Don't worry girl, a 58 year man is again misty eyed again. 😊
I’m 70 & this was a major part of my childhood!💜💜💜
I'm 71 and this brings back so many great memories. Thanks Maggie
I was born in 63 so this song has been my life from birth. ❤
Born in 59. This song has been a part of me almost forever.
This song still makes me cry. Such an honest look at the loss of a child's innocence. ❤
I agree. Wholesome songs like this aren't made anymore. 😢
I’m 67 and I absolutely loved to hear them sing this. It’s a great song
I know I am not the only one crying. 😥😥😥 I am 67, I had the 45 and listened to it for hours.

Stookey wrote "The Wedding Song", to which many couples have been married over the years. He is now to be among you at the calling of your hearts. Rest assured this troubadour is acting on His part. The union of your spirits here has caused Him to remain for whenever two or more of you are gathered in His name There is love There is love

This was played at my Wedding. People were in tears, especially those who never heard it before.
I'm 67. This has been one of my favorite songs
‘78 born here and I remember seeing this performed several times as a kid on tv. So pure and brings tears to my eyes every time. Thank you Maggie
I'm 71 and I listened to this as a child. I've never heard this particular rendition before and I was crying. You need to listen to "500 miles" by this group because it is so moving. The 60's had everything from folk, to folk-rock, to synthesizers, to hard rock and the beginnings of metal. I still miss the "Leslie" amplified speakers on the organs of the 60's. The peculiar warble of that amplified speaker is beautiful to my ears.
My generation was the proudly the first to witness this magic. My Mom had the album. I'll have to dig, but I may still have it. So glad so many kids have been blessed by this song.❤. Blessings sweetie. Grandma Shirley out ❤
This song came out the year I was born and I still love it to this day. Folk music of the 60's was more than just protest or country style music, but some of the best story songs ever written and sung.
Millions of people grew up to this song i loved it as a kid and still do as a soon to be 49 year old man. this song first came out in 1963.
I remember being about 5 and crying my eyes out because Puff was so sad. And now I'm old and the truth of the song still remains. No more tears though, as Puff is alive and well, and mighty as ever. Great post.
I’m 57. Big part of my childhood too. Brilliant reaction.
'62 born here... my ENTIRE life... and I got to meet PP&M... they were EXACTLY as you would expect... but when you listen to them, remember there is a 4th, very important musician... Dick Kniss... the ever present, behind the scenes bassist...

