    Folks with kids should not haul them around in insanely expensive and sophisticated automobiles, that’s not just dumb, it’s sacrilegious. I’m sure some German engineer at MB cried himself to sleep tonight after seeing what your kid did (thoughtlessly I might add) to that beautiful door panel! Also, you have plenty of hooptees you can do burnouts with, please don’t molest this car! Everything Mercedes knows went into making this car, and let’s face it: that’s a LOT! Respect the car! No point trying to destroy it all in the first 2 weeks of ownership! They still turn heads here in Dubai where we see the craziest cars on a daily basis! Get an ‘82 Tercel to haul your kids around, do it for a week! They’ll get the message, and it’s also good parenting!

    @@mikedemarchelier9090 I understand your passion here but Hoovies family rides top style whatever that is. The car can always be fixed. I actually greatly respect Hoovie for saying his girl broke it but she's a hellion JUST LIKE HE WAS... He didn't say it with any anger. At the end of the day , it's just car someone got rid of because they knew it was about to get horrendously expensive to maintain. A classic car for sure, but still.... just a car. I feel more love for the Hurst Mustang he has up on the rack then this wonderful Mercedes. But that's just me.

    Try this brilliant little tip that I have invented. And it really really works. While the jaguar engine is on the bench, get a microfiber rag and a can of satin black spray paint,,,now then I have been doing this for over 30 years. Make a ball shape at one end of the rag and wet it with the paint. Now without being too gentle scrub the sides of the block and this will absolutely make the block look new but, 1950s new and it won't look painted. Trust me it is so worth it hoovie ✌️👍

  • @wingracer1614

    @wingracer1614

    Жыл бұрын

    Maybe, maybe not. I used to be in the glass business and yes, many low volume exotics like this had very hard to find and very expensive windshields. But not only are such windshields expensive to replace, they are expensive to have manufactured so when they can, they will use an off the shelf windshield from an existing model. This may very well have a standard Merc windshield you can get from any glass supplier for a couple hundred bucks. Or it may be a bespoke item now unobtainable and you would have to track down the one warehouse somewhere that had the sense to buy a whole crate of them before they stopped production and would be happy to ship one to you, for a couple grand of course. The real expense will probably be those door glasses as those are probably bespoke items. Possibly the backglass as well since even standard Mercs tend to have very expensive backglasses.

    This is one of my favorite cars. Every since I delivered one overnight to the Mercedes dealership in Dallas from three states away ( I never stopped to eat or sleep so fearful was I that something would happen to them) They had a 57 on the carpeted sales floor. Absolutely stunning. I'd still love to own one today.

    I was trying to purchase a Maybach 57 from MB of Plano a few years ago. It had suspension issues and ultimately, because of this and it’s inability to pass state inspection because of the struts (even though I was going to take it out-of-state), refused to sell it to me and sent it to auction. I bought a S65 instead…and promptly had to replace the ABC tandem pump. I think I’m better off!

    The ABC tandem pump and the dynamic seat system pump. The AMG models use the hydraulic rather than the airmatic suspension. Together it was about $5k. Before buying the car, I verified the spark plugs and coil packs had been recently replaced; about $6-7k with labor at the dealer. Another big ticket item are the brake rotors. MB gets about $1,800 per rotor...just the rotor.

    I bet the belt is wider because of the high power alternator. So other accessories like the water pump might be the same but with a swapped pulley for the wider belt. So if your pulley doesn't break on one of those components you might be able to get a standard s class part and swap pullies.

Probably the most reliable Jaguar I've owned at this point, although my XJS with the inline 6 was pretty solid all around. I traded that for a Mercedes 380 SEC V8 coupe that has been a fun project. It's extremely far from perfect so I'm tempted to put together a widebody for it like some others have done.

    If it's an idler pulley, you can press the bearings out of the pulley, and in many cases get a similar bearing from a place like motion. Usually the bearings are held in with a spring clip. Probably a lot cheaper than a new pulley, esp in this case.

  • @muskokamike127
    @muskokamike127 Жыл бұрын

    That noise, could be an idler pulley. My ford was like that. When it was cold the bearing in the idler squealed then once it warmed up and got hot (and expanded) it tightened up the blown bearings and stopped.

Maybe mercedes is making more of these parts but last time we quoted an alternator for a maybach 57 it was approx $20,000 and the last COMAND unit we quoted ended up coming in at $40,000.....which is quite ridiculous to say the least. I've been "fortunate" enough to get to work on/drive a few 57's and just being in the car is an experience.
