So here's the Update you have all been asking for. It certainly didn't go great, I learned a few lessons along theway but that's the reality of plant care. Not all projects go as planned. Isn't it amazing how you can be so proud of a plant. I will have a plant that has spidermites and I'll spend time wiping the leaves and giving silicone etc etc and when it finally kicks them ill be so happy for it. Same with a sick plant that needs to be chopped down and gets new roots, I'll be like. Yes! Not today death! To be honest I think you did the right thing from the start and in a way it's a better outcome. You will have grown the plant up from nothing so it's all your work! Well done and loved the video.

@@LeafyLuster Even though those big leaves are now gone, its leaves have grown beautifully and look healthier than the old ones, so that means you are doing great!

you had to cut back her roots pretty aggressively due to the rot, so it's not a surprise she had to drop all of those massive leaves - she didn't have the roots to support them anymore! but she'll definitely grow back to her former glory and beyond, with your care. you saved her!

you bought one old plant, but you ended up with several !!!! I have been thinking about Monstera for a while now...in the city of Hamilton, Canada, there is a restaurant on Ottawa street with a 50 year old monstera . It has only been moved once i am told. To this day it is the largest plant i have ever seen in my life !! That got me interested in the plant . which led me to your videos.. Also , when you showed the updates with the water propagation i was literally pumping my fists in the air and shouting YES !!! you just gained a subscriber.

Wow, you did great! I loved the 11 yr old 7’ Monstera; however, you can now showoff the beautiful Monstera you grew from scratch in only 1 yr. You should be very proud of your decisions & success; congrats!

Just learned my monstera is a large form and is already giving very large leaves with beautiful holes and I'm very excited to see its growth!

you know how tough times can make for closer relationships? I feel the same way about plants, those that I saved from root rot or pests i usually cherish to the most. yall are gonna be besties for life :)

I want to say you did a phenomenal job saving this plant. You demonstrated how recilient plants can be when properly looked after. If I had been in your shoes I would have done the same to the mother plant and although it was sad to see the plant react that way, your plant bounced back stronger then ever and she will love you more for it! I can't wait to see her journey growth

Dont worry about people being angry with what you did, I actually really enjoy your channel because of all the experimenting ! It certainly helped me not be too afraid of trying things with my plants, and that's what's fun about having plants ! And as you say, they grow back and if you fail, then at least you've learnt something !

This is the best thriller I've seen all weekend!. Min 0:26: I'm covering my mouth and yelling: Noooooo! I hadn't seen anything since you bought it and found root rot. Min 1:54 True to your Kill This Plant t-shirt, you killed it and resurrected it. - Renaissance music included. - 😅 I'm Colombian. Monstera Deliciosa abound in my country. You did the best thing you can do for Monstera: You cut your losses, cleaned it, and took her out for a spring and summer vacation. Don't worry so much about temperature. They're fine with 13°C upto 30°C. They can withstand (and actually benefit) from more sun than people think. Just make sure the transition is gradual and the plant doesn't get more than 4-5 hrs direct strong sunlight (I mean strong sun like in the tropics, not direct spring or autumn German sun, you can go to town there). You may consider replacing the soil treated w peroxide, as it kills the good organisms as well as the bad, so your soil has now lost nutrients. You'll see in 1-2 years she'll be back to her 11 year old self ❤ She'll be an old soul. I suggest you name her Renata. Latin for reborn.

In my experience, water propped roots are best transferred into a heavy sphagnum moss and orchid bark mix….as soil can cause rot.

ouh hell no the first 2 minnutes really breaks my heart 😢 i got to know your channel because of that monstera and that inspired me to rescue one with a decent size, I hope it will get as big as you got it soon!!!

Very cool! Ive had similar experiences with the really massive ones like this (Mine had baby cockroaches in every nook and cranny lmao so i had to chop it down to the bare log. some stuff rotted fast but others managed to pull through! Happy its not actually dead and you still have parts of it alive and well! many people have polarizing opinions but like you said there are a lot of way to make it work and not every way works for everyone based on unseen conditions! You did great!

I was so excited for this update!!!! I have a large form monstera that my friend gave me and it’s one of my absolute favorite plants! So glad yours is healthy and growing now!

This video inspired me to rescue my neighbour’s monstera as a fun experiment. It had dropped all its leaves due to neglect and wasn’t in the best state. I brought it home, cut up the stems for wet stick props and repotted the remaining bare stem in a smaller pot. Thank you so much for such a fun and amazing video!! Wish me luck with my rescue🧿🪴

My monstera is still shooting out new leaves today, 13 Dec. I also repotted it the day after I bought it, I know that's not what everyone says to do, but you're right, we paid for them, we can do what we want!

I actually like the bare stem look. 👍

You could try air layering the mother plant closer to the new apex, giving her the benefits of those huge nodes with full new roots up close, each of the sides would be a whole adult plant on its own with the benefits of age and maturity from the mother plant. After cutting off the rooted tops you could move down a node or two and air layer again, moving down as each new top node sprouts leaves and roots and is cut off. That way she can rest and recover the old roots and you can have fully rooted cuttings every few months, in addition to those mature cuttings!

I hope you don’t mind me sharing a hint….I rescued a 10 yr old super neglected monstera & had to butcher it just like you did. Liquid seaweed extract has been a fantastic supplement to really give the shocked plants a bit of a boost. There’s many varieties around & it’s not expensive either….hi from Australia & thank you for your videos as they’re really interesting & very helpful

Your Monstera Project kinda inspired me to buy a neglected one for myself! Mine wasn't lush at all, pretty bare but with some huge leafes for 15 Euros. I made a top cutting (3 Leafes, one I had to remove - the rest of the plants in that pot were bare stem and babys) and now I have 50+ Monstera probs and a huge one with just one leaf grown at my place (I got her in Mai, so she is kinda a slow grower for me... But also she got thrips right after her new leaf came out so I think she is shocked). When we picked her up, the owner told me it belonged to his family since he was a baby so around 40+ years. I'm looking forward to give that plant the care and love it needs, so it can get massive growth ❤

Easy. Wurzelfäule. Passiert durch das dauerhafte Übergießen der Pflanze. Oder wenn sie mal zu trocken wurde und man dann die toten Wurzeln nicht entfernt hat und einfach weiter gegossen wurde.

Ich glaube durch den verlust so vieler Wurzeln, hatte sie einfach nicht genug Energie/Nährstoffe/Wasser um die großen Blätter zu versorgen. Vielleicht war es auch ein bisschen ein Schock zustand durch die drastischen Änderungen.

The propagations look great! But I was always told that when you replant monstera propagations you only bury the roots leaving the stem above the soil level or it will start to rot. Is this not the case?

Yes that's right, if POSSIBLE I try to only burry the stem halfway in soil. More or less laying it on top of the soil. If it's shaped weird that's not always possible. Of course the risk of rot rises. Also update the stems did rot and I cut them off just to be sure the rot would not spread into the new growth.

@@Faesharlyn Yeah, that's more how I was taught to do it. There were a few earlier in the video though at about 3:20 ish that seem to be planted with the stem completely buried. But I guess you just have to work with what you've got!

So after bringing it home I did not want to stress it, soooo much so I did not repot immediately. Then after the first leave turned yellow I decided to repot and check the roots, that's when I found the rot. I cut away all of the dead roots and propagated some more. And then unfortunately it did not turn out well. I guess the plant did not have enough healthy roots left to suppoort the giant leaves and hence threw them all of. At this point after repotting I couldn't do more than just treat it with H202 regularly and hope for the best. (note: I did treat it with Hydrogenperoxide a few times, not just the one time shown in the video, I started earlier.)
