the world. The more I learn of Him, the more I want to know Him. May he bless you greatly.

    Jeffrey, enjoyed your well researched, organized chalkboard presentation. Pleasure to see young folks not only romancing His Word, but hearing the call to disciple. In love, would add two comments. It appears that Luke was a Hellenized Jewish physician. beyond surface knowledge Luke was intimately familiar with the temple Luke 1:8-20. Luke is credited with writing more pages of the newer testaments than any other author, Paul in Romans. 3:2 proclaims the only advantage of the Judeans over the Gentiles, they were entrusted with the Word. Many born-again Judeans had Hellenized names such as Aristarchus, Justus, Marcus. If Luke was a Gentile Paul would have stated it; Not a salvation issue but one of many popular notions. Beyond common sense, there is growing evidence that the Gospels were written in Hebrew, example, besides the 14 surviving copies of Matthew in Hebrew which expresses the Hebrew idioms and poetry that is absent in the Greek to Latin English, recently the Vatican after much request allowed the release of three microfilmed pages that were discovered by researchers in the Vatican vault, of Luke and one page of John, both in the original Hebrew. Most of the Hebrew as well as Aramaic documents were burned after the completion of the Latin Vulgate; recorded evidence of said up until the 17th century. That being said, the four Gospels are written in the four levels of Hebrew understanding. Building up from the oldest. Mark: Pashat (Simple). Matthew: Remez (Hint) & Pashat. Luke: Deash (Search) & Remez-Pashat. John: Sod (Hidden) & Deash-Remez-Pashat. Jeffrey, blessings to you and yours.

    Good question, and I'm not entirely sure about the answer. The church has viewed the gospels as a four-part set for a long time-so it makes sense that they'd keep them together. Why they didn't just put Luke last and follow that with Acts, I'm unsure. =)

    The Old Testament and the New Testament are not separate books. They are very connected. The Bible is written for everyone! The Old Testament is not only for the Jews.

  • @OverviewBible

    @OverviewBible

    Nowhere does this video deny a connection between the Old and New Testaments. (That would be very silly, as the New Testament authors reference Old Testament content throughout.) However, the Old and New Testaments are collections (and in some cases, collections of collections) of independent documents. Treating the Bible as a single, unified work not only ignores its rich history, but often clouds modern readers' abilities to understand the original audience's situations.

    Same author, yeah, right. Only in the end of Luke it is told that Jesus rose to heaven ON THE SAME DAY of his resurrection, while Acts explains at the beginnning that Jesus was 40 days with the disciples before going to heaven. The Paul described at Actys has very little to do with what Paul wrote about his ideas.

  • @galacticnovastudios

    Nowhere in Luke does it say he ascended on the same day he rose. And no Paul is not all that different in his writings an acts. No more different then how you would come off in your writings and if your friends wrote about you.

    In Acts chapter 5 Rabban Gamaliel said if the Jesus movement known as Netzarim in Hebrew came to nothing then it was not from Heaven. They officially ended in 135 ce and disappeared from history in 333 ce. I've learned this from credible sources so very difficult to refute. Doesn't this seem to suggest Jesus was a false leader like the others mentioned in that passage whose movements came to naught?

  • @OverviewBible

    @OverviewBible

    "Credible sources" tell you that Gamaliel was referring to one ill-documented (at best) sect, when the text of Acts plainly states Gamaliel was referring to the movement led by Peter and the other apostles?

    If you are a Bible historian then you should know, you can't say , the Old Testament is about God and the " Jewish " people. That would be incorrect. If " ish " means man Jewish is simply Jew Man. The word Jew is a contraction of the word Judah. Much confusion as happen because of this terminology and has lead to a wrong interpretation of scripture. I hear a lot of Bible prophecy Preachers and Teachers make the mistake of calling all Israelite Jews. That leads to other problem. For now they have to say, " all Jews living in the world today make up the 12 Tribes." A well informed Jew would never agree with that conclusion. True, the Old Testament is about God and all Israelite. All Israelite are 12 Tribes, but, The Jews ( Judah) is, but, one of those Tribes.

  • @OverviewBible

    @OverviewBible

    3 жыл бұрын

    Judah was indeed one tribe of twelve (well, one of 14, depending on how you slice it). However, "Jews" does not exclusively refer to those who traced their lineage from Judah-rather, it had more to do with the people (tribes) from the kingdom of Judah. The apostle Paul is a good example: he traced his lineage from the tribe of Benjamin, which was distinct from the tribe of Judah, but remained subject to the kingdom of Judah after Jeroboam's rebellion (1 Kings 12:21-24; Philippians 3:4-5). Yet he also considers other people of Israelite descent "fellow Jews" (Romans 16:7, 11, 21; 2 Corinthians 11:26).

    You are so close brother. 90% of new Christians read Luke and Acts through a tiny lense. Let’s just say there is a good chance that Luke is probably from of one of the 10 tribes of Northern Israel. There was no Jewish church. There were simpley Jews that didn’t want Israel to be apart of anything and some Jews didn’t like Jesus. If you read all the gospels Jesus is going after the lost tribes of Israel and healing everyone. Paul was the best guy to get the lost tribes of Israel back. Same thing with Apolos. These guys were marks men when it came to the holy scriptures. Snipers when it came to Isaiah and Deuteronomy. Think Jon Wick of the Torah. The New Testament wasn’t written yet. I’ll probably make a video about it. Great channel though.
