Well, it’s been a good ride everyone. Nathan’s finally realised what the best role is, and there’s no way I can compete with his Naut and Braum.

In the topic of duo queue, back when we could queue in ranked with a full party (thank god that died btw), I used to play a lot with my (now ex) gf and a group of friends. Me and my gf were placed in bronze, they were 2 diamond and 1 plat player. I was forced to fill jungle because it was the only role left, and we played together and were like 20 games in and were basically at the same rank with 3 smurfs btw. I was also getting annoyed at one of the diamond players because he was egoing about not needing to help me when I got invaded because he's diamond and will carry anyway. Which didn't happen often. I remember one game where he was getting stomped because the enemy mid was also smurfing and better than him, and I was playing probably my best game ever until that point on the old Sejuani, and I ended up carrying him. That one game gave me the confidence to have that talk with my gf, to tell her that I wasn't playing with them anymore and I would play solo from that point on because I wanted to improve. I got out of bronze and into gold in like 25 games playing solo. From that point on, I never played duo again, and I 2 seasons later I peaked past that mid laner's peak rank. TL;DR: if you wanna climb, don't duo. Focus on yourself and improve your own games. If you lose games, focus on what you did wrong and work on that, because nobody will be there to cover those mistakes for you

the discussion of talent reminded me of social media posts about art: any time people see something cool the comments are full of "now THAT'S talent" or "wish I were that talented 🥺" ... no. That's not talent. That's a skill, born of hours and hours and hours of practice. Maybe there's talent, maybe not. But there's certainly skill, born of repeated practice. Maybe some people get off on being called naturally talented for the skills they've spent hundreds of hours honing, but there's definitely others who don't like that. It's a skill, and people need to start respecting that. ...but that would hurt people's complacency too much, wouldn't it? The idea that if they'd spent hundreds of hours practicing painting or piano or sculpture they could do it too. It's so much easier to just call it talent and be jealous.

for me personally what keeps me engaged in the game is winning and climbing. Ive taken long breaks from the game before and each time it was because I felt like I wasn't climbing, so it seems silly to me that Riot would make people lose when losing is what makes you want to quit the game when it happens often.

About the champion complexity thing: I'm the duo person from a few weeks back and had decided on focusing on my Kai'sa purely solo. Well, it turns out that Kai'sa is a pretty difficult champion to learn the game through the lens of and that's been my latest struggle in my purely solo journey. Trading and farm are not disconnected due to her short range compared to the rest of the ADC cast. She also doesn't have a simple identity and reference point. Sometimes you must snowball and sometimes you must play a more patient game. So, I'm beginning to think that choosing this champion is not doing me any favors and it took me not duoing anymore to realize this. When I was duoing I could somewhat mitigate the chaos caused by my support because I could always be on the same page as them so it was less of an issue that I was playing a high complexity champion. Now it sticks out like a sore thumb that I can't handle it because I cannot predict what my support will do so I have to actually be good enough to compensate for it. At least, that's my hypothesis.

That's interesting because I just hit plat for the first time by switching from caitlyn to kai'sa. If you haven't seen them I would check out one of xfsn saber's kai'sa coachings from when she was really meta last spring. The items and runes are different now but the patterns are the same. Play safe until q evolve unless you have the opportunity to proc passive, then look for chances to all in with isolated q on q evolve spike.

@@jacksonmagas9698 The funny thing is I'm considering making the opposite change. I understand much better what I'm supposed to be doing in lane on Caitlyn, and I have much more success overall on her.

I tried out Kai'Sa, it didn't go well for me at all. I main Ashe and the champions are too different in philosophy and approach to the game. I'm adding Xayah to Ashe and I have more fun and success on that champion. I think Kai'Sa can be a trap champion in low elo.

Morning from Hilo, HI! Hey Curtis I would say for jungle beginner with easy references are like Xin, Warwick, Amumu, Nocturne or maybe Kha'zix if you wanted to try assassins, Fiddlesticks if you wanted an ap jungler. Xin is an early game jungler with a simple combo and a simple build path with the same kind of playstyle of reksai of ok i wanna do things early because my kit allows me to do so but i think he has more of a cushion for failure. Warwick's W passive lets you see who's low which starts to teach you to look at the mini map or lanes to rotate or capitalize on skirmishes or lanes that over stay which can then easily transfer over to other junglers. Plus his ult lets you as a new player understand an important concept of threat assessment. Amumu teaches you how to peel/engage as a tank from the jungle role but can still clear well enough. Forgiving cc ability in the Q which can teach you how to hit skill shots, AOE ult that has a big radius so it's less you as a player have to worry about. Thanks for another insightful vid!

Your opinion on champion complexity is very interesting and I can see where you're coming from. In my opinion, champion complexity is not related to how simple the ability is, but rather is tied to the mastery curve. A champion like Annie is great for beginners because it only takes a few games to hit the "peak" of your mastery curve on the champion, which lets you use that mental space for other more important aspects, like knowing when to ward. It essentially becomes mental blank space very quickly, like freeing up RAM space to be used elsewhere.

at 27:00 when talking about how long League is, this is similar to rocket league imo. Most the good players in Rocket league have been playing for many years, like 5 years, the new players that start always try to get to the high ranks fast and don't respect that it takes thousands of hours to do so.

My usual response to "do you want to duo?" is to say something along the lines of "Nah, duoq matchmaking is cursed because riot makes the game harder to account for the duo. Also, it's easier to improve and focus on gameplay in soloq." The first reason is objectively true, and it makes it clear that the refusal isn't about the person but rather duoq as a whole. I'm able to slide in the second reason as well to be completely honest about it.

It doesn't matter though. You will be against bots more often than you will have bots on your team. (there are 9 other players who could be a bot and 4/9 are on your team while 5/9 are on the other team)

I get its a joke in the beginning but riot literally made changes to their matchmaking last patch or the one before lol.. and its been better xD but i agree the guy prob doesnt fully understand the matchmaking. Sadly even if he doesnt fully understand it, the point of matchmaking making a difference in your climb/winrate is true. in my personal findings it made around 4-5% wr difference. Thats not even maining a single champion either.
