I think Mattel retiring this line is a mistake. This was essentially the only line they had that could be compared to anything integrity is putting out. Mattel has had lots of good ideas as of late but just cannot seem to deliver on any of them.

She's so chic and love the gown that Robert Best designed. I was very saddened when Mattel end the Silkstones series. Wish they keep going. AA Debut and the Showgirl is my all time favorites from the series.

Unlike others, I like this doll’s hair. It is a throwback to the updos of Barbie’s time of origin. Also, it is like a golden crown atop her head. And let’s face it, the Barbie doll is the queen of fashion dolls. She has reigned since 1959. She deserves a crown of sorts.

I like the hair too. Maybe it's because my name is Cindy, but I've always been partial towards Cindy Lou Who. Also, I am Canadian, and culturally I don't have any association with the hairstyle being lower-class, as I have read someone comment elsewhere. I'd rather have this than a beehive, for sure.

First, I started collecting Silkstones because of your blog. I got I think the first ones: In the Pink, Provencale, Gala Gown, Cocktail Dress, Lisette and of course, Delphine. The quality of your reviews and the detail of your scrutiny made me believe that these are little fashion mannequins not dolls. Now onto your review.I agree about that corset. I think if it had so much detail going on. Maybe it needed a little support. Boning? The Silkstone era has ended and Barbie has focused on fixing its image by making Barbie represent all girls and boys even. She even gets to represent women achievers both modern and in the past (Ella F. Florence Nightingale, etc). And it seems the couture Barbie is relegated now to conventions or special events. The price points are more reachable too despite the lowering of quality (some say). There is engagement (voting of which Barbie theme doll will be released next too). I think if it wants to survive it has to go that route only because it is a multi-million dollar brand that is everything to everybody. Barbie part of history. Personally, I would have kept the Silkstone line afloat with just one grand release a year. Limited in numbers and still high couture in quality. But how can Mattel even look at Silkstones as a major source of revenue when the BTS doll line plus all the inclusivity doll lines have lifted Mattel shares? Mattel must have realized too that doll reviews are good for them -- you got me buying Silkstones. And if things get better in the world economy, I might just get this one. It is in my mind now.

WOW Suresh, It seems Mattel sent you an almost perfect doll, some of us weren’t so lucky. I know you have empathy for how frustrated we feel. The hair didn’t bother me as much as the construction of the bodice. I’m glad I got mine, she is coming out of the box for display only (not going to fuss with her flaws). I agree Suresh's looks better than some other's I've seen. Still not perfect, but better. I just got mine in a box from Amazon today, which I haven't opened yet. I'm kind of afraid to, but it was on sale here in Canada, and I can return it if it's a dud.

I was so obsessed I ordered one when you posted this and she just came in today! I got #343 of 5,000 nrfb her hair is perfection I’m so happy ty for the review I rewatched today to pretend I opened mine lol isn’t the color of the gown to die for?? It’s def giving me turquoise vibes w/the matching tight color, her earrings are so pretty, and I’m glad she’s bare neck too showing her delicate collar bones on the sculpt bringing 2020 to the final doll.

The dress is so much prettier and more elegant without the corset. I would miss the BFMC line if the standard were as high as it was in the first 10 years, but it's been going downhill in the last few years so I'm ready to say goodbye.

I don't know if you can get shipping from Amazon Canada, but I just ordered her for $200 Cndn, shipping included. That's about $150 USD. It is also sold from Amazon itself, not a third party. The box just came today, so we'll see if there are flaws, but I was surprised to find her available and on sale.

I had to laugh when you said she reminds you of Cindy Lou Who because I was thinking the exact same thing. The would be nicer probably if it wasnt quite so hard. Maybe if it could just relax a bit. I really do agree about the bustier, though. There is so much stitching on it that it overpowers the elegance of the taffeta. I know what I would try were she my doll, I dont know if it ruins the monetary value or what but I always make my dolls mine. I would probably remove the flowers from the bustier and sew them to the sheer dress portion. Then let her wear the bustier as an undergarment.

I'm not a fan of this doll. I wish Robert had made his swansong doll more special...there are too many similarities to Delphine and Tribute, both of which are IMO much better in quality and design than Gala. Though I am saddened the line has come to an end I would rather it go out on a relative high than linger as the quality and inspiration goes down.

This doll should have been fabulous for being the last. She definitely has her issues.
