Yeahh!!! I don't understand why people keep shitting on it for "being inspired by creepypasta" or "Look!!! [Insert character] from [insert series] you watched when you were a child is there!!!" When it isn't even,,, inspired by that or is meant to convey that in the first place. It's a zombie apocalypse show with the spin of your childhood cartoon characters being twisted and mutilated by an unstoppable, inescapable force. And even if it's inspired by that or.. something, there's nothing wrong with that. If it's 'cringe', I don't care, I'll embrace the 'cringe' I've seen so many cool and silly theories come from people in the Pibby fandom, and I hope there's more to come. @@iZaNull The FNF community saw Pibby, thought "This is creepypastas for cartoons!" and then started pumping out the worst mods possible. The only one who is creating decent Pibby FNF content is Jakenutron, and most of the early (critically damaging) Pibby mods traced his artwork and outright stole his music. Not to mention the original Pibby teaser also came out after some creepypasta FNF mods released so the timing couldn't be better (or worse). It hurt both the reputation of the FNF community (before it got even worse) and even Pibby's own reputation for a tiny bit as the only thing from searching Pibby would be the FNF garbage.

The problem with Pibby isn't that I hate the premise or concept. To me, I do believe making an apocalyptic show about long cancelled shows (either forgotten or fondly remembered) rising up from the dead by a mysterious glitchy sludge is intriguing to say the least. The animation is also very stunning as well. What I do hate about Pibby is the entire fanbase itself. Pibby, since her grand debut on this wonderful blue ball we call Earth, has spawned one of the fanbases ever made (I just can't seem to find the right adjectives for it at this point). Sure, fanbases are amazing, but they can be questionable at times. Not the fanbase itself, but more so the people in them. The Internet has taken Pibby and converted this intriguing concept of a show into a corrupted shell of its former self. The FNF community practically had a field day with this concept. What they would do is basically take an existing IP (e.g. any of our favourite forms of media) and glitchify or "Pibbify" them into eldritch abominations similar to either Cthulhu himself or whatever the Thing is. It's absolutely disheartening and unbelievable at what these people are doing with Pibby on the Internet. There are many ways you can support a project, but milking it dry like a cow is not one of them. I'm not encouraging or gaslighting anyone into giving up support for this amazing concept, but I just need to vent my frustrations out. Nowadays whenever I see anything Pibby-related, I no longer see that intriguing concept it once emerged as; I see it more as a corrupted dybbuk lurking in the shadows in the hopes that it would possess an unsuspecting person in order to spread its influence in any form of media. I can't even bring myself to even call the Pibby fanbase as it is. No longer do I see it as a fanbase, but more as a sinister cult who only worship Pibby as an ancient deity 24/7. It's truly heartbreaking at what the Internet could do to a concept like Pibby. This is seriously one of the most disgusting cases of people obsessing over a single piece of media. I, for one, have seen far worse examples.

Sometimes, piracy is necessary to preserve media and art that these creators have poured years of their life into. I hope people start pirating these shows as they get de-listed to keep them alive. I've even seen some of these artists tell their fans and supporters to do so

Preserve is the wrong word. All of these works are being preserved at the library of congress, and can often even be checked out for use. It's to ensure accessibility, not preservation. And that is still an important thing, but a different one.

I don't know where you got that information, but only seminal works of film are entered into the national film registry, and only television shows primarily produced by NBC are preserved within, of which, it's an incredibly varying degree; some shows are held in full, others only have a few episodes. It's not all shows, and it's not all movies. I fully endorse piracy of any work, because while there are people out there who will consume whatever and whenever and then just move on, more often people who love and enjoy a thing will go out of their way to then support that thing, or even go back and purchase that which was pirated. And with more and more paywalls, live services, de-listings, and business manipulations without consequence (the tax write-offs by killing shows for example), and the extremely difficult if not nigh-impossible uphill legal battle it would take to not just slow such things down but outright halt them completely? Yeah, it's just as much preservation as it is accesibility.

I think smiling friends is potentially a new age for adult swim. It truly proves that internet/KZread writers and comedians can make actual television shows. If AS takes advantage of that we could see some popular NG animators make shorts to air, or even deeper/darker shows by short film writers on yt. Not like a rush or anything, but maybe give another creator a chance to air a short and see how it goes.

And of course, it had to end on the biggest cliffhanger the show could offer (Spoiler Warning): with Invictus getting out of Final Space and Ash going full evil. Felt like a total slap on the face to see it get canceled.

im tired of big companies being so deaf to their audience, people LOVE fandom shows these days. it seems like with every passing day people value a good and creative story more and more. people want interesting new stories that actually have something to say, not another shitty reality drama where producers force conflict when the cameras are off.

