The KZread channel Titanic Truths already did a fantastic job of ripping that idea to shreds, TWICE, but seeing as you guys are like the best online source for Titanic info, it would probably hit home even harder if you did it as well.

There are very few true journalists that just present the facts and only the facts without spin these days and the world is suffering for it.

I admittedly almost fallen victim to the switch theory before, then I started looking at many MANY pictures of both Titanic and Olympic from construction to Titanic leaving Southampton and Olympic far after. RESULTS: I found out the Titanic Switch conspiracy theorists are just very stupid and don't do much research or they are types to falsify information to make people/government look bad because I tracked both ships and flaws happened, Olympic never had that unevenly spaced window design even from refits after the Titanic sank, and the B-Deck design they used as proof appeared on Titanic before Olympic and Titanic were in the same place again due to the HMS Hawke collision (again, because there was one time where the Olympic was there for a while probably due to a shredded propeller and the Titanic was noticeably unfinished.) The Titanic set sail with the same design Titanic had when Olympic was going into the drydock for repairs from the collision with the Hawke, the theory just kept falling apart from there... It was later when I found out the layout of both ships and I saw the obvious differences in layout that couldn't be swapped and the theory to me was dead. My knowledge of Titanic is now really good, I even know the styles of suites on B-Deck and C-Deck and what order they would go.

I remember one time my friend told me the theory that the titanic sank because "one of the bolts were loose" I was like ?????? and I realized later he was loosely remembering a theory that he probably heard on some random ass sketchy ass part of the internet. He was talking about the theory that the Titanic would have survived when it hit the iceberg but it didn't because the steal was brittle and the bolts weren't well constructed. Lmfao. Isn't that the stupidest thing you've ever heard? Like the titanic was pretty much the strongest ship in the world at the time and the white star line would never build a ship with weak brittle steal.

I remember someone mentioning that they were related to a quartermaster who took command of Lifeboat 4, who we know to be Walter Perkis. Unless they are deceitful to the point of doing research to seem more believable, we can tell that this person is telling the truth because of how obscure Perkis was.

As a former reactionary, I'm unfortunately quite familiar with the tactics yellow journalists use to gain attention. What's sadder to me is that these yellow journalists are inexplicably *still* popular on places like KZread, and all they do is cause trouble in the various communities they gravitate towards. They pollute the algorithms and make finding good videos with actual, credible sources tougher to find. Their tactics are effective, but the content itself is hot garbage. It's bad enough these yellow journalists taint the various geek communities out there for things such as video games and comics, but to see them also existing in communities dedicated to understanding the history of something like Titanic? It just feels utterly tasteless and disrespectful.

Instead, he wore a wig from the day Titanic left Southampton until the night of the sinking, when he heroically saved an abandoned child aboard one of the ship’s collapsible lifeboats.

jdslyman James Cameron has story-telling 101 down, but don’t expect much more from him. Making Cal a complex character, perhaps socially isolated by his family’s wealth and upbringing, and inappropriate for Rose in their whole arranged marriage, and a total arrogant ass in the beginning, only for him to have some kind of non romantic redemption arc at the end would have been too much to ask. They could have even made Lovejoy come unhinged if they simple had to have the getting-shot-at-by-a-commercially-unavailable-gun-in 1912-while-running-through-sinking-titanic-action-scene.

And Cal have a radical shift in personality as a result would be a good way of showing that some came out stronger from the tragedy (Molly Brown is the prime example of this). Also, I've read that the nickel-plated M1911 was chosen over others because that particular gun had actually been manufactured in the year 1912 (albeit it was part of an exclusive run of pistols that were made as gifts for NRA members) and was still in working order.

There were also whole sections within the hull with a different layout. They would literally have to rip out chunks of Titanic's interior and decks and then rebuild them to resemble Olympic's layout.

I absolutely loved this video. It's about time that these people got brought up for the utter rubbish they produce. The coal fire theory has always riled me up. I remember one person telling me that the coal fire was not extinguished and Captain Smith just sailed out of Southampton with it raging. I said some thing along the lines of ' if the ship was left on fire like you said, why didn't the ship burn down like the Queen Elizabeth or Normandie?' I also told the person that they were disrespecting the Captain and other crew. You should check out the KZread channel Super Duper Facts. They're a bit addicted to these false portrayals of the Titanic. The best thing I've seen on their channel is when they were talking about the Lusitania. The wreck popped up on screen but it didn't take much to realise that it was in fact the wreck of the Andrea Doria! It's as if these channels just go Google search 'shopwreck' and go through their extensive list of checks: Is it a boat? Is it underwater? I think you're doing the right thing by shining a spotlight on some of the twaddle we can find online.

Hi folks! Great video! This is a fascinating topic in 20th century studies, and I do feel that it's played a large role in a part of the Titanic story you didn't bring up. Mainly, that of Joseph Bruce Ismay. Much of the original vilification in the contemporary media was the result of the work of William Randolph Hearst, media king and major proponent of Yellow Journalism. Ismay and Hearst had some sort of falling out, which I suspect was due to Ismay's introverted nature and dislike of press contact. Hearst went out of his way to paint his enemy as the villain of the disaster. This reputation lingers in the modern world. I won't pretend that Ismay didn't make mistakes, but a lot of the modern perceptions of him can be traced directly back to Hearst's yellow journalism and character assassination of Ismay.

Thank you! I live your channel. As an artist and a historian I can't tell you how often I've been approached at times, and even at my exhibit in Lewiston NY, about myths including my personal pet peeve: the 'Switch' theory. Not only is this idea simply impossible and inexplicable but, as you say, its sensationalist . we, the younger generation, have to keep the facts straight as Marshall, Mills, Ballard and others expect and hope. I don't blame them if they get discouraged at times over how insulting certain ideas are, such as a 'Titanic 2' which is a cruel joke of a project. I take a survivor's point of view when it comes to that one.

I have enjoyed all of your videos and I appreciate the work you do in making them as factually accurate as possible. I can tell you guys are passionate about the topics you cover, whether it’s directly related to the Titanic or another ship in history. That being said, this might be my favorite of your videos. I have worked in news before - both online and print, in opinion writing and hardline reporting. What people don’t seem to understand lately is that “clickbait” has been around for A LOT longer than the internet has. Whether it’s called “yellow journalism” or something else, it exists to make money and get attention. Sadly, tragedies and disasters are fertile ground for distorting the truth and creating false or misleading headlines to grab readers’ attention. Attention = views. Views = ratings/ad revenue. I don’t care what news outlet you’re talking about, if it’s a large national news company or a smaller KZread channel, they all do this to one degree or another. I got so fed up with the reality of news reporting that I eventually chose a different career path. First thing I learned in my journalism classes: if it bleeds, it leads. Even to this day, a story related the Titanic will always bring in the views. The more outlandish, the better. And, I hate to say it, it is precisely because so many people lost their lives in the sinking that it’s such a popular topic to create falsehoods about. I will link to this video when the topic comes up and people try to claim “fake news” is some new phenomenon. Nope. It is as old as news itself.
