There used to be a statue of Rocky at the top of those steps (Philadelphia Art Institute), it was moved because so many people went there to see it and not the art inside. I was lucky enough to get my picture taken next to it.

Right there with ya. I grew up in Philly and still live here. The very last part of the credits of Rocky Balboa where he’s looking out over Philly with the snow falling makes me cry for a hundred reasons. But Rocky IV was the only one I saw in the theater, and the one that I always loved most for the training scenes. … Well, except for the infamous climb up the Art Museum steps. They are inspirational and wonderful movies.

I love the contrast between Rocky and Drago with this. Drago is surrounded by computers and scientists. It’s artificial. Everything he does is a simulation of the real thing. But Rocky does it for real. This peaks with Rocky climbing the mountain and Drago on the treadmill incline. Rocky finished with a victory. He beats the mountain. He climbs until there is no more mountain left to climb. But you never finish a treadmill. So there’s no victory. Instead, you run until you are too tired. So while Rocky ends when he wins, Drago ends when he quits. And it’s like this with everything. Each exercise we see Rocky do with real objects, Drago has a parallel with fancy high tech equipment. The only thing Drago has the Rocky doesn’t have is the drugs. Drago’s PEDs don’t have an obvious parallel with Rocky. But I think Rocky’s match for it is Adrian. Real human connection, his relationship with Adrien is what drives him and gives him the extra boost. Love beats Drago’s steroids.

  • @billykepner4938

@@AlexE5250I didn’t realize it until rewatching this montage but seeing drago stop on the treadmill while watching Rocky continue to run up the mountain should have been foreshadowing for how Rocky would outlast him in the ring.

There were a lot of Socialists (We called them "Communists" back then) who were cheering for the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Yeah, it was crazy when American Hollywood Commies gave this soundtrack their middle finger. But their selections were always so egregiously zany that I think "awarding" Rocky 4 was teh straw that broke the camel's back - and they abolished the awarding council - so the award no longer exists. Take heart; the Raspeberry award's demise is actually just more proof that Rocky 4's soundtrack is one of THE best ever.

One of the deeper messages Sly intended to convey with all this was the unbreakable grit, drive, and tenacity Rocky had. He didn't have all the top science and technology and team of coaches at his fingertips. He just had passion, determination, and heart. And that was what allowed him to defeat Ivan Drago. It wasn't about how hard he could hit. It was about how much he could take and keep moving forward, never giving up. It's a great metaphor for life.

  • @isaiahangelo

GuppyPal it was also the parallel that Rocky Balboa, at his core, always trained like an old school boxer because those methods worked. I always felt that Drago was trained to be a killing machine. To end fights quickly, but like Apollo, nobody took him the distance. He never had his metal tested. Rocky was used to going 15 rounds. When he cut Drago, then he became the unbreakable iron as Drago described him. He broke Drago's spirit and thus took his heart. No matter how many punches Drago threw Rocky kept coming even after being knocked down.

The difference was that he wasn’t taking steroids ( lol in real life he was though..) rocky just didn’t need or want the technology, even if he could have easily had it. it wasn’t his way to train

What I find fascinating about this whole sequence, aside from what others have mentioned about Drago's training using high-tech and government sponsorship, while Rocky is sticking to the humble (if still fierce and harsh) outdoors, is how everyone is helping Drago, but Rocky is helping other people; an American helping the Russian commonfolk with various tasks, showing that spirit of harmony, even between Cold War nations.

Students study hard and you easily steal their ideas from their brains. Sounds like a good deal. Fighting for freedom. New slavery. It is my responsibility. I thought everyone should know. We are imprisoned in a place whose slogan was freedom. Don't travel to the USA. Never even for a short time. If you have any special knowledge or skills or an invention, they will steal it from your mind. The US government initially used this method to identify people who intended to harm the United States. But today, they use it for many purposes, including stealing information from people, stealing data from people's minds. And many celebrities like Taylor Swift and Harry Styles are helping to lure the US government. They'll see whatever you see. You'll never have privacy even with your wife or girlfriend. They'll see whatever you think. When Taylor Swift said I use my best colors for your portrait, she meant it's one of the newest things they're using. Or when she said, "Touch me, and you'll never be alone." Your silence would help them to do it again and again. They said, don't say anything because of The USA. I want to take her to court. They wanted to pay me $1,000,000, but that was not what I asked from them. Those are not only songhe (Taylor Swift) likes A writer of crime stories whose stories are authentic and have committed all the murders. Taylor Adolf Hitler, the Humans, are not your laboratory mice. I was used as a laboratory mouse to test new products. Sometimes what we hear are like warning lights to prevent accidents. Events that the causes of those events are not afraid of repeating them, but they are happy. And they sat waiting for the right time. Let's not ignore what we hear. Incredible fight montage and Rocky 4 was about pure heart and determination, avenging his fallen brother in Creed was just the tip of the iceberg. As Rocky felt guilt for not throwing in the towel that type of guilt weighs heavy on the heart and soul and his true strength shines through by not giving into his feelings of hate and anger but using them as weapons to become stronger.

I also agree that Rocky 4 is the best rocky movie. I have watched all 5 Rocky movies( Including the 6th one which is named Rocky Balboa) and I have to say Rocky 4 stood out to me. Rocky 4 might have been well received had Stallone not made the fifth Rocky. It felt like Rocky 4 was supposed to be the last movie. It had every montage from Rocky to Rocky 3. Killing off Apollo would have made sense. Making Dolph the perfect villain in which everyone hated him. To be honest, I didn't see any political stuff other than Russia. I thought the movie was about not only Rocky avenging Apollo's death but to also change the perspective on Americans and that no matter what, you can change who you are. This is true when Russia fans started chanting for Rocky. They turned on Drago. I agree its the best soundtrack ever.

When I first watched this as a kid, I always thought Drago was superhuman until Rocky beat him. But then as I got older, I realized what the needle was about during this scene. Therefore, my thoughts about Drago being superhuman went out the window.

I’m 18 years old and truly blessed my mother sat me down and introduced me to the Rocky movies when i was 6 years olds and then later that year Rocky Balboa (rocky 6) came out and i was so excited to see that. These movies are very inspirational and i feel everybody on earth should watch the series. Very very helpful and important. The whole series is a classic

Hahaha no ordinary person can do this kind of intense physical training. I'm into martial arts and my old karate teacher used to tell me that boxers may have fewer moves but they can still easily beat up karate guys because they've been trained to take a lot of physical punishment.
