The Fog is a 1980 horror film directed by John Carpenter, who also co-wrote the screenplay and composed the music for the film. It stars Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis, Tom Atkins and Janet Leigh. It tells the story of a strange, glowing fog that sweeps in over a small coastal town in California, bringing with it the vengeful ghosts of mariners who were killed in a shipwreck there exactly 100 years earlier.
The picture was filmed from April 1979 to May 1979 at Raleigh Studios in Hollywood, California (interior scenes) and on location at Point Reyes, California, Bolinas, California, Inverness, California, and the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Sierra Madre, California).

100% agree. Still watch it from time-to-time. Classic.
I lived on the historic B ranch, within minutes of the light house. That area is desolate and utterly beautiful. It is still my favorite place in the world, with the exception of the people. Drakes beach was walking distance from the ranch and that's where Andy was on the beach. That is the most beautiful, pristine and deserted beach I know of in the world. Thank you Herve for the great video. I hope you decide to do more videos one day, as they are truly great works.

What's wrong with the people? LoL..seriously, I'd like to know as I want to spend a little time there soon.
This was great but it makes me want to see the whole movie again. Thanks for doing a split screen.
One of my favorite movies, shame on the remake.

I agree on both points! The remake was garbage of the highest order. A complete slap in the face to the amazing original.
what a classic and coming from good old northern Ireland I watched this as a kid and still watch it today so haunting.

Speechless! What an amazing job!
I liked how you superimposed yourself behind Adrienne.
What a great trip that must have been! Good job. One of my favorite Carpenter films and when I visited NoCal I couldn't help but think about this film. The scenery is so important to this film.
Love this ❤️ What a beautiful location. Goosebumps 🙌

Pleas take IT easy
I've seen this many times before, but since the film is celebrating it's 40th anniversary this year, I wanted to. You did a great job with this, man! I do have to add, your improvisation during the scene where Andy's bedroom door is being broken down made burst into laughter "Don't break the door! I have a deposit, I'm renting!" That literally sounds like a line somebody would say in an actual horror comedy flick!
Good work! I have visited two times the Lighthouse at the Point Reyes and had listen the soundtrack of the movie with the headphone.
probably THE most atmospheric movie ever made .. for a fan like me, this is just great !!I was afraid this fan tribute would ruin the mystery of the movie ... but no, this is just amazing !!nice job ! thank you..

The coziest horror movie ever.
Pretty impressive you were able to get the owners of Mrs. Kobritz's house let you in and record their belongings. When my wife and I went to San Francisco on vacation last year we had to drive up to see the lighthouse, and just happened to see Mrs. Kobritz's house along the way! Didn't have the guts to do more than just take a picture from the end of the driveway.

Grumpy Cat Point Reyes National Seashore by Inverness, CA. Beautiful drive up highway 1.
Herve - 07:41 is the most profound comparison for me. It's identical, if only for the growth of the trees over 30 plus years. The video was 2012 , so it's probably virtually the same in 2016. this was a lot of work and professionally done. Thank you. BTW, it's a beautiful part of the coast and seems just as unoccupied as it was back in 1979. beautiful shots. so reminiscent of 'The Birds" too. the location must have been Carpenter's inspiration. it's a good one.

It must have been a lot of work finding all those locations. I have to say I’m very jealous. Hope to make it there someday. Excellent job. I enjoyed every bit of it.

Great job - Point Reyes is one of my favorite places to go for a day trip. I always think of The Fog when I travel through Inverness, the Point Reyes peninsula, and Point Reyes Station. They are beautiful locations - yet there does seem to be something strangely eerie out there that you just can't put your finger on!
Well done. I enjoyed this very much. Some call Halloween Carpenter’s masterpiece, and while it’s undeniably a great film, I actually prefer this - for its atmosphere.
the mere fact that this was filmed almost 10 years ago makes me fucking shed a tear........love this shit.....thank you......
cheers for posting this, fog is one my favorite 80s films.
Superb work Herve , very impressive how you show then and now on split screen, enjoyed it immensely, the fog is one my favorite films, love the work by john carpenter
I just realized, the guy in the church at the stairs in the very beginning is John Carpenter {with long hair} turning off all the lights.

Yes, and John's co-writer and producer on the film, Debra Hill, was an uncredited extra as well. - Brian McFadden, author "The Real Woman Behind Halloween," Debra Hill.
This was such a great idea, love this old movie from the past
Epic work!!! John always had a way of making a film look bigger than it was with his angles
I think I was about 8 years old when this movie came out...it's still a great movie. Congratulations on this nice compare & contrast with the movie clips and on how the locations looked in current times in April 2012. Now 2020, I'm sure not much has changed in the scenery. I'm a southern California native & have always lived here. I've always wanted to take a long drive all along the California coast to sight see all the Spanish Mission constructed by the Conquistadors. Now I will add onto my sight seeing trip, a visit to as many light houses as I could possibly visit all along the California coast. A driving trip that I'm saving for my 1989 Mustang 5.0 convertible, all black on black minus the ridiculous red stripe around the bump guards, on a newly rebuilt engine that should finish this coming weekend.
Wow....this town has not changed or built practically anything in 35 years

what I love about films like these is you never see a douchebag on a cell phone. I swear to God Society has been ruined by cell phones. John Carpenter is a master, one of the best scenes was when the camera pans up and shows the dark Shore with the sound of the Wind. John Carpenter is a details guy, awesome movie

