2006 Damion looks evil from the get go, so no surprise that he is the Antichrist. But 1976 Damion has an angelic face with a hint of something that is not quite right. And the original soundtrack is beyond terrifying and when you hear it, you know where it is from.

As far as remakes go , it was a fair attempt, with some genuinely scary and effective visuals, but the original 1976 version is a cinematic Horror masterpiece. It is riveting and atmospheric from the start , and the creepy music score gives it a menace and frightening unsettling feel to it, the a genuine feel of evil in its depiction of the anti-christ and it's is so eerie and scary. ...........Classic

True, you can tell just by looking at the scene where they open the grave of Damien's mother. In the scene in the 1976 version, the background is dark with the chilling chorus music adding to the dark, eerie atmosphere that befits a horror film. After they look into the grave, before you even see what's inside, you see Thorn make a sound that shows disgust while the photographer turns his head away closing his eyes saying to himself "My god." Their reactions alone send the message that they just saw something both shocking and horrifying. 2006 version, the scene is well-lit with a blue background, no background music which isn't always bad and after they open the grave, their reactions are pretty restrained with photographer saying "What the fuck is this?" He sounds more confused than shocked while Thorn seems pretty stoic. In the older version, it added a level of terror to the film. In the newer version, it felt like a one-off as one would think that Thorn would at least show some shock or horror given it's made clear just how unnatural Damien's birth was: a jackal conceiving and birthing a human child is impossible, sending the message that Damien's birth was of divine (or rather anti-divine) or supernatural intervention.

I find it interesting how so many people decide that the stories can't be told again. The 76 Omen is not the end all be all story or the Omen, and it had some good moments, but I personally love the nod of having Rosemary as the nanny, and the scene where she is feeding him strawberries is beautiful. I think the remake is a bit more subtle in some instances, and then more intense in the right places. Though I typically don't enjoy 70s horror that much.

The priest impalement and the photographer's decapitation were better done in the remake - improvements in special effects. When Warner's photographer is beheaded there is little or no blood, although some red paint pots jump in the air as a sort of substitute. Mia Farrow was probably the ideal choice for a remake version of Mrs Baylock, but generally there was no way to improve the 1976 version.

the shot was over to quick in the original the shot lasted 5 seconds because the director knew people look away for 3 seconds
The only scene in which the 2006 film wins is the death of the priest, it was more realistic, but it is due to the special effects technology that already existed in 2006. The beheading of the photographer, both scenes, both the 1976 and the 2006 were majestic.
@AnytingGoes

Not in the unrated version, the priest death is longer and its now much more fake looking. It held on his face showing shards of glass that fell and looks totally plastic now. A classic case of less-is-more, they ruined the scene due to using more cgi gore.
Wonderful comparison, perfectly edited. I really enjoyed this, thank you very much. Christ, how I love this music! :)
1976 original is epic and just incomparable with regards to its finest stellar casts, script, legendry music and scenes is way more scarier and freaks the life out of you !! That was the most chilling and creepiest looking nanny in our lifetime !!
I JUST watched both back to back. 1976 last night, and 2006 just now. Loved them both, and read that the newer one was almost shot-for-shot like the original. Have to say I loved them both, but probably the 2006 version even better just from the quality of the filmmaking plus Mia Farrow's awesome performance! I liked the little changes too. I don't like the idea of adding anything new unless something was OBVIOUSLY missing from the original, or something could have been done better. For instance, I looked at the documentary on The Exorcist yesterday and the omission of the spider walk was discussed. It's a shame it wasn't in the movie, as creepy as it is. The director said he didn't know how to make the scene flow smoothly from the mother's reaction upon hearing the news about Burke's death and then a few seconds later react to seeing Reagan spider walk down the stairs.I never liked the way she reacted to Burke's death. It always seemed too fake; overdramatic. Anyway, the producer said he should have let her hear the news of Burke's death and then IMMEDIATELY before she even had a chance to react to Burke's death, she sees Reagan spider walk down the stairs. At any rate, I prefer not to have remakes. Often times, the modern technology totally takes away from the authenticity of the movies. I don't want to see digital props on screen.

I think I prefer the cinematography, locations and sets of the original, but I preferred Julia Stiles to Lee Remick, and I thought Mia Farrow was amazing as Mrs Baylock. Kid In Remake Act Like He Knew He Already Not Human
1976 rules!!! 2006 ... one more film.
Instead of making a remake they should have just re released the original one!! The casting of 1976 film was just spot on.. Even the kid looked like an angel and a devil child at the same..
The fact that David Warner and David Thewlis look alike the casting team made a perfect job!
With this soundtrack I'm already spooked
*Look at me, Damien! It’s all for u!*
Why do the Hollywood suits think shot for shot remakes are automatically going to be successful? The cast is amazing but they deserved a better film to work on!
Playing this at 2.0 speed is gold. LOL.
There are a lot of differences between the original movie and the 2006 version. The Omen was a masterpiece because of his director: Richard Donner. I think no one can argue that. Another difference was the soundtrack. The original movie is a movie with an entirely beautiful soundtrack. Jerry Goldsmith, the amazing American composer, collaborated with Donner. I could continue: For example, Gilbert Taylor made the difference, too. Taylor was his director of photography. That cinematographer worked for Hitchcock, Kubrick, George Lucas - Taylor was Star Wars cinematographer - . Well, that's all for today.
Some of the editing during the 2000's really messed up some really good movies. I have noticed they added some preset/filter that made the movies look so unrealistic.

That was fucking great! I didn’t think the kid in the first one could be any creepier but then they found the kid for the remake.
The original one 1976 was remake in Tamil language as Jenma Nakshatram in 1977. In that they elaborate many scenes. When he take Damien to church for kill the nanny in tamil remake she was have many fight scene with hero. That is so interesting n spooky at end of her death she chasing them while burn alive when he drive the car church scene. Tamil version Damien name changed as Xavier
I personally thought that the 2006 Damien was actually the anti-Christ. His emotions and facial features were just chilling for a child
