    You can see Robin is struggling so hard. She knows she's going to break Steve's heart, but she has to tell him the truth because she really loves him and knows he deserves honesty. And Steve handles the situation sooo brilliantly. This scene is so touching, sad and relieving at the same time. Masterpiece.

    I love how they framed this scene, especially the first half. They're directly facing each other but the toilet partition provides a divide that lets them both express their emotions perfectly: Steve's rising sincerity and Robin's crestfallen despair. On the one hand, Steve has come such a long way from the arrogant, judgemental d-bag he was in season 1, so it is totally in character that he would be so accepting of Robin regardless of her sexuality or the fact that she didn't reciprocate his romantic feelings for her. On the other hand, he probably understands on some level that coming out to someone (especially back then in middle America) is / was a pretty big deal, and ripping on her choice of crush is his way of showing that nothing has changed between them. Without explicitly saying so Steve is showing Robin that he accepts and supports her, because that's what friends do.

    Stranger Things is really good at breaking stereotypes and that's one of the reasons I like it. Like back in season 1 I thought Hopper was going to be one of those adults who doesn't listen to the kids at all and thinks they are just making up all the stuff so that the kids have no choice but to solve the mystery by themselves. Instead Hopper became one of the main characters who also tries his hardest to solve the mystery and that was definitely a good thing.

    @@bigboulder I don't think this was any kind of gut punch for Steve. His crush is unrequited, sure, but he obtains a best friend which is in many ways what he needed as a character. It also directly shows character growth compared to how he was dealing with rejection in the first season. I would expect him to fully transition into a father/big brother figure in the fourth season. I suspect there might be a romantic subplot for him as well

    This series is set in 1985. A time when being openly gay was extremely dangerous. And also a time when TV and movies started challenging the idea that being gay was somehow wrong. Robin represents that. A wonderful, quirky, lovely girl that is struggling in her loneliness about being gay, about wanting someone to love...about being accepted. And there is Steve, one of the biggest jerks from her school, turning out to be a damned good friend. And she is TERRIFIED that he will reject her friendship, that he may even attack her over being gay (which happened and still happens today)...she loves him AS A FRIEND...and she is scared. And Steve simply accepts it. It takes a few seconds to understand it. She may be the first gay person he ever met. And he just...accepts it. When so many would not have, Steve make a Muppet joke and accepts her. That is why in the end, Robin gets Steve a job. She will now defend that doofus until the day he dies. Steve protects the Party, but Robin protects Steve. Because he earned it.

    @Matheus E You sure? I didn’t sense any real implications of her being a lesbian at all. Not like she should’ve worn a sign on her chest exclaiming her sexuality, but I honestly feel like the character would’ve remained relatively the same if she was straight. It’s not a bad thing that they added an admittedly “gay” character to the roster, but I feel that they should’ve done it in a way that would actually impact/explain the decisions she makes over the course of the show, not just so that she could turn down Steve. Hopefully in the fourth season they’ll actually build upon her sexuality and properly implement it into her character, but I just feel like the way the “big reveal” happened could’ve been better.

  • @JetDarknessable

    @JetDarknessable

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@swissidol8403 The way i see it, it changed her and the relationship she had with Steve. For example, it shows the struggle she had with her sexuality possibly affecting her friendship with Steve, because he could judge her or being so heartbroken. Sure, she didnt need to be gay for the Steve rejection thing to work, but i think it was a clever way to do it. I mean, Nancy already dumped Steve cause he wasnt her type, if the same happened to Robin, it would be kinda boring. I also think it was meaningful to her, because it adds to her personality. The whole season i thought she liked to tease and mock Steve in a way of drawing his attention to her, kinda like "notice me" way. So it works like a semi plot twist, if you will. And yeah, it wasnt explored a lot, but it didnt needed to be. Shes a secondary character on a pretty large roster, and sexuality is far from the main focus of the plot.

He chose to keep her sexuality a secret from everyone, including Dustin. This shows you how much Steve has matured and continues to mature throughout the show. Even though there a high chance he could die in Season 5, I hope he doesn't because he deserves a happy ending.

    Sort of reminds me of Degrassi when Marco comes out to Spinner and assures him he won't hit on him because he doesn't find Spinner attractive anyway. Spinner, despite being straight, is hugely offended by that comment. "Whaddaya mean I'm not attractive?!"

    Such a great moment. You can tell how much Robin loves Steve, but also knows they can't be together, and also is scared of hurting him and coming out at the same moment. Just a raw, beautiful moment. And Steve accepts this, and also comforts her coming out in the most Steve way possible. These 2 are the best part if stranger things

    Oh my gosh. I just realized that they play “The First I Love You” when they’re laughing about Tammy singing like a muppet. What’s so profound about this is that it’s a platonic love, not just a romantic love. I love this scene so much