My son and I love this place and visit every year. John told me that he still has his property in Inverness, but that it burned down in 95. As it put to me "paradise" Greetings from West Marin John, if you see this.
Work of art 👍🏻 .
Just awesome. Well done. Love this movie. Good to see nearly all places are still like in the movie. Would really like to live in that Lighthouse.
...Your Work IS AWESOME Herve.!!
I was just at most of these locations in Point Reyes, Inverness, and Bodega Bay a few days ago on April 21st. The comparisons are so spot on, and it was amazing to see inside of Stevie Wayne's house after it's been remodeled a bit.
Was recently in Point Reyes and was not aware some of The Fog was filmed there. Thanks for making your video and your awesome sense of humor.
i respect your dedication to lining up all of the shots!! awesome job
Excellent video, well done
My favorite horror movie. Incredible video,..I enjoyed every second of it!
This is actually kinda amazing. Nice work.
One of the best movie made. John Carpenter is awesome!
Awesome... love this movie and seeing the locations in modern day is so cool. Carpenter ROCKS.
For a film-geek like me, I can't tell you how awesome this is!! :D
Awesome. The Fog is one of my favorite horror movies.
A lot of hard work went into this and it's fascinating considering I was a huge fan of this movie since I was a kid and now can't wait to watch the movie again.
I been in West marin and point reyes 30 years and this is awesome!!!! watched the fog like 100 times at least. u the man!
Love this film! Could you do "Ghost Story" 1981?
your videos are amazing sir. and thanks for doing this on the 32nd anniversary of the release of the FOG
Absolutely amazing!! Congratulations on your work are wonderful! Thanks from Italy!
Wow,some of these locations have hardly changed at all...great.
Great job Herve!! You made this both enjoyable and quite humorous...👍👍👍
This movie terrified me as a kid!
GREAT GREAT video. Thanks for taking the time and show us fans what things looks like and how very little it has changed. Cheers!
Excellent work, really!!! I wish I could be there. Absolutely great. For something like this, KZread was made. I wish I could give 500 thumbs up! Greetings from Germany :)
One of my favorite Carpenter movies and a fantastic video, well done.
very well done, my siblings and I grew up loving this film! I'm sharing this with them all! Thanks so much
I agree with anyone who thinks this is a very very underrated movie. It is my favorite horror film. I watch it every Halloween night. I also live not too far from the lighthouse. This is just a few miles South of where Hitchcock's "The Birds" was filmed.
One of my faves!! Glad to see location shots.
easily the best subscription on youtube. outstanding research and execution. love every film.

one the most iconic movies all time, I like the ingenious idea to film the current an old locations, some 80's locations looks more modern tha 30 years on the future
What timing! I just caught this again on NetFlix!! Thank you, Herve.
"Don't break the door, I have a deposit!" Still the best Fog filming location video on youtube.
This is incredible! Thank you so much for creating it and sharing with us!
Great job finding all these locations. Well done
The views are still Breath Taking!!!
Superb video! Bravo for lining up the exact filming spots. Would be nice to visit this town one day. Thank you. Hope you didn't lose your deposit on the dasha, those ghost pirates can really be annoying!!
As always,...great work Herve...
Fabulous work Herve.
Just watched this again (one of my faves!!) - and then found this. Excellent! Somebody should do something like this for every movie that has nice location photography. Like the Hitchcock movies filmed in the same areas.
Very Cool! I always wondered how 'modernized' the area became, I'm glad to see those gorgeous roads and sights arent filled with condos.
ABSOLUTELY, 100%, GREAT !!!!!! MY MOST FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME.....THANKS, FISH
This is very well made! I enjoyed it very much, thank you so much for making it!😊
Movie was filmed in the area of Point Reyes north of SAN Francisco. I was there last year and yes.....those stairs are tough especially when walking back from the light house. One even has to walk about a half mile just to get to those steps from the car parking areas. It's all a protected area too. No public access without permission.
This was one of the first horror films I watched as a child. My mum had it on VHS. Awesome to see how the place has barely changed.
All I can say is Adrienne Barbeau.Fucking A!!

Thanks that was a fun memory. I grow up in that area and never knew it was filmed locally.
I'm coming out to the San Francisco area in September for vacation, I'm planning on camping and hiking in that area, I'll definitely have to visit the lighthouse and some of the other locations. Great horror film, nobody created an atmosphere for a movie like Carpenter.
Well done sir!
I love it! Thank you for this gem!
Makes me want to watch the film, again! Great Work!!!
Thank you Herve. That was an awesome video 😃
Beautiful location, thanks for taking the time to post this! Didn't Carpenter mention he used to have a house in that area?
Fantastic job! Amazing you were able to track down, and get access to so many of these places. And the way you edited this together with sounds and music from the film were superb.
