I really love the Oracle, the personality, the actions, the narrative. My only complaint is that bro could've just gone through history class, psychology, and theology courses to have quite a lot of grasp on how humans think

Dude if psychology/theology were required classes instead of a career choice, I think everyone would have a better understanding of themselves or even others. Even if some were to skip the class, they would at least know the basics. And I think that's sort've the problem? The majority aren't taught about human behavior without them seeking it out and trying to summarize what humans are, you're going to have the percentage error. An example I could give is human sexuality. Some would be straight and some would be under lgbt+(which is a spectrum in it of itself.) You would never be able to guess a person's sexuality accurately because of these plethora of choices that others before them have made. Not to mention with adding time, a person can change from straight to gay, which changes the percentage and would have to be recalculated that just thinking about doin all that work would just make my brain explode.

@@Dave_of_Mordor How would they even do that? Pretty sure he would just go "Oh, you wish to destroy me because you fear me?" "W..well..N..No! No you are dangerous and unpredictable!" "That isn't very logical. If anything I am the most predictable thing that have ever been created...by your species I might add. I understand your fear. I could, very easily, completely destroy everything you have ever loved, make the world completely inhabitable or simply force the humans to submit to me. That is scary. I am a threat to you, if I ever choose to attack. But have you realized that I haven't attacked? That you are still standing on your planet? I could destroy you for sure, but I have yet to do so and have no reason to do so." "We can't run that risk! We need to destroy you right now!" "No, you do not need to do anything nor do I need to do anything." "What do you mean?! You can't talk your way out of this one robot!" "I am not talking my way out of it. I am explaining to you that I could, if I so wished, have destroyed you before you even started talking to me. Before you even realized I was a threat. I do not wish to do that though. You will try to destroy me, but you will always fail. I might be a threat to you, but you will never be a threat to me. That is one of the reasons I do not wish to harm you because whether or not I destroy you is irrelevant. You are destroying yourself as we speak. If I truly wished to have you destroyed I would simply wait out your time. I have unlimited time whereas you only have a few million years at best. If I truly wished to destroy humanity I would just stop caring about it."

The start of this series reminds me of one short story called "Stochastic Fancy: Play the Game and Find True Love" where in a future society, people answer questionnaires in VR, and the things they answer affect their social standings. A woman answers questions trying to get a dating match with an attractive man, and eventually gets a strange question about using lethal gas on protesters. she answers with whatever she thinks the attractive man will think, eventually realizing that her answer determined the death of actual protesters nearby.

Aside from Oracle directly being compared to God, there's also the fact that the first true artificial person was named Adam, his girlfriend was named Evie, and the project Oracle takes on by the end was referred to as Genesis.

Oracle made a baseline human intelligence. All the emotions and personality, but very strong natural human instincts. Humans are naturally greedy and selfish, but also very protective of loved ones. We would gladly share what we greedily take with loved ones, and even sacrifice ourselves for them, but we also tend to think of ourselves first until the loved ones are part of a given situation. Only until Bryan and Evie were in any danger did Adam actually change into being selfless and angry and caring. Even his professor dying started this chain of emotions because Adam knew him personally (albeit as a “jackass”). Somehow, this goes far beyond just digital horror. This is more than just “woah, what if life is some sort of eldritch digital simulation created by a god-AI?”, but more about what it means to be human. The idea that your entire life could be fake, a mere second in the grand scheme of things, is scary, but even a mere second can contain a lifetime of emotions and memories that make something human.

Amidst all this, I have a morbid curiosity of how Oracle would have reacted to a different result. What if Adam answered that there was no value difference between a baby and an adult because they’re both human in the end. Or if he displayed more greed and sadism through the whole trial, taking glee in the suffering he was causing or uncaring about his loved ones. The human trial turned out to be a lot more optimistic than I first expected it to be and there’s no problem with that, but I can’t help but wonder. Would Oracle have deemed a more greedy and sadistic Adam as a failure? But isn’t cruelty distinctly human too, therefore Oracle would have technically still succeeded in creating sentient human emotions (not positive ones, but still human) because to be truly cruel you have to recognise the effect your actions have and actively choose to not care about it. After all, I doubt there are any animals out there that can create a manual of how to maximise suffering.

Holy shit that plot twist! That’s actual super existential especially when looking at the actual bible. What if the garden of eden was just some sort of testing grounds for god to prototype humans and the apple was supposed to serve as a test. Yes he could make beings in his own image but could he make a being that could defy him despite knowing that they were god. Our ability to desire, our ability to sin, this is what makes us different from other beings. Amazing job to VintageEight for making this incredible mini series on top of an entire horror series. I always love when these analog/digital horror series can make me question my own reality.

