Phenomenon this got to be Hotel China

This is an amazing arrangement for this instrument. Guzheng is usually tuned to pentatonic scale, which does not have all the notes naturally that are necessary to articulate Hotel California. This musician demonstrated comprehensive technical skills and deep understanding of Guzheng to be able to fit Hotel California into an arrangement on an instrument which essentially has 5 pentatonic notes.

I play guitar and the very first thing that came to mind was this must be fun to restring and tune LOL! Sounds beautiful and looks like a very well made instrument and I do not want to know what this example would cost as I am sure it's not cheap. Almost looks like it has more in common with a piano rather than a guitar BUT I know not a damn thing about this instrument.

Guzhen normally tuned to pentatonic but left hand can push the string down which create all the notes a guitar can play. The truth is most guzhen players in china are basic level players who can’t explore the guzhen potential like this amazing master can do. On top of that, she demonstrated guzhen is not only sounds great for traditional Chinese music but sounds jaw dropping for western music too

@@irisge5609 I'm pretty sure this has been tuned diatonic - if you look at 1:00 in the video you can get a good look at the strings and they are green / 2 white / red / 3 white - so if the red are green strings are the semitones would give you 8 notes per octave with a TTSTTTS pattern, which exactly matches the diatonic scale.

It’s like.. listening to this for the first time It’s like.. coming home after a long hard ride It’s like… grandma’s cooking on a rainy day after youre home from playing with your best friends It’s like memories.

Sometimes Chinese musical instruments can fall somewhat harshly on my western ear, but this? This was f*cking perfect!

To be honest, I also reminded the time of Qin Dynasty, which was 2200 years ago from now（GuZheng was invented during the Qin state）. I had an image of the scene when Jing Ke traveling to Xianyang from the 'Biography of Assassins' in Sima Qian's 'Records of the Grand Historian'. A very delicate instrument of the old China...she is eight wonder of the world this instrument is only found in China during the Chinese Emperor reign and those who mastered this kind of musical instrument are those who dedicate their life to study & play and to this days someone who really play their heart out are amongst the star and this lady is one if them. The Hell Freezes Over acoustic version of Hotel California was my first exposure to the Eagles when I was about 11. It remains my favorite version of the song, and you nailed nearly EVERY nuance of the recording on what appears to be a very challenging instrument - one not usually tuned for such things to begin with. An absolute masterpiece in its own right - very well done!

@ferretyluv yeah, the original came out in 1976 I believe. It's good and is definitely a classic, but something about the acoustic version is both stripped down but more complex/nuanced at the same time, if that makes sense? Just a masterful version of the song...it'll always be my favorite.

I saw that concert when the tour was in San Jose. They opened with this version of Hotel California. Yes, the original was with electric guitars. I much prefer this one, but both are great in their own right.

The player is absolutely amazing. It was 1994 when this version of the song Hotel California was released from the Hell Freezes Over Album. It was 18 years after the original version came out. I love this version better, maybe I was middle-aged at that time. Now I am 63 and I still prefer this version more the original version or the one that they played in their world tour about 20 years ago, starting with a trumpet played by a supporting musician. Always love this great song by the Eagles.

This would make Don Henley cry, it's such a beautiful performance, and it could even be blended in with the singing to rework a classic song into something fresh and new. Bravo!

I think at this point free bird is what is everyone's mind next. This kind of mastery is so impressive and the sounds are perfectly curated to the style which makes it genuinely pleasant to listen to.
