Hmm I dont think Alice Cooper himself said that it is about drugs use. Here is what he himself has said about this song: "“‘Poison’ was that dark, sensual, come hither song,” the singer explains. “It was an immediate hit. It was one of those songs that just went through the roof all over the world…the message was ‘you’re poison, I love you, but I know you’re going to kill me’ and everybody has been through that.” Basically it is about that love that you know is bad for you but you cant help but be with that person even if you know that you will eventually get hurt.

Although Alice Cooper has never confirmed the meaning of Poison, many theories say that the poison he speaks of is the alcohol he was addicted to for a long time. This would be confirmed by verses that metaphorically could refer to a bottle such as: I wanna taste you but your lips are venomous poison. You’re poison, running through my veins.

Alice Cooper puts on some of the best live shows I've ever seen, and I've seen some great ones in my life. I saw him in my hometown last year and it was amazing. Sold out show. Super nice dude, as well. Spent a lot of time walking around our Downtown district and frequenting the local businesses. He even used a costume from a local shop in his show. Just a cool Friday the 13th night.

I have been an Alice fan and seen pretty much every tour since the 70s. His touring band the last few years has been the best in the business. I am a HUGE fan of guitarist Nita "Hurricane" Strauss who I have also caught live doing solo performances. Alice is touring with Rob Zombie... if you get a chance, you should definitely catch a show. We are lucky to still have Alice performing live so catch him while you can.

7:05 Charles is dead wrong about associating this with heroin. This was released in 90ish time frame, and Alice had been sober since 1985. Keep in mind Desmond Child was working heavily on the album, producing and writing songs with Alice. The lyrics may have come from Desmond Child. But as a 45 year long supporter of Alice Cooper (he's playing 70 dates in 2024 BTW), I take strong exception to anyone implying this was about Alice romanticizing about drugs.

One of his biggest hits and my fave of his. The subject of addiction has proved a super-fertile ground for songwriting. But I like the way he uses a type of poetic euphemism to craft the lyrics. As an artist suffering from substance abuse, I’m sure he needed a creative outlet to channel and funnel his experience. And as for me, even though I have my habits and fixes, I’ve never touched any hard stuff. If I did, I might be one of the too many homeless types sadly lost on the streets of the city where I live.

"Poison" is a song by American musician Alice Cooper. Written by Cooper, producer Desmond Child and guitarist John McCurry, the song was released as a single in July 1989 from Cooper's eighteenth album, Trash. It became one of Cooper's biggest hit singles in the United States, peaking at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100. The power ballad[6][7] performed even better in the UK by peaking at number two on the UK Singles Chart. "Poison" marked a major comeback for Alice Cooper, becoming his first Top 10 hit in the US and UK for 12 and 16 years respectively, and remains one of his best known songs. It is ranked by Billboard as the "91st top song of 1989", while Ultimate Classic Rock ranked it as the "7th best Alice Cooper song", commenting "Poison sounds like a typical '80s pop-metal number at times, but Cooper’s intensity brings it to a whole other level."[8] The song's main riff was written by guitarist John McCurry, who two years earlier had used it for the John Waite track "Encircled". Music video There are two versions of the video to the song, one of which shows Alice Cooper being chained to a bizarre mechanism and singing while a ghostly woman looms over him. The original video had to be censored for showings during the day, due to shots of a topless model. Rana Kennedy plays the roles of both women in the video but the topless scene were shot with a body double.[9] This is notably visible in the video. The studios in which the video was filmed in spring of 1989 have since been torn down and are now a parking lot in Los Angeles. The video is still often played on MTV Classic's Metal Mayhem. This is eighties Alice; not bad; but not as good as old school. :)

While you are free to interpret music any way you like, this song, according to Alice, is about a toxic woman, not heroin.

For comparison take a listen to Tarja Turunen's (Nightwish) version. And there is no evidence the song is about heroin. The consensus is that it is about an overwhelming and dangerous lust/love of a woman.

To me this was the last great metal or hard rock song to come out of the 80's because sadly not long after this grunge would take over for a while. Thankfully metal would come back.

greetings and love from Germany. Has this guy, whats his name, Charles himself a problem with some substance or how does he come to give the song a completely wrong meaning? I mean he can interpret the song as he wants, but he shouldn't claim that Vincent Furnier (Alice) dedicated his song to drugs, which is completely absurd. And btw. the video you´ve watched was the censored version. Cause the pussy KZread is too woke to show womens skin and hot topless models. I just don't understand why many metal lyrics are still interpreted as drugs, even though the lyrics are pretty clear. Any fool can see that the song is about a fatal love affair. The person being sung about is described as poisonous, both physically and emotionally. She is like a "cruel device", a cruel device that causes pain, and her blood is "like ice", symbolizing her coldness and indifference to the singer's feelings. He is aware that this person is causing him pain ("One look could kill"). She is a source of suffering ("your thrill"), but he cannot break away from her ("I don't wanna break these chains"). The poison metaphor is used throughout to illustrate the harmful and addictive nature of this relationship. He is caught in her web ("Your web, I'm caught") and although he knows that she is harming him ("I want to hurt you just to hear you screaming my name"), he cannot stop desiring her. Overall, "Poison" is a song about obsessive and destructive love that damages both physically and emotionally.

Alice Cooper definitely.. early Allison concert he had a boa constrictor he would bring on stage. School's out was a really good hit. 18 that's a really good one how long left welcome to My nightmare. Those right there would be the top three to play. And not only did I beat the addiction on alcohol as I mentioned in 2013 during my cancer surgery I had died for a short time had an out of body experience and had something revealed to me that it wasn't my fault for what happened. I blamed myself for my mum's death. Long story and nobody would understand unless I explain it. But I saw the doctors trying to revive me before I got confirmation that it wasn't my fault. And she was there and told me that it wasn't and that she was tired and just wanted to go home. My mother had emphysema really bad. And when I moved to Texas after being here about a week he had passed and I took care of her for the last 3 years of her life back home in Ohio. An app for telling me she gave me a hug I gave her one back she kissed me on the cheek and I gave her one too and then I actually saw her crossover. And then I came back into my body and woke up very quickly and I was joking with the nurses. Nobody does that coming out from surgery. Edible doctors and are probably still does today how that even happened.
