Folks with kids should not haul them around in insanely expensive and sophisticated automobiles, that’s not just dumb, it’s sacrilegious. I’m sure some German engineer at MB cried himself to sleep tonight after seeing what your kid did (thoughtlessly I might add) to that beautiful door panel! Also, you have plenty of hooptees you can do burnouts with, please don’t molest this car! Everything Mercedes knows went into making this car, and let’s face it: that’s a LOT! Respect the car! No point trying to destroy it all in the first 2 weeks of ownership! They still turn heads here in Dubai where we see the craziest cars on a daily basis! Get an ‘82 Tercel to haul your kids around, do it for a week! They’ll get the message, and it’s also good parenting!

@@mikedemarchelier9090 I understand your passion here but Hoovies family rides top style whatever that is. The car can always be fixed. I actually greatly respect Hoovie for saying his girl broke it but she's a hellion JUST LIKE HE WAS... He didn't say it with any anger. At the end of the day , it's just car someone got rid of because they knew it was about to get horrendously expensive to maintain. A classic car for sure, but still.... just a car. Try this brilliant little tip that I have invented. And it really really works. While the jaguar engine is on the bench, get a microfiber rag and a can of satin black spray paint,,,now then I have been doing this for over 30 years. Make a ball shape at one end of the rag and wet it with the paint. Now without being too gentle scrub the sides of the block and this will absolutely make the block look new but, 1950s new and it won't look painted. Trust me it is so worth it hoovie ✌️👍
My first thought when I saw the “this is better than a minivan!” video was that a windshield replacement probably costs more than my Honda Odyssey… and I feel pretty confident that it is.
@wingracer1614
Жыл бұрын
Maybe, maybe not. I used to be in the glass business and yes, many low volume exotics like this had very hard to find and very expensive windshields. But not only are such windshields expensive to replace, they are expensive to have manufactured so when they can, they will use an off the shelf windshield from an existing model. This may very well have a standard Merc windshield you can get from any glass supplier for a couple hundred bucks. Or it may be a bespoke item now unobtainable and you would have to track down the one warehouse somewhere that had the sense to buy a whole crate of them before they stopped production and would be happy to ship one to you, for a couple grand of course. The real expense will probably be those door glasses as those are probably bespoke items. Possibly the backglass as well since even standard Mercs tend to have very expensive backglasses.

At 2:26 you mentioned the coil pack is 6 coils in one span. You are correct it is in one span but this motor is actually two spark plugs per cylinder so both of the two ignition coil units contain 12 per side. For a total of 24 spark plugs!

You’d need a killer test bench to test that alternator. Some rebuilders get military testers. Mine has a 5HP electric motor that alternator would pop my circuit and stop the motor way before I got it under a full load. Thankfully there’s still a couple hundred good rebuilders like myself left in this country who can rebuild your alternator for way less than $7000.

If it's an idler pulley, you can press the bearings out of the pulley, and in many cases get a similar bearing from a place like motion. Usually the bearings are held in with a spring clip. Probably a lot cheaper than a new pulley, esp in this case.
That noise, could be an idler pulley. My ford was like that. When it was cold the bearing in the idler squealed then once it warmed up and got hot (and expanded) it tightened up the blown bearings and stopped.

Hoovie talks about that in the first video. Some sort of business owner in Houston if I remember correctly.
When hoovie and car wizard get together and make a random videos on, unscripted, it's so much fun to watch very humorous, shout out to the car wizard such a beautiful character fun and down to earth god bless him, I like it when hoovie and car wizard get together. I just want to see he's face when you bring more BMW'S. Bless both of you!!!!!.
Thank you for sharing!
I bet it would look so much better with the updated wheels on it.
The fly on hoovie's shoulder at 5:50 is classic 😂

Epic depreciated piece of junk that looks like a Hearst.
I think a great video would be to do a couple Uber drive with this thing and get riders reactions.

Maybe ten years ago when KZread was new and exciting. That is about as exciting as watching a cat follow a laster pointer beam across the wall. Been there.. done that.

Uber actually wouldn’t allow you to drive with this car, it’s far too old.

Uber us only cars less than 10 years old
We had a 62 at my job...driving it in the shop was fun....definitely my favorite mercedes tho
lol, all i gotta say is you got a GOOD deal deal on some of these parts. Maybe mercedes is making more of these parts but last time we quoted an alternator for a maybach 57 it was approx $20,000 and the last COMAND unit we quoted ended up coming in at $40,000.....which is quite ridiculous to say the least. I've been "fortunate" enough to get to work on/drive a few 57's and just being in the car is an experience.
