This was when the Doobies were at their best (before the MIchael Mc Donald era). They were a straight up rock band with great group singing.

Their great music began in my college years and continued from there. Some bands change their set lists every concert. Alice Cooper does this because he has such a large library of hits. Love this live performance and your reaction, Maggie.

My very favorite Doobie Bros. song, and that's saying a lot, and probably in my top 15 favorite songs. With all the different change ups and the use of fiddle (not violin), harmonica, and even the clapping makes it one of the songs with best groovy feel to it. Also, the content is much like my youth, homemade rafts, catfish jumping around, being out on the water all night long. Now you need to hear the studio album cut to hear the full sound.

Someone is missing from this performance. I think it's whoever would normally sing bass or baritone. There's a more prominent bass vocal part in the harmony sections that is part of the studio recording. It adds a necessary foundation, more depth and complements the rhythm.

Hi Maggie. While I agree with you about the set sheets, I have to say that sometimes (especially in the 70s lol) some of the entertainers may have had a 2nd sheet reminding them what city they were in!! Nice reaction btw. Love your energy, Stay safe and well!

Maggie, i bought this album in 70s..... my car radio had a problem with rear speakers & since this is recorded in stereo w/ split sound that is not put out on each speaker, I never heard the whole song. Mostly just heard parts of "harmony".... like at around 7:35 - 7:45 word like "I wanna Honkytonk" was all of this song I heard for almost 6 months.

Ah the music of my youth! I was just out of high school when this was first released in 1974. The original was recorded without Michael McDonald which is why the harmonies sound a little different to me. He joined in 1975. I’ve primarily heard it performed with him doing harmony. You can always hear him whenever he’s in the mix. The Doobies are an awesome band. There is such diversity in their music. Lots of pop of course but some blues and light rock built in there too. McDonald took over a lot of their leads until he left the band. He has a very distinctive voice. Their songs like Minute by Minute, What a Fool Believes, Listen to the Music, China Grove are all classics.

I don't know if you've done this or not. ''As the years go passing by'' by Eric Burdon and the Animals. It's a long version of the classic blues song and, in my opinion, one of the best. I appreciate that you are a professional singer reacting. Not really a big fan of watching people watching videos but it has made me rediscover some songs that I didn't pay as much attention as I could have. I'm 74 so 14 when The Beatles arrived in my life and changed it. I worked with musicians for many years. Anyway, keep up the good work. Not many I look at. You're one of them.
