On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

    The F-14 absolutely could still be relevant. It did, however, have some glaring issues that would be a major problem in modern combat. The big one is that it's turbine fans were exposed to radar from the front. That gave it the RCS of a small moon. I am not sure if there would be a way to fix that via upgrades. However, a revised new build F-14, similar to the F-15 EX, would have been an absolute monster. With a few changes to get it's RCS down to a managable level and get it's maintenance need under control, it could leverage it's biggest asset. The F-14 had an absolutely monstrous radar unit. If I am not mistaken, it carried the largest radar ever mounted on a fighter. Put an equally huge AESA unit in there and an F-14 could see you from the next continent. Enemies would think an Aegis ship locked them up. That, and with modern engines it would have had unparalleled endurance.

    By the engine, i think you'r referring to its intake design. Well, even w/ limited stealth technology achievement, Russia pretty confident w/ their SU57. With US technology, such as YF23's, i believe they could come out w/ solution. You know both Felon & Black Widow's main fuselage have lot of similarities in design w/ F14's especially regarding its engine's & intake's. The biggest problem for RCS thing, i believe will be w/ its VG. But w/ more compact & newer advance digital equipments, we can save space on the F14's for more avionics such as EW equipment, specifically for radar jamming from Growler.

    The F-14 was being used as a 'part time' dog fighter instead of the interception platform that it was designed to operate as... Had it have received the F100 FDE engines of the F15, and stealth tech on the body it would have been a very significant fighter, even today!

  • @PhycoKrusk

    @PhycoKrusk

    Stealth tech would not have made a significant difference to its RCS; the plane is just too damn big. However, if the F-14D could have been given F-15 engines and an F-15 radar, it would be have quite impressive.

    No stealth for F-14 LMAO🤣 it's like saying the Superhornet is stealth, it's not stealth far from it. F/A-18F can be detected by 4.5gen X band radars around 50 miles and those same fighters have a hard time locking up a 5th gen F-35 in a dogfight, that's how big the difference is. 4 and 4.5 gen aircraft cannot be given stealth, it has to be designed and manufactured into it from the beginning to be stealth.

    You need to eliminate and redesign the entire wing and body section to bring down any significant saving from a maintenance perspective. At that point, you might as well redesign the whole thing all together. It is kinda like f16 and f21. The internal is change so much the entire craft is practically reengineered and rebuild from the ground up. I don't know the engineering challenges and compromises needed to make in order to fit 2 person into a navy fighter, it likely is great enough the navy decided it is a good idea to trade some capability per aircraft for it.