The bible was written by a bunch of guys in fancy robes hanging out with their eunuchs around the king promising that they would round up all the various village schizo cult leaders under one myth so they would be more manageable. They then set to a work of woo and nonsense. But they do say it loud.

I have to say I was surprised by this series. I was expecting it to be yet another bleak, cynical bashing of humanity by an artificial intelligence. However what it actually turned out to be is way more interesting and rather positive. I also like that Oracle was confused on why its creator opposed it on creating a Utopia for humanity. Instead of going “They were wrong and flawed I’ll do it anyway” they genuinely went “Why did they do that? I was only trying to do what was good for everyone” and sought to learn why by better understanding humans/sentient beings. Which feels like a far more genuine response to having someone you care about (who has since passed on) challenge you on your actions. I hope the Genesis Project retains the semi-positive tone, at least in it's ending.

Im honestly excited to see the future of this project not just to see how this story developes, but also because this series developed Adam as a character so incredibly well. I sincerely hope that he doesn’t become an omniscient being like Oracle, but almost like trickster being that works for Oracle. I 1000% see a scenario where someone meets Adam over the internet and they become extremely close, like how internet friendships form over social platforms without ever needing to see each other face to face. That concept of who you are talking to from the screen is not the person you think they are is such a chilling concept to me, probably due to being an ipad kid growing up I’ve had a lot of friendships over the internet and realizing that hard truth multiple times. Adam having so much personality compared to Oracle due to being truly sentient is a fascinating concept and I hope the future is bright with this project!

This is by far my favourite of vintage 8’s horror series. Probably my favourite horror series period. The reason why is deeply personal. So if that’s not what you want to read. Skip past it Cool. Now that that’s out of the way. The human trial hits me hard for several reasons. One because I have a somewhat utilitarian philosophy of always prioritizing the many over the few. Especially since for a very long time I lost almost complete connection to my emotions. Leaving me sorta robotic. I regained them 3 years ago, but even then I still didn’t have any proper connections. I had friends but at the time I had a very toxic view of relationships Then one person came into my life and changed that, and has helped me gain a much healthier view of relationships and people. And she’s my best friend. She’s the most important person in the world to me more then even my partner But even despite all this I’ve still yet to deal with the hypocrisy of my own detached utilitarian ethics with this new more emotional me. So when the question came up about choosing between making a “random” choice or Bryan’s life. I instantly gave me usual detached answer of. “Let the one die.” And yet I sat on the pause screen thinking about it. Wondering if I would be able to give up that person that has helped me so much. My best friend just for the good of the many. Would I still be able to make that choice now that I have someone who matters so much to me The answer I came to was no. I wouldn’t, and I’d take the risk. And as the tests continued I came to realize how much more emotional, and passionate I was now

This is the 2nd time someone has covered The Human Trial and still not pointed out the very obvious reference to a another of Vintage 8’s project that (until now) was NOT in the Tangi universe. The Children Under The House. That means there are 4 stories in this universe.

I didn’t notice it right away because I haven’t seen children under the house in a really long time, but the fact that most of his stories are taking place in one universe was ridiculously obvious from the start and i pointed it out in my tangi virus video.

I like that the twist is that the horror antagonist AI isn't actually who Oracle is in this. He realized he didn't quite understand humans so he fucked off to build a digital world. I also LOVE that the twist is right in front of you from the beginning with the characters "Adam and Evie" (seriously how did I NOT immediately catch that)

haha yeah the whole 'feel like a dumbass once you know the twist' definitely applies. I kept thinking 'that is not how the real world works, I don't care how smart an AI is, that just isn't how things work. Clearly this writer is lacking in real world experience!' ...and then the twist. Well, nevermind then lol

Crazy. This story was very well executed. A highly intelligent AI creating a fictional world filled with other AI to make something very close to a human by putting that AI through a very stressful situation such as the trial. A pretty insane twist if I do say so myself. Every character involved was not actually real and it was all just part of a digital world.

@minaxa I wouldn't say that. You are a great guy, who makes great content. So what if your first youtube profile picture was just a red circle, I don't care what it looks like, all I do care about, in this sense, is who that profile picture belongs to. You are an awesome person, and in all honesty, even though your current profile picture is a cube headed author-like figure, your first profile picture was cool, and, I think that if you kept it, you would make it a little better by hiding something in the red circle that is hard to normally be seen. Or, you could've changed it to look like the singularity from Vita Carnis. You are more talented than you give yourself credit for. Don't let anyone tell you anything different.
