I'll never forget this song, as a "juke" played it on a certain night over 40 years ago. I awoke in a broke-down van outside Seroka's bar, stinking, hungover, comin' down after a 3-day high, hurtin', and mean. The "biker club" I belonged to, just buried its leader, after a drunken 16-year-old girl killed him in a traffic accident. I went back into the bar to see if a "cold-one" would help my disposition. Short story, a fellow member and sadistic sociopath named "Skeech," vying for leader, started riding me. Angry words and punches were thrown, as I saw him make a move for his "Python." I drew my Colt .45 first, placed the business end a couple inches from his bleeding nose, giving him a hard look into eternity. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I see unfriendly hands reach for "iron and steel," interrupted by a blast through the window from Seroka's double-barrel "coach gun." My friend "Shades" was on the other end of it ...smiling and telling everyone to throw their hardware out of that window. I relieved Skeech of his .357, grab my mug of beer and smashed it across his face. As Skeech laid on the floor with blood flowing over what was left of his teeth, like water over a dam, Shades and I split, kicking over bikes and haulin' ass as far and as fast as we could. Miles later, we hid in a cornfield that night. I REALLY like this song, ...lotta good memories.

Love Judas Priest! Rob halford voice is my happy place. Just hearing his voice makes me happy. They have such a diverse catalog of music from so many years. I’ve been listening to this song since elementary school. Rob is called “the metal god” he is just the coolest guy on the planet. Love him and the entire band is amazing. Two lead guitars dueling together. Legendary. While robs voice isn’t as strong as it was back in the day he still got it. They still put out music- rob is in his 70s!

It’s one of the few Judas Priest songs that my local classic rock station plays semi-regularly. It’s this one, ‘Living After Midnight’, ‘Turbo Lover’, and very occasionally ‘Breaking the Law’.

My one regret about Rob Halford waited decades to reveal he's gay. Apparently he and/or the band believed the band's fans would turn on them if Rob Halford came out as gay. I was glad that when he DID come out, the fan base was mostly completely unconcerned. Halford should have never been made to feel ashamed of who and what he is. Most of us only cared that Rob is an epic front man for an iconic metal band. The movie "Rock Star", starring Mark Wahlberg, was (VERY!!!) loosely based on Rob Halford and Judas Priest.

  • @paulwalsh2344

Yeah... but Rob's loss was probably our gain though unfortunately... but Rob's too frankly. I mean... although I agree that it's tragic when someone has to hide their authentic selves and it can and most often does cause internal pain and sometimes (often) substance abuse... what would the world have missed if it were the case ? Regarding Rob's tremendous vocal range and most notably his unearthly Metal God screams...as Rob sings in his solo band Halford's "Silent Screams" "Every time I scream I'm killing pain.... I"M KILLING PAIAIAIAIAIAIAIAI AIAIAIAI AIAIAIAI AIAIAIAINNNN ! ! ! Also listen to Halford's song "Resurrection" I swear it's autobiographical: "I'm digging deep inside my soul To bring myself out of this God-damned hole I rid the demons from my heart And found the truth was with me from the start Holy angel lift me from this burning hell Resurrection make me whole Son of Judas bring the saints to my revenge Resurrection bring me home I walked alone into a Fight No longer standing in satanic light I tried to look too far ahead And saw the road go to my past instead Holy angel lift me from this burning hell Resurrection make me whole Son of Judas bring the saints to my revenge Resurrection bring me home I've faced the things I've said and done There is no bastard left to overcome The peace of mind I thought was lost Was right in front of me on paths I've crossed" First verse is the reasoning for leaving Priest... a band that conjured up a lot of evil, violent and satan-ish imagery. Second verse, being happy with his solo career while Judas Priest was, let's face it, not at their top. You know the saying "the best revenge is a life well lived". Third verse is about his two solo bands. "Walking alone into a "Fight". Many of Fight's songs had social overtones or were about different mental states. Trying to "look too far ahead".. his industrial metal band 2WO. The verses thereafter Rob coming to grips with who he really was and returning to his roots, METAL with his solo band Halford and then the eventual triumphant return to Judas Priest. So unfortunately... or fortunately it is just another story about life's path...

They were interviewing Rob's vocal coach, whose name I can't remember, on NPR, and Rob asked her to teach him how to scream loud, without ripping out his vocal cords., early in his career. She then demonstrated on the air, the scream that she taught Rob to do, which he mastered and did it throughout his career. So, don't try screaming in your garage band. Rob is a trained professional.

Shelton?... Rob is 71 .... he invented the heavy metal fashion ... btw, this is 1982, whereas one has to take a dip at "Breaking the Law" (1980)

If you really, really want to hear the metal god Rob Halford use a wide vocal range and variance of tonality annunciation in his voice, you should review the Judas Priest song "Dreamer Deceiver." Thank you. 🤘🙂👍
