This is a song sung by a Man who knows he is about to come to the end of life's journey. You can tell he was singing the choruses with great resolve but still strong enough to drop some serious bass notes at the end of his lines. He is celebrating the fact that despite the times that he failed God, as we all have, God never left us. He is still with us despite our faithlessness, and he is faithful. It is a celebration of a life of God's faithfulness. RIP JD.

Thank you for your kind words ! I knew J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet all my life . My late father was a music producer and promotor and it was a Blessing to hanng out with J.D. , He had such a hunger for souls to come to Jesus ! He was quit the joker and made us life , But say something about winning souls to Christ , It would bring him to tears !

I just discovered this man today. What a soothing voice! What a beautiful song.

Only 73 when we lost him. What a testimony and voice.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Sumner when I was a wee lad in Buffalo NY. My parents purchased an autobiography and I asked him to sign it for me. He said sure "Palzy Walzy" It is now 45 years later and I still have that book. Most of all, I have the memory of this amazing man and his wonderful voice, that I will carry with me until our dear Lord calls me home. What a wonderful memory.

I knew j.d For many years. We sang togather many times,but not always on the stage, we shared many wonderfull hours promoting gospel concerts and started the Southern gospel association in the early 70s. We golfed often with many gospel music greats and jd was my parter because he knew l had a high handicap. I miss him and know that God still lives in this old house. a foursome wlt

My Dad met JD Sumner in WWII. Tonight I couldn’t sleep and I was listening to this and it seemed JD was bringing back my Dad for me to talk to. I have been ill and asked my Dad to ask Jesus to heal me. I believe JD is in heaven with my 6:25 love you Daddy and thank you for raising me to know, love and believe in Jesus! Thank you JD for all your years of singing songs my Daddy raised me in!

I've known J.D. Sumner and the Stamps Quartet all my life . What you have just seen is what J.D. was really like when he was talking about the Lord ! When we had concerts , J.D. was a lot like Elvis . Alway's joking or making people laugh . But he could alway's become vary serious when it came to talking about Jesus .

I love to watch those singing times with Elvis, JD/Stamps and the Oak Ridge Boys after concerts In those early morning hrs when he wanted to do those gospel sessions❣❣ Just read Elvis singing HOW GREAT THOU ART was his MOST requested song❣❣

Contrary to some other comments, this was NOT JD’s final performance. He died more than 2 years after this performance, whilst on tour. Further, people reading into JD’s mindset on this song, need to watch the last interview he gave (available here on YT). He was upbeat, full of life, and CLEARLY not of a mindset to leave us. Some people are confusing the circumstances of a tribute to JD with the actual facts!
