Eric definitely needs to play Resident Evil 4 Remake. It’s an absolute must play. I don’t think he played the original so it’ll be more fun to see him play rather than Rick or Aaron who have. Probably won’t happen till scream stream though. Should give him enough time to finish Zelda and play Jedi Survivor.

One thing that struck me and it had to be intentional, was how similar the dialog and the scene was when Freya showed up with the noose strangling Odin, to the dialog and scene Freya shared with Baldur in the 2018 game. Baldur to Freya: I've spent the last 100 years dreaming of this moment. I practiced everything I wanted to say to you, every word. To make you understand exactly what you stole from me... Freya to Odin: I've spent many long winters thinking about what I would say to you as I watched you take your last breath. Baldur to Freya: But now I realize. I don't need you to understand anything. I don't need you at all. Freya to Odin: But now I realize there is only one thing I need you to know. You have no hold on me anymore. Also, as Baldur is strangling Freya to death. She tells him that she loves him. And as Odin is being strangled to death by Freya, he tells her that he's always loved her.

Huh, I’ve noticed a lot of the parallels between 2018 and Ragnarök, but I’ve never recognized how Freya’s dialogue with Odin resembles that of her and Baldur’s conversation in the last game. Thanks for pointing it out!

@15:55 THAT is the moment Kratos broke the cycle. The Norns said that all are so predictable that they can predict what will happen. But that moment, when Kratos decided to be better... that is when he changed and the "prophecy" changed.

The only thing I would've added to Brok's funeral is to have Atreus there in some way. Maybe not with the main group on the shore out of respect for Sindri, but maybe he could've been on a ridge overlooking the funeral. Then at some point before Sindri vanished, Atreus would morph into his wolf form and give a mournful howl. A howl to say goodbye to his two lost friends. Brok and Sindri.

And a story ends, by being the beginning of new ones It's interesting that Odin's death was mirrored by the prophecy, though I must admit I wish we did see Fenrir just eat him accurate to myth. Freyr's death surprised me too, in Norse Myth he does indeed die to Surtr, but it's stated this is because he didn't have his sword and fought only with an antler; however here he dies with his sword anyway. Thor's death saddened me though, inches he was from making a turn, but Odin robbed him of his chance at redemption. But the interactions were great; Kratos' story, the score when Gjallahorn is sounded, Kratos telling Atreus to open his heart to people, the combo fighting, Odin's death - including Sindri getting the final blow with Brok's hammer, and Kratos and Atreus' goodbye were very well done. The additional ending though, they say the Norse saga is done, but with Sindri's path suggesting a more darker turn it does feel like there is a bit more to the tale, so I wonder what they will do next, and how they'll do it. If you want to go back there's still more to play; Gna and Hrolf are very high difficulty boss fights, plus there's still all of Vanaheim to deal with

The way they setup Kratos to take Tyr's place as God of war in the DLC as well as his own son being Loki himself indicates the Norse mythology will still be a main part of the story. That is, if we ever get another GoW game. When we have such a perfect ending like this, it scares me that they may try to "force" a new plot that doesn't make sense for the characters, just to have the excuse to make more games to farm the franchise. It's like when your favorite series start getting a couple of seasons too many. Like, what could possibly be the next development in the story, the next "villain"? Going after other pantheons wouldn't make sense for Kratos, unless it's something very predictable such as "Atreus was kidnapped by the Egyptian gods, now Kratos is mad". So it's either that or an invading force (but again, who?)

I haven't seen it said about this line yet but Kratos is literally watching essentially what happened to himself in God of War 2 play out between Thor and Odin. "I didn't want this, I did not want this" as he is killing Thor has HUGE correlation to when Zeus stabbed him and said "It did not have to be this way my son, this path is of your choosing" but the difference is what comes after. Thor was never given a choice, and even if he ever thought he did it would have just been an implanted choice from Odin's manipulation, similar to Kratos carrying out various tasks to attempt to appease the gods of Greece so they would remove his nightmares, but as Kratos says "A choice from the gods is as useless as the gods themselves". I can certainly imagine Kratos was ready to beat Odin's ass after reliving that memory, but still paying off his arc of doing it for justice instead of vengeance

I see longtime fans of the series talk about how its out of character for Kratos to have such deep emotions for people close to him, and how different he is now, but that alone was basically his entire motivation from the start. Whether it was his brother, his wife and daughter, Faye, or Atreus. It just takes a long time for a guy that thick skinned to be able to show it outwardly

This game is great. One of the best games ever made. But I definitely had some issues. Especially the ending. It felt too rushed. Considering how very long the game was, the preparation and commencing of the final battle was all done so very fast and not in the best way. A lot of the preparation was done off screen and the only part that happened on screen was eventually useless and even a detriment. There was so much foreshadowing of people dying and the war not going our way but everything went off without a hitch. The only casualty we experienced in the final battle was one that WE caused. Kratos wasn’t even slightly in danger of dying. Not that I wanted him to die, but when they left god of war 4 on a cliffhanger of Kratos with a prophecy of dying, it was all anyone was talking about for years, and literally nothing came of it. They didn’t even bring it up. I just wish there was a bit more consequence. Taking down Odin felt too easy.

  • @ketchup016

They brought it up? That was Atreus' whole motivation for going to Asgard, etc. But I do agree the final battle felt rushed or a bit of a let down. The part that bummed me out a little was Surtr tbh. Converting him to the "monster" was cool but then it felt like he didn't have any effect on the battle (except killing Freyr, which felt like an afterthought). Anyway, it was still a great game like you said. They had a lot of balls in the air and it's hard to land all of them perfectly.

@@ketchup016 I mean they didn’t bring it up at the end of the game. All the characters kept talking about Kratos’ death like it was completely unavoidable. But then he just…didn’t die. That’s all there was to it. I also hate that we killed Surtr for no reason. And because we did, we got Freyr and some innocent people killed. The only casualties we had in the huge climactic final battle weren’t from our enemy they were our fault.

Their predictions are based on what's most likely to happen based on peoples nature and since people rarely go against their nature they're rarely wrong.
