do y’all have any idea how much robin must’ve trusted steve to come out to him? it’s hard to come out to friends now. imagine how hard it was when this took place- in the 80s i believe it was. robin had to have been absolutely certain steve would accepted her. mad respect

after saying she was obsessed with him though she didn’t have a whole lot of options but to explain. you could definitely tell and FEEL how nervous she was after saying it too. so i think absolutely certain is an overstatement but she definitely had to have some amount of confidence in him. kind of unrelated but i can’t imagine how hard it would have been to not talk about this episode right after the season came out (but obv keeping it in would have been important to not spoil for others). i would’ve wanted to talk about it and absolutely nothing else, ig i’m lucky i only got netflix when the season had been out for a while lol

The last scene is low-key so beautiful in so many ways. For her to come out to him with some hard to swallow pill, but then he just turns around and starts instantly giving her light-hearted relationship advice. And not only that, but she reveals to him one of the deepest pains in her life, and he instantly makes her feel better about it by making her feel like there are better girls out there than Tammy. Low-key, Steve is like the best friend you could ask for lol.

The bathroom scene is so good. I just love the emotion in the hysterical laughter near the end. It’s almost like they were both surprised at how Steve responded and the relief they felt together was euphoric. Just the laughter as they realize they both love the hell out of each other just as they are is so well done.

It sucks that when Steve finally got over Nancy and found a girl he liked - one he genuinely liked, got to know and wanted to be with, not just some fling he could also casually hang around with from time to time - she turns out to be gay. But honestly, their friendship is beautiful and she looks and acts like his sister anyway lol so it's better this way xD They're going to have some real, epic moments together for sure - I'm talking like, _they can rival Steve & Dustin friendship_ kinda moments.

Their bathroom scene is one of my favourites. Steve accepts that he loves robin and confesses and then she turns out to be a lesbian. Steve doesnt realize it the first time and robin looks so hurt then steve realizes the truth and thinks for a while and instead of being upset (cause its not the best situation to confess to a girl who you didnt know is a lesbian) he supports her and makes her laugh when she feels destroyed Now that is great character development on steves side and great relation between the two characters Them being besties is much better than being a couple

I think the beauty of Robin's story from the beginning is that most, not all, but most of the viewers thought that she was this outcast who didn't get noticed by Steve and that she wanted to be with Steve when in actual reality, some part of her wanted to BE Steve because all the girls noticed him, not her. I think it's a nice change in terms of storyline. Like some commenters would say, if they ended up together, it would've been too predictable and too generic. This relationship of theirs gave us a friendship we never knew we needed. there's a lot of gay guy characters with straight female characters friendship, so it's nice to have this from Netflix :)

Tbf, she made it clear in her next line after that, that she was obsessed with the things he had, not really him. “We still just want to be popular, accepted, normal.” Since she felt like an outcast because of her sexuality, she just wanted to be seen as normal and to have people like her like people did with Steve. At the time, since we didn’t know her sexuality, I assumed she was just a social outcast in school. Them being love interests seemed too obvious, so I always viewed them more as friends from the start, and this scene was one of the ones that made me sure they wouldn’t end up together by the end. I didn’t predict that she was gay though.

Tammy Thompson is missing out. Robin speaks several languages, plays sports, can play a musical instrument, is funny, resourceful, and highly intelligent. Not to mention, she has great tastes in movies. She is quite the catch.

Yeah I noticed that too. Steve clearly internalised that interaction with Nancy because it really hurt him, so "bullshit" when he says it carries a lot of baggage.

  • @dildoyolo

I knew from the second she spoke she was going to be lesbian and I was so scared at being misrepresented and let down but god , Maya Hawke blew me away. She’s so dedicated to Robin as a character - it genuinely means so much to me as a lesbian myself. Representation matters so much , just as well as the reaction to it. Steve made me really proud and him accepting Robin so quickly is a great show of character to how far he’s come. You can clearly see it’s not something he’s encountered before and that he’s let down on some level but at the same time - Robins his friend. The first true one he’s ever had. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had never felt that level of trust before. I really just love this friendship. Netflix did amazing on S3 - I hope S4 holds up to it.

I was like halfway through season four when I realized that Steve is actually the only person Robin has come out to so a lot of the other ppl think her and Steve are a thing and also goes to show how much she trusts Steve in order to tell him that and I think it's so great that he could just accept her
