This is the best ever explanation about Giardia, its really hard to find the right information about this issue. I just adopted couple months ago a cat from the street, unfortunately she had Giardia. After 2 months, she already got a negative result: one from the sampling that the vet did and another one that I sent to the laboratory, but she still has soft feces, I am scared that she still has it. After watching this video, I will send again 3 serial samples, but in my country I just found the floating test (faust). I will let you know the results and l am thinking to make a tweeter story about my experience. To anyone who is passing into this, please, be patient with your pets, keep them clean and clean their bum immediately they poo.

I own multiple hunting dogs and can tell you first hand, a vet IS NOT YOUR FRIEND!!!!!! They are here to milk every ounce of money they can out of you. Did you hear everything she was talking about doing to a dog for freaking giardia?!? You would have $5K tied up in a dog before you could turn around with all the tests, lab results, medicine and vet visits!!! Over 30yrs I’ve learned a ton about how to deal with issues with a dog and most problems can be solved with over the counter cattle/swine/horse/ or goat medicines that are 1/3 the price of “Dog” medicine. Hit them hard with panicur for 5 days in a row. If that doesn’t fix the problem with giardia, then it’s either coccidia or another bacteria that requires azithromycn. You can knock out coccidia with either corid or sulfadimethoxine. See, I didn’t want to charge you a ton of money to tell you that either. 👍 Bottom line is; people stop breeding these inbred household pets that don’t live on dirt for 5 seconds a day and expect them to not have weird issues when a normal dog can live outside on a farm for 15yrs and never have any issues. It’s just like city folks these days. Their bodies haven’t built up immunity to anything!! The wind blows and they get sick from something most of us never even heard of.

My doggy has this right now :( I recently moved, and a week after living in my new place she started having symptoms, so I got a fecal sample done and she came back positive for Giardia. It's been a few days since she has taken the medicine and no longer has loose stools. But that's crazy how hard it is to get rid of. I hope she can pass it fast!

O'man! Talking about scaring the hell out of a pet parent! I understand that we need to be aware of these things, but this one is very scary! AND expensive sounding to manage, especially on a lower income like mine. I can't avoid walking my dog in public areas because I rent an apartment. I do stay away from dog parks. Due to my 11 year old girl's history of being infected with (something) 3 times in her life that has caused very horrible diarrhea - I cringe when she gets really interested in sniffing something in the grass and other areas. I carefully watch where I walk her and what she could come into contact with - always ready say "Leave it!" or to pull her away. Great video and information, Dr. Becker! It just scares me! My girl is an indoors dog and I take very good care of her. I don't spare the expense with her care, but the money still needs to be there to do it. She does see her Doctor once a year and I get the fecal tests done, but I'm not sure if they test for this. I follow your advice, along with your friend's advice (Kimberly Gauthier and Rodney Habib), with raw feeding and other advice you 3 give. Thank you for everything you do for us!!

Our previous golden had Giardia. Her mother had it too when she was a puppy. We have a replacement golden. She's now showing the same symptoms. The poop sample is going to the vet this morning for diagnosis. I'm confident she picked up some kind of a bug. We live where a lot of animals are in the yard. She was drinking a lot of rain water before the symptoms showed. It's soft mushy stool. Sometimes runny. So, off to the vet we go

So I’m just coming across this video. I’ve had a dog for 10 days now. day 1 I knew something was off bc I’m kinda a “helicopter parent” & noticed the stool was off from the get go. A couple days pass & tests being done turns out he has Giardia & other parasites & the vet hospital said the pup has had them for quite sometime (he’s 4months) & even looking at it’s medical record history & how much extensive deworming he has had on & off pretty much since he was born is a big indicator & factor that has added to this being an on going issue & only adds to how difficult it can be to actually get rid of in a puppy not to mention the damage it does as mentioned in this video considering he’s had it his whole life we’re guessing. I am heartbroken but I have another dog & for his own health as well as my immune compromised family I’m giving him back to the unethical breeder & hopes they can do right by the dog & get him back to proper health & condition. I’m new to the breeding world but the fact that people are selling dogs for thousands of dollars (like I paid) knowing they are infected & selling them homes with other dogs, kids, families etc & the emotional bond time energy & effort that goes into all this for the adoptive family is so disgusting how unethical these people are it sickens me & I honestly am heartbroken because I love the little guy but even with meds etc he is downward spiraling quickly I really feel sorry for him. These breeders need to be regulated

With my puppy it was sudden and one night of diarrhea that was black. I then had his stools tested and it came back from the lab has Giardia. The vet said it would take 72 hours to provide the medication, so hopefully, we will have the med for it by Monday. September 2021 he had "Fox Lungworm", he was all clear in October. November I started getting sick, now January it's Giardia. If my puppy is going to catch anything, he finds it.

@@Sunbeachpalmtrees1 It's usually found in a wet environment and "Giardia" likes puddles. "Fox Lungworm", not sure where he caught it, although I knew where I'd had taken him during the previous couple of weeks, so it could have been one of three different places. They recover very quickly from those two if treated immediately. The worst of all was September 2022, he was the last dog in our street that suffered from Hemorrhagic Gastroentritis, that was seriously awful, he was so week he could hardly stand up. He was in so much pain he was mooing like a cow. It took a long time for him to recover from that and it cost £2,000 for vet help. He had to go on a drip and everything. Six dogs in our road caught it and people didn't let me know other dogs had caught it prior to my dog until he did. Had I known the other dogs had it, I would have taken him out of the area in the car for a few weeks. All three of those conditions are highly contagious. So you have to keep you dogs away from other areas were dogs go. I chose to keep my dog indoors until he was completely recovered, didn't want other dogs to be infected by him.

So Dr. Becker..it is reasonable to suggest that if you suspect your animal having Giardia why not just TREAT . Who wants to run/back and forth for weeks with poo bags when it is obvious you may not have the correct sample, it may not be active, it may have missed the cycle . Just the time it takes to keep the sample before you see your vet you can lose the active evidence. Ive always just wormed my animals on a pre planned schedule twice a year once they are a year old - they are always into something, always eating discusting things off the ground, can pick up giardia everywhere so just makes sense to treat whether they have it or not twice a year and be done with it.

I’m going to give this a try… I have used panacure and the metronazole drug off and on since my puppy was 12weeks old with no success… nothing worked and mostly likely just tore her digestive system up even worse… I’m using Chinese herbs but she still has some diarrhea off and on… this is my next thing to try… thanks for sharing it…
