I've had mine for about two weeks. A platinum member, I ordered my doll the day she went on sale, August 10, and didn't get her until August 24th--from back order. I was a bit disappointed that this doll is the last (so far) in the Silkstone Barbie Fashion Model Collection. Although she has a pretty face, the doll does not have superb details of the earliest Silkies. She doesn't "sing" to me, like the earliest dolls in the collection do. Having collected a few pre-articulation era BFMC dolls, I can see the difference between The Gala's Best and let's say Lingerie #5 or Sunday Best that you have on the table. I understand why the much earlier Silkies' resell value is so inflated. High quality collectables are often expensive. The earliest Silkies are very high quality. They set high standards that the last four dolls in BFMC didn't meet.

Pretty expensive, I think your right, a necklace and a clutch bag would've made her look more attractive, gown was ok, didn't like the fact it was see through...

The color is really nice in real life.

I have her; she, Delphine and Tribute are basically three interpretations of the same concept but I think she's the least successful attempt. The other two dolls WOW me, but she doesn't. The corset doesn't look right on her skinny body and it doesn't fit well. I understand what Robert was going for with the skirt but, as many others have said, it looks like an undergarment instead of a finished gown. All that boning in the skirt but they didn't use any at the back of the corset where it would have prevented it from bunching up. Her face is gorgeous and the construction of the petticoat is very good. I rebodied mine onto the earlier BFMC body (I've done this with all of my articulated BFMC dolls - yes, even the platinum dolls - only three dolls left to do as soon as I get donor bodies) and the gown looks a lot better. It's a 50s style gown which should be on a body that looks like it's wearing 50s undergarments (underwire bra and girdle - even thin women wore girdles back then, don't believe me? Watch _Anatomy of a Murder_ where Jimmy Stewart tells Lee Remick to wear one when she testifies in court).

She is really prettt but I do wish she had one or two more tulle layers to hide the crinoline and a few more accessories like you mentioned.

Yep i do have one, mine has a fly away hair on the face 🤣🤣🤣...... And i agree with you that, she is overpriced.... maybe just because she's part of the last batch, mattel is successful in making a fuzz over her that made her a collectors' must have... I made her wear a necklace since her neck collar is too plain.... Other than that she's really beautiful and despite the price, i am still happy 😁😁😁😁

She is a very pretty doll.

I only got this doll because it was the last BFMC doll. I wasn't crazy about the hairstyle (identical to Stolen Magic minus the tiara) and gown when I saw the promos. The face is pretty but overall, it's a disappointing end to the collection. I really dislike the clumsy placement of the rosettes, the overworked corset is messy and the fact that you can see the petticoat through the outer layers of the skirt is tacky. The gown itself would be better without the corset if it wasn't see through. I left her in the box (I unbox the dolls I truly love).

Hair and gown are divine! A necklace or tiara would have been nice though. Jeffrey, do you have a preference between the older Silkstone bodies and the new articulated bodies? I also watch doll reviews by Suresh NY and he really makes it known how he dislikes the articulated Silkstones. I wondered how you feel about it or if you even have a preference?

I like both body’s for what they are. The more articulated ones are easier to pose. But the curvature of the older ones is sexier and classier

Lovely review! I gave up my platinum membership (since 2007) because of those same issues you listed. I miss the forums, but I don’t miss spending $35 for nothing. I wish this doll had accessories to justify the price point.

@@dannycarrington1601 That is so sad to hear about the forums! That was really the only place I had to talk about dolls. I’m just sad about the current state of Barbie. I have dolls from 10 and 20 years ago that are just so well done and detailed and new all we get is just overpriced junk. I have pretty much just quit collecting, slowly picking up silkstones I have missed along the way.

@@shannonrenee1352 I haven't been collecting much either. I'm excited about the new repros about to come out - Bill Greening does a really good job with those. The rest of the collector line is really disappointing. Another KZreadr suggested we should overlook the poor quality because Mattel's focus is currently on diversity, I disagree. They should be able to produce a variety of sculpts and skin-tones while ensuring quality. Mattel's standards are unacceptably low.

Hey Jeffrey, good review. I like the doll, really much - but she being the same as an OOAK from the last year with different colors was quite a down. I was expecting something fantastic for the last of the collection and turned out a no .... Then, it was the price. The price IS WAY OVER HELL and the doll does not deliver half of the content that other dolls in the past did. I don't understand - maybe they were rushing things so the collection would be finally over and that's it, no time for a better design and concept. The first doll was like telling everyone to get low hopes, we did not saw the signs! What matters most is to be happy with her, I feel many collectors are - but so many decided to not go for her once the price was absurd. It's scary to look at Barbie and expect a good thing nowdays - most of the times will be cheap or bad designed, I feel most of us got used to be disappointed by Mattel as a brand and Barbie as a doll for the last 5 years. Hope to see more reviews from great dolls! =) Thank u!

She's definitely a stunner but, as you say, way overpriced. I passed and don't regret it. Most of my doll budget has gone towards Integrity's new Jem line and vintage Barbie this year.

Of course, the articulated Silks don’t have the same quality or appeal of the original line, but I find her beautiful, lovely & happy to own her. A clutch, bracelet, pendant necklace would be apropos; but in Mattel’s cost cutting ways today, guess we have to purchase accessories separately. It’s fun to watch your reviews- blunt, to the point, a bit edgy. I chuckle 🤭

For $175 the fact that she is more expensive then a Integrity Toys and doesn’t deliver near half of what they do says a lot. Im sorry for Robert and having such and achievement in his life butchered by a greedy corporation as Mattel. The 2020 collection is the worst on the BMFC history, and it just breaks my heart.
