The craziest freshwater fish - Atlantic Salmon

Спорт

Join us as we meet up with John Giuliani in Sault St Marie and fish the St Marys river for the elusive Atlantic Salmon. These fish are hard fighting, acrobatic creatures who are not easy to catch.
John is a stellar guide on this system and knows the ins and outs.

Great video. Those of us that live here are spoiled by such a crazy fishery. This is on top of the world class steelhead and walleye. And in the Soo nobody knows the river like John. Thanks for highlighting the great fishery and thanks to LSSU for the world class program!

In just a 20 mile radius you can catch more species of fish than you can shake a stick at.

Great show!! What was the tackle set up? It seemed you had drop shot setup and a jighead at the bottom and John had a sliding sinker thing. Please explain.

kvg44gbs I hear you man. If you did a 15-20 minute compilation of the 100+ bobber downs you get a summer though I think it’d get at least 50K views! If you ever want to experiment with it a bit shoot me a text sometime and I’ll help you get started 👍🏼

Occasionally nailing them on Lake Ontario, Port Credit, Ontario. Not jumping as much as Steelhead does. Beautiful fish. Atlantics enter big, clean northern Europe rivers to spawn. Have not heard them doing same in Canadian part of Lake Ontario streams. Local Ministry of Environment is involved in Atlantic hatchery program although not as successful as King salmon one. I've been fishing great lakes salmon and steelhead for 10years but never heard of catching salmonoids on paddle tails. It seams from videos of watched that it is a big water method only?

I am disappointed when i catch salmon as small as that but i live in Norway so it's a whole different ballgame. Nice fat healthy fish and nice to see a different way of fishing them:)

Nice fish! No way that female was 13-14lbs, more like 9. Your a little long on keeping them out of the water. One year at the hatchery, two years out on the lake and another year on the boat for pictures. Lol. I’m just busting balls. You help people catch them, now let me help you release them. Get the lure out their mouth while in the net and water, then have your client come to the net and make a quick lift for a picture. You would be lucky if 3 out of 4 survived.

To show I have no ill will. I will pass the most deadly tip you will receive for landlocks. When the salmon are not reacting to your jerk retrieve, try actively jiggling it near the bottom with the tip near the surface and LIFT the jig up 4 to 8 feet in a steady motion. Not too fast not too slow. On 1 cast I try to jiggle jiggle jiggle LIFT jiggle jiggle jiggle jiggle jiggle LIFT jiggle jiggle jiggle jiggle jiggle LIFT. Often they will smack it right before the jig leaves the surface. If the water is 15 feet deep I might lift four or 5 feet off the bottom and lower my rod jiggling it back down. If the water is 10 foot or less, I will bring that jig right to the surface. Good luck sir