That's bull, cause as a girl I like cartoons. And I was pissed off when they got rid of Close Enough. I would say grandma's only watch reality shows, but since I'll become a elder millennial in my 30s so it's basically just random people who like reality shows cause they think that's mature to watch. But I'll never get old from watching cartoons and other awesome animation. Also they just announced that Tuca and Bertie has been cancelled. And now I'm sad. 😿

Joe Pera Talks With You being cancelled broke my heart. It was the one show that, to me at least, kick started everything that came after. Ballmastrz, The Shivering Truth, Primal, etc. Even Smiling Friends. For a while the channel block felt like a breath of fresh air.

I didn't even realize people hated Pibby.

@@weeb_dweeb what’s so upsetting is that television companies are INSISTENT that cable is the best way to distribute their shows. Which means only episodic shows and only baby shows. Problem is…streaming is highly successful and extremely popular. But they don’t want to fund shows that thrive on that cuz it’ll reach a demographic they don’t want….women and people above the age of 12. Cuz apparently those guys can’t buy anything. The only profit to be made is by making 10 year olds beg their mothers for toys.

Pibby struck me as appealing the the Happy Tree Friend Genre of Cute Horror. It's weird to me if I want to stream Rick and Morty I have to buy Hulu TV and can't watch this season at all on HBO

I’m not gonna lie, Adult Swim’s most recent run of futurama is how I started watching the show. I’ve know about it for years but never really had an outlet to watch it so it’s been really fun getting to experience it all for the first time

The little theory with having pibby show older shows to a newer audience kind of makes sense. With how agua teen hunger force wasn't recognized by some people, eventually having them make something new for that IP which came out recently I believe

I cannot state how sad I am about Infinity Train... I was hooked since the pilot episode hit KZread, waited years for it to actually come out, loved every second of it, and now I'm so sad to lose it.

Pibby's popularity could be used by the network to efficiently show off old shows (either as a memorial to an old show or to try to draw people to streaming the shows) and potential new properties, even if done as a series that is just like 3-5 minute episodes on KZread. Love it or hate it they have something that is potentially a hidden asset for marketing purposes and testing concepts without a massive commitment

I wouldn't compare storytime animators that have other people do all of their coloring/shading, editing, syncing and even draw some of the frames entirely. To actually funny animators creating entirely original works, with proper scripts (not just spouting member-berries) making them with minimal outside help for the drawing. production

This is why I find Disney to be so successful, they don't make spectacular content, but they make consistent content. You know what the next marvel movie or show will be like structurally. Any contracts they make are closed shut. So getting out of them legally will cause more trouble than the people just waiting for it to end. Disney is not perfect, but they do have a darn good track record on how to not get into business issues

I first saw episodes of Total Dramarama and was very confused but wanted more Gwen, then two episodes of Total Drama Island with teenage Gwen and I immediately wanted to watch more Total Drama and started wonder since they were the same characters why they didn’t seem to know each other. Mannn, I remember being 10, watching the very first intro bump. In our early 20’s adult swim was the ‘come-down’ channel. It was consistently on. I didn’t have TV during the Rick & Morty era and arrived to that party 4 years late. Smiling friends was a wonderful return to form. This current era seems to have them in an area where they don’t have a niche, but are still trying to remain this island in the mainstream.

Adult Swin needs a Hit like Smiling Friends and CN needs an Infinity Train, OK K.O., and Mao Mao again.

And now it's expanding to 5 PM. 5. PM. And it still signs off at 6 AM. I know kids don't watch TV anymore but you don't see Nick@Nite getting more hours than regular Nickelodeon (including Nick Jr)

It’s cool to see someone I watch discover Bob’s work before better call Saul. I think that Mr. show is an absolute masterpiece of sketch comedy and better then and could ever be.

i think one day imma make a retrospective on cleveland show. cartoons/animation has been a bigg part of my life for like ever. i’m like the middle child of birth years, i was born in 05 so although i wasn’t around when adult cartoons first came out i was there to watch them grow. and being a tween tht had to much access to the internet i would watch futurama, robot chicken, family, etc on a regular basis and it really impacted me. the cleveland show started when i was like 3-5 and ended when i turned like 10. i remember seeing episodes air but i never really paid attention bc it wasn’t family guy. but there weren’t many show tht had the “vibes” or “aesthetic” of the shows i loved like family guy but didn’t have many black ppl actually in them or at the least well portrayed. re watching the show from the pilot when i was younger vs now, i have mixed feelings abt the show😭it didn’t age as well as we thought but at the same time its still a classic in my eyes.

