On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

I knew that these flankers, even though they have great nose authority, that differential thrust would work great in these.. I feel like though if not used as last resort could result in situations you didn’t intend to get yourself in. All around great video bud, thank you!
This proves that even with excellent thrust (differential or vectored) that every aircraft is limited by how much air you can push the wing though to maintain lift.

Moving the point of the 'centre of thrust' to either side of the jet when flying at a high AoA or low speed can help it move in ways that it couldn't with central thrust. It's helpful when trying to roll in particular
@jackhall290
Жыл бұрын
It's a pretty simple concept. Imagine a box in front of you, if you take two equal length sticks and put even and simetrical pressure pushing the block forward the block moves in a straight line, if you remove one stick and pressure but maintain the same points of contact (IE one remaining point that is off-center) the block will turn/pivot. In the sky with a plane the same principles are being performed, you're losing some thrust but that isn't as key in low speed dogfighting as positioning is. you're offsetting the balance of the thrust making a sharper turn than typical while slowing your rate speed. As long as you maintain the energy of the aircraft and respect its stall speeds you can theoretically turn (or in most cases roll over the top of because gravity is helping you maintain energy and rate speed) inside your bandits circle pointing your nose at them opening up a solution for guns/missiles. The splitting the thrust is less effective in planes like a eurofighter or mirage or f18 because the engines are very close to the center line of the aircraft. However on a flanker or f14 they are quite far off center and the

I’m honestly wondering if after that first time whipping around If the hornet went for it, did a pirouette then yanked the nose up for a fox 2 snap shot if it would have worked. Cuz the hornet has all the AOA and rudder authority you need if you wanna think outside the box there, it’s just nobody thinks of it because it leaves you in a low energy state which is usually a death sentence.

That is false, aerodynamic forces can be far greater than thrust if enough speed is attained. But easy proof for this is that Thrust to weight ratio is not greater than 1.2 in max thrust configuration. The lift to weight ratio is 1 in horizontal and symmetric flight. And when you start pulling 7 G's which means a lift to weight ratio of 7 (assuming the lift vector is fully used for the turn thus altitude is lost). So, no aerodynamic forces can be a lot more abrupt, just think of a cobra maneuver, the amount of energy lost in mere seconds is insane. The engine takes a while regaining this energy.

are split throttle maneuvers viable to do in the hornet or would it just be a waste because the engines are stacked side by side? I never split my throttle but now i want to learn it
it was common in the amercian navy to use split throttles during things like formation so I wonder how it'd feel in a fight
