Another great nugget, Russell that really worked for me today! I watch a lot of You Tube golf instruction and no one has a higher ratio of insightful gems like this than you do. You have a real knack for giving us simple uncomplicated instruction but combining it with a comprehensive explanation of the technical justification for it so each of us can go as deeply into the theory as we chose. Thank you.

Always enjoy the content, but none more than watching this video late last night before a 7am tee today 😃 took what you said on board and whilst not every single one was a great draw, I didn't slice a shot, only just missed 2 fairways, went from a usual 90-95 to an 80! Bonkers mad 😂

Hi Russell, this is exactly my problem. I have even taken my driver out of the bag for most of the season. Doing actually not bad without it but I need the confidence to bring it back into play. Will give this a go on the range. Thanks for the pep talk!

I was suffering from a slice with the driver. It wasn't there at the beginning of the season but after a few months of playing it crept into my game. How I fixed it, and I'm sure it's a little different for every golfer. On the driving range I focused on turning my right hip back as far as I could during the back swing. This must have given me the room to swing down onto the inside of the ball.

The high draw is great; I love the shot shape. Hitting right to left is my natural pattern. However, a lot of pros (Tony Finau, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, Gary Woodland, for example) these days seem to be going for a left to right movement. Rory says that design of the modern drivers fits this shape, so he's been working on the fade as well. Whether it's a low cut or a big power fade, left to right is a go-to shot for many players these days. Could you do a similar video to this one, but giving us tips on the fade shot?

Very interesting ! If I was a serious low handicapper I would get lessons in person or by video link. I have taken my Driver out of the equation. Off the tee with my fairway woods or my hybrids works 90% + of the time - which is ok for me. For younger golfers who want to progress - take lessons and get this issue sorted !

A cause and effect most don’t realize or use in the golf swing is the fact the swing path in the backswing can be influenced be where the toe of the club is pointing when the club force cocks the wrist. You don’t change how the club is gripped, just how it is manipulated swinging it back. If kept angled forward as it cocks in the wrists at extension the club will pull the hands up high like Nicklaus ideal for hitting fades. But the if the right hand allows the left to pronate and turn the toe up or slightly backwards it will pull the club around lower with the hands winding up shoulder height similar to Hogan ideal for creating a tight side-bend tucked in low swing radius for hitting draws. The pronation action used for the draw is the same cause and effect which causes a beginner to swing too low and bend the elbows which is caused because they lay the toe of the club too open when it cocks. I discovered this while experimenting to see how different toe directions at extension when the club momentum forces the club to cock - letting the force do in not trying to steer it with the hands. As I said the grip is normal, you just control how much the left hand pronates with the counter pressure of right hand against left, quite literally dialing in fade, straight, draw toe angles with rotation of the right wrist as club is being swung back. It works because letting the toe turn over with face open to sky by pronating the left hand causes the club force to pulls the right forearm back and elbow into the side more than when the toe is pointing towards target line when wrists cock and club head changes direction.

I get my mind confused. Im a former baseball player and lefty. When I'm trying to hit a draw and hitting the ball out to the left, I feel like my clubface is open even more by trying to hit it out to the left. How do you visually think about hitting to the left but with a closed clubface? I just cannot get it to make any sense in my head.

I missed the part about HOW to hit a draw. Roll your arms....is that it? It seems most of the video was about spine tip. I tip, but that alone can produce pull, push, slice, draw or some combination of these. Maybe I can think it into existence if positive enough.

It’s probably true that if you are trying to teach someone a high draw. They are probably a beginner. If they are a beginner they probably have a hand me down driver. If not it’s fresh off the rack. That being said. I’d advise the first piece of advice you give would be to check the lie and loft of the driver. On the adjustable sleeve. Because a high draw with a driver with 7 degrees of loft and 4 degree open face might be difficult for the best players, let alone a beginner.