Speaking about loving family guy I loved and still love season 1-7 of family guy It just makes me happy watching any episode from those seasons

As an Australian, I've already post processed the loss of my favourite cartoon and that kind of media platform. In the 90's/2000's we had CheezTV it was a morning cartoon block hosted by actual teenagers and the idea was that they picked the cartoons and content coz kids know what kids are into. Honestly even though in hindsight I'm sure they had less control than we were lead to believe, but honestly it was prime viewing for kids. Like when they did the art submissions segments and the in between segments kids were still fully engaged. To the point where there was a huge petition by adults to revive it with the original hosts and even make it a web show. Alas, it did not come to fruition. But the two hosts are still legends to anyone who grew up around that time to this day. Related note, people still find the old intros and stuff to geek over and reminise about. But there is no feeling like finding that old VHS where you recorded it all coz you were gonna miss the end the last cartoons and wouldn't know what was happening.... NEXT TIME... ON... Dragon...Ball.....Z!

11:36 - I haven't seen it yet but it can be done, and Cartoon Network specifically did it. As evidence I present Space Ghost Coast to Coast and Harvey Birdman. Both use old Hanna Barbera (basically anything they had licences to) and also worked well as a stand alone show, you didn't watch specifically George Jettson or Fred Flintstone were in it. Them being their outside their intended context is what made the show more interesting. The show does revolve around the guest staring to some degree, but it isn't the only reason you are watching. It's more the meta commentary based on the familiar extended outside of a family friendly scope.

Well Primal is up in the air at the moment, hasn't been renewed but also hasn't been cancelled either, there's an interview with Genndy Tartakovsky floating around where he says he's busy with other stuff and season 3 of Primal is gonna be vastly different from the prior two and how he wants the show to be an anthology but he's not gonna force stuff out and when the ideas are there then he'll come back to it but we'll see.

Whenever people say "I don't like anime", it kinda blows my mind. Like, anime isn't a genre. The sheer variety of the medium means literally anyone can find something they like. My 64 year old mother used to say she didn't like anime until she watched "Erased" on Netflix. Then she watched Parasyte, Demon Slayer & now she's getting into tokusatsu because of Garo. My ex hated animation but was all in for High School of the Dead. My point is, never give up on anime! Edit: Also Primal is switching to an anthology & Peacemaker is safe according to Gunn 😁

As someone who was avoidant of anime, it's just because I grew up on Naruto and similar shonen stuff, you know... badly written/one-dimensional female characters, power level stuff, etcetera. I learned that I just don't like mediocre anime, and there's a lot of it. But with all art forms, there's a lot of good art. People who say they don't like anime usually are people who've just seen the typical anime bullshit and were turned off. All you need to do is show them an anime with very little to no anime bullshit. I still don't watch anime frequently but I also don't dismiss the good stuff. Recently, Mob Psycho and My Little Monster were some I found enjoyable. One even makes fun of some typical anime bullshit tropes in Mob Psycho. And I love Reigen. Someone wrote a tweet way back that I think my brother can relate to-it said something like "Showing anyone anime is hard because you have to know how much anime bullshit they're cool with and you won't know unless you already know them very well".

It's funny because 'anime' is just the word for cartoon in Japan. Every country has animated films, but when it comes to Americans, for some reason too many of us (not me) believe it's "kid's media" so they don't both looking at it.

I loved final space with all my heart and I knew that it would eventually get canceled or shortened to the point where there would be an unsatisfactory conclusion. I am happier left with the show unfinished than mutated, however this fucking hurts I loved this show for so long and to never see a conclusion, future seasons, or anything of the sort hurts.

I was so excited for the uzumaki series coming to toonami. The author of the manga junji ito was helping direct it and the score was written by the guy who worked on hereditary. I WAS SO PUMPED AND IT JUST DISAPPEARED it’s terrible that business deals are responsible for so many creative minds being limited. Warner media is home to revolutionary art. Alt , edgy representation and stories that actually changed lives. But regardless the media isn’t gone. And if we continue to push to prioritize expression we can keep having these shows produced (supporting artists, crowdfunding)

The special is still happening. The reason it's been radio silent is because COVID impacted animation hard and it's a small crew working on it. They hope to have the series ready by Halloween 2023.

Family Guy leaving [adult swim] is really sad because it was part of everyone’s childhood. It was part of mine. Hearing about King of the Hill and Futurama returning on [adult swim] was exciting because I remember hearing the King of the Hill theme whenever [adult swim] airs and I watched Futurama on SyFy and Comedy Central now it’s on [adult swim] I can watch both shows on the channel that had Family Guy. We have to remember why Family Guy left [adult swim] and Bob's Burgers being the next show to leave the block all because of one company, Walt Disney.
