The Crusades: Part 1

Dr. Roy Casagranda starts by laying out the backgrounds for the primary actors: the Arabs, the Romans, the Seljuks, the Pope of Rome, and the Normans. He proposes that there were three proto-Crusades: The Norman invasion of Sicily in 1061, the Siege of Barbastro by the Norman commander Guillaume de Montreuil of French, Burgundian, Catalan, Aragonese, and Norman soldiers in 1064, and Roussel de Bailleul's Norman principality of Galatia (1073-77). Finally, he starts the Crusades and gets to 1108.

WHAT IS HE MEANING OF LIFE? To have a relationship with God on earth so you can spend eternity together in Heaven. So, what pushes me away from God? Sin (lying, unforgiveness, sexual sins from lust, dishonouring parents, steeling, taking the Lord’s Name in vain etc) which leads to hell. But Jesus died on the Cross and rose from the dead to give you the ability to repent and Believe in Him as your Lord and Saviour to go to Heaven. The privilege of repenting is made possible through the Atonement of Jesus Christ/ So both Belief in Jesus as God and Repentance are needed. For example I would think that the conquering of Byzantium is hailed as a great achievement by islam but I think that's also wrong. It did wipe out a civilization after all.

People get things wrong all the time but being wrong on Jesus divinity is a BIG mistake that shouldn’t be made. Jesus claimed to be ONE with the Father, so he claimed to be God hence the crucifixion but He also rose from the dead defeating death, I follow the living not the dead. Matthew 16: 13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” 14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” 17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not [g]prevail against it.

Waiting impatiently for part 2 I'm happy that I've found not so boring history teacher. I'm quite familiar with Muslim history but have no idea about European history. Your lectures help me connect dots. Big thanks to you.

No, stop it. Stop pushing your religion on others. It's extremely rude and self-centered.

Best person to listen history from. And he suddenly mentioned my favourite book on Earth, "Crusades Through Arab's Eyes" by Amin Maalouf. That was a shock in a good way. Listen to him in other videos, like the classic one about Khalid bin Valid.

The term Nİcea as you mentioned is in Turkey is called IZNIK now. (I s are i actually) It is the same place is where the council of Nicea was held... thanks for interesting lessons.
