The best tasting fish are the ones that you cook right away after catching them. I was taught that by my father who I unfortunately lost in February of 2018. I will never forget all of the times that we fished together. Keep up your great work that you do on your videos. Keep on fishing.

Progress not perfection An older guy at the gym told me that a few weeks ago and I really appreciated it. Its hard to be perfect, some might say impossible, but its not terribly hard to make progress. Don't let the chase of perfection stop you from simply making progress
It's very enjoyable watching you fish and camp out. Even better knowing you leave a place better than you found it

Drum are my second favorite fish next to a blue cat. But if you take an extra pole holder you can tie that stringer off to it to help prevent those from pulling it out of the ground
You should infuse a couple sticks of butter with onion powder and garlic powder. Then filled off a side and leave the scales on and throw it on the charcoal grill skin side down. Absolutely amazing!
One of the first river trips I took my step son on , at 6 yrs old , I got to coach him while he reeled in a 6 1/2 lbs. Drum ,,,, one of the greatest fishing experiences of my life ! That's an absolutely beautiful spot to fish. I've wanted to get into drum fishing lately. I recently came across a couple articles talking about how underappreciated they were as a sport fish. Drum on the grill seasoned with lemon pepper has been a fave of mine for years.
I grew up calling drum "sheephead". Whenever we caught some, we'd give them to my Dad's friend who would cut them up into bite-sized chunks and pickle them with onions (and later mushrooms, my suggestion ;) ). He called them "tasty treats". You could eat 'em out of the jar or on a cracker. Best fresh because the pieces would be nice and firm. Pretty dang tasty, indeed. (Also, your videos are great. They are my preferred lunch time viewing. Keep filming and sharing!)

I would catch these all night off a concrete pier in Cleveland on Lake Erie. Some guys would save them and I would give mine to them. I caught one once that was as long as my leg. I had my finger through the gill and the tail was slapping my boot. I asked these guys if they wanted it and they were more than happy to take it. We always called them Sheephead or Sheepshead. I thought them to be like Carp.

I eat the walleyes out of the Minnesota River. Anything I catch over 20 inches gets thrown back.
I have been slaying the drum on plastics in the Mississippi lately. Got about 50 in a few hours this morning. Ranging 9-20” or so. When the Mississippi comes up and gets a certain amount of that, they get stacked up in a predictable spot and man it’s like bluegill fishing one after the other 3-10 pounds all day long. It’s a very good time on walleye and bass gear.
Thanks for sharing! I've always thrown drum back. Might need to try eating it next time I catch one.
Hey River Certified. If you want to eliminate those chewy ones, try placing them on ice as soon as you catch them. I've been doing this for years and it's rare as heck for me to run into one with a chewy texture. I think that placing them on a stringer or in a live basket stresses them out and the stress somehow affects the texture of their flesh.

Drum are some good eating. My cousin and I used to catch them all the time in MO. Great tasting fillets. Sucks about your stringer, but, it happens!! And the trash. Yep, I try and pick up trash when I am out running around too. What really is bad, I have found that people who fish, are the BIGGEST litterers in the outdoors! I do a lot of backpacking and camping, and the trash is no where near as bad on the trails and campsites, as it is where people frequently fish. It seems like those that get out and "Enjoy" the outdoors, would be stewards of the waterways. But, just the opposite. I always carry extra trash bags with me for cleaning up other peoples trash. Even though you didnt pick up the trash for a thumbs up, the rest of us who clean up trash, appreciate your efforts!! Thank you sir!