I had the EP and the cover had a puzzle of Puff on it. I’m now 63 yo and still cry when I hear this. My absolute favourite in my kiddy years.
Peter and Paul lived up to the old saying "Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't." And poor Mary saying "Now boys "
I still remember watching the cartoon as a kid. Brought back fond memories
I was surprised how good the audience was.
In the live performances I have watched, Yes us older folks know the lyrics, but it was surprising the number of our children knew them, and how many of their children at least knew the chorus. This song never gets old.
That was performed at their 25th anniversary concert. Download the entire concert for their greatest songs.
Mugs all around. ❤ This is the childhood of so many of us.
Wow, wow, wow that is my childhood - and a great showcase of talent, pure and unaltered. Voices, instruments and the audience. We have lost so much in our digital, manipulated, autotuned world. Love this.
Puff, the Magic Dragon" (or just "Puff") is a song written by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary from a poem by Leonard Lipton. Yes for us older folks tis can be powerful, and yet heartbreaking all at the same time. I'm 68, a former school music teacher, and now, after this, I know for sure Maggie Renee is the REAL DEAL, and an old heart deep inside....she needs to sing to us more and get it out there.
I was so lucky to know Paul working on the Eugene McCarthy campaign in 1968, and in later years was fortunate enough to see them in concert with backstage passes several times when they toured colleges.
Thank you very much for this. I am 80 I have tears down my cheeks. They had so much wonderful music.
I'm not crying, you're crying! This made me so happy. I had a huge smile on my face for the entire song!
Peter Yarrow, Noel Paul Stookey, and Mary Travers put a young singer-songwriter named Robert Zimmerman on the map with their version of "Blowin' In The Wind". Bob D. had written it in 1962; it was on his second album.
I was 7 years old when this came out - one of my favorite songs of all time. Other songs of theirs I grew up with are: "Where have all the flowers gone", "The Lemon Tree", "Leaving on a Jet Plane", and "Blowin in the Wind".
My first concert was Peter, Paul and Mary in the round. I will never forget it.
This song came out when I was a child and it was magical back then and it’s still magical today. Beautiful song.
I was 9 and had the measles when this song hit number 1 on the charts; can remember hearing it over and over on the little portable radio in my bedroom and loving it every time.
❤ I'm 65. I just teared up, big time. 🥲
Thing is, this song wasn't part of my childhood, but listening to it, it was. It just has that quality.
Such a nice trip down memory lane.
Second time I have seen her speechless.
I learned this song as a young child just a year or two after it was first released. Now that I'm old enough to understand it's true meaning, it brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it.
I saw Peter, Paul, and Mary in 1964 with my mom and my aunt. I was 6 years old. I am now 65.❤🎵🎵🎵😊
I love them telling the story about how this was misconstrued to be a song about drugs. People can take anything and turn it into a “hidden meaning” meant to brainwash us all. This is just a beautiful song. Still makes me cry after 60 years. Thanks for showing it. ❤❤
I served in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive & would watch "Puff, the Magic Dragon" rain down bright red tracer fire at night. "Puff" was the name given to the original AC-47 (DC-3) gunship & then used generically to refer to all AC-47 gunships. Many of the USO bands entertaining the troops would play the song.
I LOVE this song! I used to swing to this in my back yard as a child! Not that I can sing! lol!
If I had a time machine I'd go to a PP&M concert around 1963 or 64.
It's always a good day when the artists encourage audience participation.
Saw them live twice. Love them.
Many years ago I saw them in concert when they played a benefit in Oklahoma City for recovery after the federal building bombing. What I didn't know was the benefit was partly coordinated by a family friend, and he invited us to go backstage afterwards to meet these wonderful performers. It was one of the best days ever.
Those three made magic for a lot of us. That was not their only popular song.
Watched this in the 80's , glad to see again. I also grew up with this song.
I can't believe I actually cried.😭
Oh, and I was born in 1943 so I was 20 when this came out and it became a staple for my three daughters and me to sing at bedtime.
This is the first time I ever teared up listening to this song. Realizing just how old ai am . Grieving the loss of my innocence I guess.
The kid next door had this on a 45, we would listen to this, Beatles and a wide variety of songs
Irish Rovers 'The Unicorn' and 'Wasn't that a Party"
This song means a lot to me because my sister would sing it to me when I had a bad dream or was afraid. I always have tears when this song is being played either on the radio or on KZread.
This song has been around for so long that the first generation to hear it is now playing it for their great-grandchildren. YES, it has been that long. And they all still love it. It hits one way when you are 5 and totally different when you are 35. So many memories and emotions. In case you don't know, when "Puff the Magic Dragon" was originally released, some thought it was a drug culture reference. All you have to do is listen to the final verse, it's about growing up and putting childhood behind. If you ever wondered where the overall plot of "Toy Story" came from, it's the same idea.
Such an awesome song. So frickin' full of emotion. I grew up singing this. Even as a teenager, I had no problem singing this song, especially sitting around a campfire up in the canyons as we cooked stiff in Dutch oven and made S'mores and we were teenagers. Such magical memories When I was 15, the TV show came out and my family watched it, all 11 of us. Then when I became a daddy, I sang this song to my boys, only had sons, when it came night night time. Bought the book to read to them while on trips or at bed time. Wore the book out. The boys memorized the story and took turns "reading" the book to each other. The also wore out the VCR. After my second divorce, when I got my two youngest sons on the weekends, they were 3 and 4, I would take a couple of daughters of a single mom along, and spent Saturdays doing things with them. First thing they wanted to do when the got in the minivan was put the DVD in and listened to "PtMD", "Witch Doctor" by the Cartoons, and "They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha Ha" several times. Sidenote: I blubbered walking each girl down the aisle, I became their step-in dad. Now their kids sing those songs and everybody joins in, except the "Ha Ha" song. My exes and the girls" mum still think I was sick to teach them that song when they were young. Maggie, thank you so much for bring back those memories. ❤
That whole video concert is just gold. Brings tears to me when I hear them as they were such a treasure and remind me of the brief folk music scene of the early sixties.
So many memories from childhood. These songs will live forever there and so glad it's still relevant😢😂❤
I sang to my son at bedtime, at the end I'd sing, boom boom, and Alex would say no boom booms dad. I saw them perform while I attended college, never forget the power in her voice! Peace from Northern Michigan.
This song peaked at no. 2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1963. So, it was a major hit.
most of us growing up in the 60's knew what Puff represented
Aah the memories this song brings back ! This song is a timeless masterpiece in my mind.
I was fortunate to see Peter, Paul and Mary live in concert at the college I attended and they were wonderful. That was somewhere around 1963 if my memory is still functioning. This song touched and involved the audience just like we are watching here.
Back in 79 little 5yo me sang this at my aunts wedding, my uncle played guitar.
Peter Yarrow wrote a book based on the song. It's a beautiful children's illustrated book. I have bought it numerous times for family and friends who have little ones. How better to keep Puff Happy and alive than to introduce your little ones to the Msgic Dragon. On a Side note, not all little boys grow out of their wonder of things Magical. Right here is one! 60 years old and I still get tears of joy and sadness whenever I hear this song. And I have it on my main Playlist and listen to it often. As to other songs. They wrote Blowing in tge Wind, If I Had A Hammer, Where Have All the Flowers Gone. 500 miles. I have loved these three for years.
I love this song so much it always reminded me of my dad. I miss you dad. Father and son forever and always ❤

Damn who's peeling onions! Thank you Maggie.
I don't know why I still cry over this song Love it
Love this trio. They were an American folk group formed in 1961. They had a lot of great hits such as "Lemon Tree", "500 Miles", "If I Had A Hammer", "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?", "Leaving On A Jet Plane", "Day Is Done". They recorded quite a few of Bob Dylan's songs such as "Blowin' In The Wind", "The Times They Are a-Changin'", "Don't Think Twice, It's All Right", "When The Ship Comes In" etc.

