The European pond turtle. A unique relic of Polish nature
In northern and central Europe, the European pond turtle is now a very rare animal and has
been included in the Red List of Threatened Animals in many countries.
The main reason for the disappearance of this species was humans, who have destroyed its
populations and habitats for hundreds of years. In many regions of Europe it was caughten
masse for culinary purposes.
The European pond turtle is the only naturally occurring species of turtle in Poland.
The film allows you to get to know this unusual reptile better.

Best documentary... old school ... Animals are the subjects... not the film makers.

Yeah, I want my kids to learn that nature is beautiful, not that man is destroying everything and that they, and every other human, should be exterminated because we should love animals more than people. The impulse to conserve and husband nature comes from the understanding of its beauty and of man's place in creation. I'm really sick of nature videos expecting little kids to "save the planet". It is disgusting propaganda and shows that the real message is manipulation, not nature.

Yes, we think so too. ☺
European pond turtles are also bred here in the United States for pets. They are generally kept in large display aquariums or kept in backyard ponds. They can actually become very tame and love being petted. The red eared sliders are actually native to the Southern United States but they have become very invasive in parts of the United States where they don't occur naturally and they cause the same problems that they cause in Europe for our native species as well. Red eared sliders can become very tame pets as well.

@@forestfilmstudio I would really like to have a male and a female European pond turtle that I can breed and I want to release the young ones so that the species can return to the Danish nature. But it will be a big project. I am very envious that you have them in Poland. My plan is to start Next year.

Oh yeah!
It is true, you frequently find turtles where you don't expect them. Like in my driveway, no where near any significant body of water, just basking there. I should charge him (or her, too young to tell) for the trip back to a more suitable area without cars.
