The budget of the original was 1 million dollars and the remake was 18 million but it somewhat was worse than the original

John Carpenter and Debra Hill...Cinematography by Dean Cundey.....Production Designer Tommy Lee Wallace...all geniuses.
The only thing that the 2005 film had going for it is when the ghost ship passes by the Sea Grass. In the 1980 film, we only see the ship itself. In the 2005 film, we can actually see a few ghosts on the ship when it passes by. I also liked the scene with the ghost trying to break into Andy's room in both films. But, personally, I loved the 1980 original film much more than its remake. My opinion.

Funny, that’s actually, for whatever reason, my favorite scene in the 2005 version too. When the ghost breaks into Andy’s room. It’s OK in the original as well, but I feel like Tom Welling and the kid sell the fear factor a little better.

John Carpenter is amazing! Great job, Matt!
Of all the great films out there and their inferior remakes, The Fog has probably the biggest difference in quality between the two.

I had never seen this before but your video is excellent!!! Thanks for the hard work!
The 2005 version was like they used a bunch of high school kids for the movie's characters.

Yeah, the 2005 remake was all the worst aspects of 2000s Horror Movies. Everyone's too damn young! You can tell the influence of the "Scream" films was still in full effect at the time.
I have absolutely loved the original for years. I never saw it in the theatres sadly, but I saw it on VHS in the mid 80's. The remake was a horrid let down. The only thing I can give it a bit of credit for is that it does give a little more of the back story. But the mood, music, cast and direction style of the original just can't be topped.
I think the less is more approach is something that should have been kept or just not remaking an already perfect ghost story Not revealing the ghosts completely, keeping the mystery of the back story and using the fog itself, the time it was released benefitted it also The remake was just not good, it was coming off the back of them early 2000’s slashers/horrors which included a fair few remakes that were just bombing in cinema. You either loved them or hated them - I hated this one
Now you know why Rob Zombie Halloween was not a shot for shot remake it was longer different and more story driven. John Carpenters original is still the best and can’t be touched but Robs remake offered a different take and a new spin it was not a complete copy-cat this movie tried that and failed HARD! Also Robs film is the only Halloween movie to take place in a span of 17 years seeing Michael for several days, weeks, months and years all four seasons Fall,Winter,Spring,Summer. The other Halloween movies take place in a span of two days or just one day.
No matter which film you like the story of vengeance being fulfilled remains the same. Always felt bad for the folks on the island who didn't know that the islands wealth was built on lies but I loved that the sailors kicked ass with no remorse!
Never seen such a divided movie
John Carptenter's film was so much more intense. AND the fog generated on the set by the effects people and lit by the brilliant cinematographer, Dean Cundey was far more effective than what appeared in the remake. Carpenter's film will continue to be the one remembered, not the remake.
I feel like the whole remake movie was ruined just by that one scene where the ghost breaks into the kid's room & honks like a squeaky paper horn 😂😂
The only good things about the remake were the special effects and make up on the ghosts.

no. 1980 version or GTFO
So, you got a remake that is essentially the same just with more peng-pong-boink-zoink and a city run by 23year old. hmm ... Photography looks great in both films, different time, different look. Where JCs version is simple creating true fear, RWs version makes everything glow and explode rendering the suspense laugheble. And of course ... American Flag. Because that's important. And of course someone has to be tied to someone because, yes. Makes the story that much more interesting and thoughtful, because, yes. Lots of chliches unnesassarily squeezed into a classic film.

Great job with the remake I love how they dove deeper into the people of the Elizabeth Dane and how the descendants of the founding fathers were targeted and the story if Elizabeths resurrection and return to her true love I really enjoyed the artifacts appearing on the beach and especially the story of the town in the photos I’m a fan of the classic and the remake
I still don’t understand why the guy (I’m assuming he was supposed to be dead?) got up momentarily and almost stabbed her or something? Maybe I wasn’t paying good enough attention?
After seeing you posted two Carpenter movies in a row at THIS particular time, I have a suspicion you’re a fan of the podcast Blank Check. Amirite?

I actually don't mind the remake because I didn't expect a lot from it before seeing it,but as far as remakes go I've seen worse.
The music makes the 1980 fog a lot scarier and the pirates. The are more scary when they don’t talk. 2005 version is too cheesy.

The good things about the remake was the angle of making the girl not only a descendant of one of the killers but also, perhaps, the descendant of Blake, so once Blake found his long-lost love again - his soul and the others could be at peace, and some of the makeup and new ways the spirits got their revenge.