They also recorded Early Morning Rain a song penned by the late lamented Gordon Lightfoot.
Still my favorite P.P.&M song of all times and I was NOT a child when it came out. In fact the oldest of them, the late Mary Travers is only 7 yrs older than me.
If you can find a copy of "Peter, Paul, & Mary in Concert" Paul prefaces the song with a monologue about "The Dragon" which is priceless
OH HOW I LOVE THE CARTOON THATS BRINGS THIS TO LIFE ..THANK YOU FOR THIS FLASHBACK TO MY CHILDHOOD 😭❤
I would imagine that this is the dream of any performer. To have an entire audience literally in the palm of your hand.

When you are soo good at what you do, and do it with love and respect for the audience this happened.
When I was wee and little, I had a fisher price phonograph player that played 45s, and I had this gem and wore it out.
Only one thing I can say, you smiled from ear to ear, thank you for making me cry
There's a longer one that shows Puff being found by the next generation after a time in the attic and loved again.
I remember being 5 yrs old in the early 1970s and playing this record over and over and over and over. And when I needed a change I played my record of American Pie.
They did a lot of lovely songs in the 60s beautiful folk singers
The reason for his intro, ive heard so many people claim my whole life that this song was really about drugs, and I've always rejected that explanation. The claims were first made by people in the hippie movemnt, trying to claim this song as their own, while tripping on acid. Then it became the claim of the ultra religious movement sweeping the country in the 80's while looking for evil in every song ever written. This trio was always about folk music and never the drug scene.

in school, we had a course about literature, and our teacher forced us to anylaze and overanalyze a short little poem for two or three weeks until we had "found" all the secret meanings that the author had included in it. we always were annoyed and asked why there HAD to be so many secret meanings, and were told that that would be the beautiful art of writing poems. as a final piece of those discussions, she played a radio interview with that author to us (that she had not heard herself yet), and got a HUGE laughter from us when the author was asked by the journalist what the deeper meaning was, which was answered by _"oh, i thought it would be a funny little poem with no special meaning"_ ... ps: i just looked up this song on wikipedia and was told that it was claimed by hippies (marihuana) as well as the military (red tracer ammunition). what a joke when the same song was used by those opposite sides. and i myself am glad that puff (the *dragon* spacecraft) now went to space too. it once again shows that it is not a word or a sentence that is bad (derogatory, insulting, etc) by itself, but the meaning that people associate with it. all that "political correctness" to not use specific words and find and avoid any possible or impossible secret meaning is worth nothing if people don't understand the problems themselves what is bad about those words, and imho also eg bleeping words instead of saying them is even worse when everybody knows exactly what the bleep stands for but now feels fine when the word was not openly said on american tv. the word was not the bad thing, but its presumed meaning which now applies also to the bleep, _you bleeping bleeps_ (you b.e.a.u.tiful people, or what did you think i just said, LOL) *enjoy nice music and the ability of people to create and perform without the need for artificial help (autotune, or whatever).*
I love this song, I cry every time I hear it, but love it.
I watched the 25th PP&M anniversary special on KQED when it aired live as a child with my parents and younger brother. All of us either sat transfixed or sang throughout the entire duration!
Love that he spoke up and solved the mystery of what it’s about!! All of us originals knew it was an innocent song about childhood and nothing more!!👍
I remember playing their albums when I was a kid in the early 1960s.
And you can go see Puff anytime you want to.
So wonderful! Grew up with them and had the pleasure of seeing them multiple times at Westbury Music Fair on Long Island. They were magic! So miss them.
My wife and I saw PP&M around this time. It was incredible. Great concert.
It was a pleasure watching you expression during that.
I got goosebumps too - and I was born in 1941.
Where have all the flowers gone, and leaving on a jet plane
I had a friend who's wife had a son who died around seven or eight years old. He said he could not play this song in their house because it was her son's favourite song. I didn't pry into the details but I always suspected that the lyrics, 'A dragon lives forever but not so little boys' was probably the part that would tear her heart out. Nice reaction.
Aww I loved this song. I had a big book with drawings of this song. Them playing by the shore and also of Puff going into his cave 😢
Thanks! The lyrics are a poem written by Lenny Lipton, originally inspired by an old poem by Ogden Nash about a dragon and a pirate. The music was written by Peter Yarrow of Peter Paul and Mary. Yarrow and Lipton have always shared the songwriter royalties. I am very happy that you enjoyed this so much. 😃
