LYRICS:
Oh, thou blessed rock of ages
Hiding my dear soul indeed
When the storm around me rages
Rock of ages hide thou me
Hide me, oh, blessed rock of ages
'Till Thy blessed face I see
When the storm around me rages
Rock of ages, hide thou me
When my journey is completed
And there's no more work to do
Jesus guide my weary spirit
Happy land beyond the blue
Hide me, oh, blessed rock of ages
'Till Thy blessed face I see
When the storm around me rages
Rock of ages, hide thou me
Hide me, oh, blessed rock of ages
'Till Thy blessed face I see
When the storm around me rages
Rock of ages, hide thou me
Rock of ages, hide thou me

In my opinion Rex Nelon was one of the most underrated bass singers. He might not have been the lowest bass singer, but he was certainly one of the smoothest.

There sure isn't much on Rex. And he had an amazing voice. JD had such a crips clear voice back in the day. But he smoked 5 packs of cigs a day. He died of throat cancer, so that's why his voice didn't have much to give when he was older

Go back in time when JD sang this with the Blackwood Bro. He joined them after the BW Bros. airplane tragedy. June 30th. 1954. JD invented the Tour Bus, each singer with his own microphone, wrote over 500 Gospel Songs, and started the annual Quartet Convention that still goes on until now. Plus Guinness Book record lowest sung and recorded note, plus 2 grammy awards with Elvis.

Missing here was that sensational harmony on the chorus between Jake and Denver Crumpler. Plus, as great as JD was, no bass sang rhythm better than the Big Chief.

@@dougsmith9099 Wow! What’s the tagline: ‘Everybody doesn’t like something, but nobody doesn’t like Sara Lee!’ I argue that The Big Chief is the greatest bass SINGER of all time, but JD was the undisputed lowest; great innovator; funny as could be; had a very underrated upper range; was an excellent harmonizer (especially with Jake and the Master’s V); and was a prolific songwriter. So, I didn’t think anybody didn’t like JD!
