I'm NEVER growing Monstera Deliciosa Variegata like this again!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Since people always tell me that small form and large form Monstera don't exist, my Albo should be able to grow giant leaves as well! I doubt it, but I figured my best shot would be upgrading it from a simple wooden stick to a proper moss pole. A lazy pole to be specific! My absolute favorite type of trellis. Now we wait and hope for huge Monstera Deliciosa variegata leaves, which is ironic because my green Monsteras do not require a moss pole to get big .

    The easiest ways to tell between the two are large forms crawl, small forms climb…large form also has tighter internodal spacing and where the stem meets the leaf it will have ruffles

    I'm utterly fascinated by the beauty of these rare plants! I've got 3 Thai Constellations that I grew from tissue culture - what a journey! As an artist on a budget, I can't always afford the real thing, so I've started creating realistic versions of any rare or expensive plant I like, without breaking the bank. haha

    Those are the same poles I use. Stackable, cheap, and keeps moisture in very well (moss poles drying out within a day in the winter is the worst). Thanks for sharing

    The only Deliciosa that is variegated is the ti. Borsigiana is the small form. And the Borsigiana is a climbing vine. Delisiosa is more of a self heading form. I've been growing both for 25+ years

    Yes there has to be large verses small, in my experience. The short internodal spacing on large form is one of the main reasons that I Prefer it.

    Very timely video.. I was planning to chop my monstera tomorrow for cuttings. Loving your content from India. I will set up aerial roots on to moss pole tomorrow instead and cut it in monsoon time. Mine seems to be smaller variety. I thought that as roots grow bigger, fenestration pattern and leaf size improves. Let's see how it goes by next year😂

    @@LeafyLuster Fenestration happens more when the top gets more indirect/sunlight, so it forces the leaves to divide sunlight to his bottom brothers and sister leaves. It is a myth that it does not handle direct sunlight, the older big ones can handle direct sunlight, if it can adjust over time and in moist environment.

    I agree that there are small and large form monstera. Interestingly though, I used to have a monstera that was supposedly a completely reverted classic Albo (so small form) become very big with huge leaves like a large form. The difference was it still had longer internodal spacing than the known large forms I've seen.

It seems they love to grow sideways rather than upwards when they are larger forms, I assume to hold the weight of their large leaves? It's so fascinating!

My last one I g had ave been told by the seller it is large firm and even as a baby has bigger leaves than my original monstera which is definitely borsigiana.

    How to water the moss pole without watering the pot?

  • @LeafyLuster

    @LeafyLuster

    5 ай бұрын

    That is not possible I guess. They are connected and if you water the pole to much, the excess water will flow into the soil. I use an empty water bottle wit a hole in the cap to slowly drip water into the pole. This ways I can control how much water goes in and I am also allowing the moss to soak up most of it, so it doesn't end up in the soil.

I watched the video from Pretty In Green and he doesn't mention it, so maybe nobody has checked out genetic differences between the monsteras yet?
