You really gotta give it to Sly, he did do different things back in the day, and play around with concepts like arm wrestling. What a legend.

I always respect his willingness to try something different. When it came to movies, Sly forged his own path. If he hadn't, he wouldn't be a big name today with Arnold Schwarzenegger or Tom Cruise.

I totally agree, Bull Hurley was my hero since I was a child, I wanted to be like him, I don't understand why Lincoln Hawk is the "hero" of the movie, he is a coward, a bad father, without self-esteem and his son hates him, Bull is instead a champion proud, undefeated multi champion, assertive that always goes forward, I assure you that his son is proud of him
Everything that I feel about life came from this scene.
I went and saw this movie at the theater in early 87 I still love this movie today, I feel this movie deserved a sequel, I read that Rick zumwalt the Big guy who was Bull hurley died in 2003 it's a major drag that there are so many that are gone

In Rocky from zero he went directly against the world champion and almost won. Here he was a perfect no one and won against the champion. In Rambo he was a technician and sent to Vietnam becoming the best soldier. Stallone loves to portray the loser that from zero becomes the best

@@ravedisc indeed he really is, and he deserves the success he’s got. However, you cannot call yourself “Italian” just because your last name ends with a vowel. Italians are those that speak Italian among themselves. There are 3 generations Americans with Italian roots that in the house speak Italian. To me that means to be Italian. They follow traditions and know about our culture. Sly doesn’t. Great actor, but American, not Italian.

The most dramatic arm wrestling match in history
The movie that make famous the arm wrestling!!!!!!
I wonder how many guys in their 60's and 70's have a rotator cuff injury or a wrist injury for life after watching this movie.
After watching ArmWrestlingTV and Alex Toproll for a couple of years, this seems highly comical compared to how real arm wrestling is conducted and the general utter respect the competitors have for one another - not one wrestler would dream of deliberately hurting one another, they are like a family a brotherhood. But the movie was a good father son tale... One last thing... the scene was over the top cool.... but that's 1-0, still another 5 rounds to go :P
