White Star Line scrapped it because they probably could not afford to retrofit it. At that time they went bankrupt and merged with Cunard. The ship was getting outdated and immigrant rides had stopped, so it was decided to scrap it.

"White Star Line scrapped it because they probably could not afford to retrofit it." So what? why not just sell the ship as a museum :') and leave it there like the QM, who cares if it's sold to another company. "The ship was getting outdated " Or so they say... I personally don't belive in the "outdatet bull crap, I mean, the pyramids of Giza are outdated af, why don't they "scrap" them too huh? Actually scrapping a ship like the Olympic so that people can have pieces of Olympic here and there is like "scrapping" the pyramids so that people could have a piece of the pyramid in their house... it's horrible.

I really hope that you can license out your final Titanic 3D model to museums and other educational institutions after the game is released. Too much effort has gone into it for it to be limited to the shelf life of a game. I honestly doubt whether even the Chinese full size non-working replica of Titanic has gone to the same level of research that your team has, and that’s a multi-million dollar project. (In fact, I hope you are safeguarding your data well, the Chinese would probably love to hack into it and steal your research for themselves.)

100% agree tim... these guys are putting monumental effort to achieve historical accuracy, I think licencing it to educational institutions is a good idea... especially museums... I suspect they have has difficulty finding investors because from a 'game selling' commercial point of view, that level of detail isn't necessary.

This reminds of me how restorations/recreation process of historical artifacts and architecture works, or at least is supposed to work, in Korea (and I'm assuming many other countries). Korea, despite having over 3000 years of history, has very little records, artifacts, and buildings surviving anytime before the 1400s, mostly because of the numerous invasions and wars. As a result, few movies and TV dramas based on those ancient eras have an unfortunate tendency to make a lot of things up. But when it comes to serious recreations such as in virtual reality or actual restorations (though not always successful), historians would look to any scant clues found in artifacts, artworks, and surviving literature and records from the exact era. Even if there are not very many records, archeological evidence would either validate or provide additional information that wouldn't be in writing. Often, they would mention important details in passing or contain visual references that give an insight into life during that time. If that is not enough, then the historians would look to the corresponding architecture, art, and records from the neighboring countries from China and Japan especially because cultural movement often moved from China to Korea to Japan. Even if China and Japan have very differing architectures, looking into what they have can give us a clue of how the cultural exchange happened and allow us to extrapolate what our version may have looked like. While there is only so much this process can take us especially when we are talking about pre-1400s, this is perhaps the best way to hunt for any kernel of information and pass that onto the next generation. I do wish however that our restoration teams would be as exacting as you good folks in Titanic Honor and Glory are...

I'm super excited for this! The Titanic has been one of my favorite subjects since I was young. Now I have a question, I know your making the entire ship. I've seen the boiler room in the demo, but I was wondering what about the rest of the engine? Will we see the entire thing? I am really interested in seeing the large room with the pistons. (I believe their pistons... could be wrong :P) One of my favorite shots in the 90's movie was seeing the pistons in action with all the crew running around to try and put the ship in reverse. I'm not asking for working pistons, but will that part of the engine be included?

Also, will the engine telegraphs, on the bridge, be color coded for main engines, maneuvering, emergency, and docking? One more, will the Titanic include the engine telegraphs, emergency and main engines, in the engine room?

"It's Kinda like Jurassic Park" to quote Dr. Malcolm, "Before you even knew what you had, you patented it and packaged it and slapped it on a plastic lunchbox, and now you’re selling it, you want to sell it." (I'm kidding btw really looking forward to the game!)

Do you guys have a copy of "Titanic: The Ship Magnificent"? I just discovered this book and it looks like a gold mine of these kinds of details.

« Not well documented »... There were some books about the titanic at the time, some of them even had plans for the whole ship 8ncluding the machine room. But a floor plan and an actual photography aren’t the same at all, I agree with that.

Good morning from Australia fellas. Are you interested to use the new ray tracing technologies from Nvidia for the final game? This would look even more jaw droopingly amazing with accurate reflections! Thank you.
