SERENADE IN SATIN Barbie Doll - Barbie Signature - Review

Ойын-сауық

OMG satin deliciousness! I'm deboxing and reviewing Serenade in Satin Barbie doll from 1997 who was part of the Barbie Couture Collection.
I am so IN LOVE with this girl! She is pure couture magic and I'm truly in awe of her majestic satin opera coat. The details, darling!! Exquisite satin, crisp taffeta and embroidery for days. Loving the ribbon detail on her satin skirt. Everything about this doll screams true Barbie glamour to me. I feel like this collection was made for me.

Suresh honey, you are single-handledly responsible for resurrecting my dormant love for couture dolls since my first time watching your videos! I’ve gone from 0 Barbies to over 30 in 2 yrs - not including digging out from storage my old 80’s and 90’s Barbies. I didn’t know what Silkstones were until I watched your videos on them! Now I’m totally invested and in love! Thank you for bringing Barbie, myself and other doll friends together! You bring me such joy after a long work day or crappy news. I’m sure your viewers agree you are a true joy and we love you! 😘💕

THIS is the Couture Luxury I dream of! Blue satin splendour (of course I'd like it, it's light blue ;) ), architectural hair (the higher the hair, the closer to God!), lining (pinch me!), so much to love! What I think what I love most though, is that the deep pleating of that GORGEOUS coat reminds me of a Robe à la Française. It's just so, so gorgeously luxe. I had seen Symphony in Chiffon but never knew she was the last in a SET! Thank you for bringing this set to my attention! Love the video as always. ☆

The original BFMC body (before they switched to articulation) was based on the body created in 1991 for the "Shani" collection of dolls (a series of African American dolls who were not part of the Barbie line). Compared to the twist 'n turn body, the Shani body has a slightly smaller bust that sits higher on the torso. New arm and leg sculpts were created for BFMC: the arms are the same length but the legs are longer making the BFMC dolls 1/4" taller than most Barbies. The back of the BFMC dolls' heads are marked "© Mattel 1958" to reflect that they are based on the original Barbie sculpt (though the neck opening has been revised so it can swivel). The back of the original BFMC bodies are marked "© 1991, 2000 Mattel" to reflect the dates the torso and limbs were created.

Your video reminded me that I always sort of liked Portrait in Taffeta when she came out, but didn't get her back in the 90s (I was mainly collecting Vintage back then). Now that she herself is 'vintage', I felt like I had to have her. Thanks to eBay, she should arrive soon. :) I have no doubt that I will be restyling the doll's hair when she arrives, I imagine there will be a deteriorated rubber band situation waiting for me, but I'm pretty handy with a comb, so I know she'll be lovely when it's all said and done. Can't believe how dirt cheap these dolls are nowadays, it really is a crying shame how overproduced they were. But I guess there was a demand for them at the time, and they did command high prices for a while there. Now their a bargain hunter's dream, so of course I had to live that dream. I might get this doll as well, your video is showing me a perspective on this doll I never had before. Everyone I know that has her has left her in the box, and I just don't think these dolls shine in the box. I'm not generally a fan of blonde, blue eyed Mackie face dolls, but this one is cute and that ensemble is off the chain. I might get her to steal the fashion for another doll. It would look fantastic on a doll with a skintone at least a couple shades deeper, I think. Now I'm envisioning it on an Asha doll. Hmmmm. Symphony In Chiffon, on the other hand, is a hard pass for me. Just not in love with the whole look of that doll. I do miss the craftsmanship of fashions from this era, it really was incredible how well made they were.

I think Barbie has lost that aspirational edge that made her so popular in the past. Back then she embraces the concept of idealistic beauty and fashion that helps people to dream big (as attested by many designers inspired by her) but now she's more like a tool for people to validate themselves. By doing so they are pulling her down to their level and it's no wonder we see nothing but the mediocre and so so now in terms of fashion. Barbie has always been closely associated with fashion, as seen by fashion inspired dolls like this as well as the countless collabs with designers over the years. Heck, the very first Barbie was called teenage fashion model. You can say it's her true identity or calling, and to see her fall far from that is sad. Not that there's nothing good going on now. The diversity is great but that's it. Nothing else. So yes, Barbie has lost her identity. Anyhoo nice review. Hope you'll be doing the Symphony in Chiffon next. She's my favorite in the series 😊
