That’s great. Means you didn’t have to wait for new releases, you came in with a big library already there. Somehow, Nirvana passed me by completely. Hadn’t even heard a song until I heard smells like teen spirit and I lost my damn mind in nirvana for years and decided to join a band and became a pretty shitty guitarist. Just good enough to charm an emo girl was what I aimed for and just about what I got. Barely.

Don’t know if you ever heard the story from Rick Rubin but that’s the line Serj was stuck on when Rick Rubin told him to go to any book on the shelf in his library and pick a book and passage at random. Serj picked up a book, opened it and pointed to “father into your hand I commend my spirit.”, a quote from the Bible. After that he finished the song.

The original title of this song was "Suicide" but the studios, somewhat understandably, couldn't allow this. So Serj, tongue in cheek, named it " CHOP" as in "CUT OUT" and "SUEY" as in "SUICIDE"-- with a reference at 2:00 eating Chinese takeout visibly unamused.

But I must say that the true magic happens when you see and hear everything in its entirely. Wtching and listening, seeing and hearing are entirely two different things. Like musicality and feelings... the moment the technicality becomes something that you can feel is the moment that music becomes magic. And no one does this better than you! ❤

You were right the 1st time. Its a reference to a Bible verse, Luke23:46. "Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, "Father, into your hands, I commit my spirit! - And having said this, he breathed his last". It was the last phrase of Jesus Christ upon the cross. It is a powerful moment, and one that indicated the end of Mosiac Law. Also, when he sings, " Father, Why have you forsasken me?" Its also a quotation of words Jesus said while he was crucified.

Great reaction good to see how open minded you are with different genres of music .👍 I think the distinguishable two voices in harmony at the end , make it more inviting for Audience participation , more anthem like . Problem is , it makes it hard to commit to which voice you want to wail along to ! Either way there's something about that harmony that makes you sing along with gusto and conviction , they arranged this with perfection . Great band , we just need more 😁

I'd love to see you at a SOAD concert, jumping up on stage in the middle of Chop Suey and telling the band, "Guys! We've got to go back to the beginning. I've got to hear those harmonies again!" Love your reactions.

I just love your reactions. So interesting to hear your analysis and takes on songs I already know and love. I think, for whatever reason, my personal favourites are the super emotional reactions (though the others, like this one, are really good as well :)). I think that perhaps the emotions helps create some sort of connection? And in a world where emotion is often frowned upon and seen as weakness, I thank and applaud you for showing those parts as well. I think the world needs more of that.

Exaclty, you can hear a through line from one tansition to the next, and once you've heard the song 10's of time, you hear it coming. Just like when you watch one of your favorite movies you've seen 10s of times, you can't wait for the next scene that you remember, is your favorite., and the build up is money.

That multitasking breakdown was great. There is so much going on in this song and Daron's screams are just animalistic.
