CLIP DESCRIPTION:
After invading the planet, the Lord Marshal (Colm Feore) of the Necromongers forces the citizens to bow to him. Left standing in the crowd, Riddick is only there to get revenge for the death of his friend Imam.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Vin Diesel returns as the nocturnally gifted antihero Riddick in this sequel to the 2000 cult item Pitch Black. Riddick, on the run from the law and evading mercenaries eager to claim the price on his head, seeks refuge on the planet of Helion, only to discover he's walked into a world in chaos. Helion has been seized by the Lord Marshall (Colm Feore), leader of the Necromongers, a race of bloodthirsty warriors determined to wipe out humanity throughout the universe. Aereon (Judi Dench), leader of Helion's "elementals," pleads with Riddick to join them in their fight for survival; Riddick agrees, hoping to fill out some of the blank chapters in his history along the way. As he plots his battle strategy against the Necromongers, Riddick becomes reacquainted with Kyra (Alexa Davalos), whom he knew as a girl but has since grown into a strong and beautiful woman eager to join him in the fight against the Lord Marshall.

I might have pulled a Rick from Rick and Morty with the leader right at the beginning and be like 'Well, that was fun. Now, I have to go get arrested in a highly secure and famous prison planet and break a girl out.'

@Ben Silva No, I kill the guy right there while he watching me do the knife thing. Of course, Rick wouldn't do it unless his daughter, Summer and Morty were in mentioned prison, likely to portal in, get his family then portal out and leave a device that set the prison up like Saw, or sp,e horror movie that kills the prisoners and guards in cruel ways that be crueler then the last.

I always thought that this scene has more impact than what is perceived at first sight. Riddick wasn't just there to kill a necromnger, he was there to avenge the death of one of the few people he called a friend. RIP Imam.

Yep. The only thing he does through the whole movie is trying to save the only people he cares about and who are also the only people who care about him. The fact he saved the galaxy and became the Lord Marshal of the Necros is just a side effect of this. :) Kinda like Mando saving Grogu and getting the darksaber as a side effect. :D They are my favourite characters because of this.

I remember reading about how Vin Diesel wants to do more Riddick films as it’s his favorite character that’s he’s portrayed but the reason he keeps making fast and furious movies is because people pay a lot of money to see them. In fact, he had to help finance the most recent Riddick film which shows his passion and respect for the universe of Riddick. Hope more come out in the future.

I love the look and mood of this film. Yes, okay, some of it seems contrived - a fiery planet called 'crematoria' and half dead villians with the title 'necromonger' does seem to be borderline silly. But even so, despite a bit of tongue-in-cheekiness I still like to watch it again and again. I think the supporting cast are excellent in this movie as well.. "Your first mistake was.. that you took the job" I sometimes think this to myself when I turn up for work in the mornings

You'd think it was contrived and silly, but I actually think this could have been one of the most cunning stories ever told. Wouldn't you just love to know where they intended on taking the story? After the 3rd movie I was ticked because I thought the next step was Riddick learning he needed to die to go to the Underverse after receiving the purification mark. Once there he'd be able to start a search in that universe that the dead Necromongers go, like Kiera would have. Then after that feat have to figure out how to go back to their verse as the Lord Marshal had done so for his campaign. What a helluva story that could have been..... Makes me wonder if that was all along their intent?

True... I sometimes think to myself that the script sounds like it was written by an edgy teenager from outside Hollywood, and then "adapted" for filming. I freaking LOVE the gigeresque aesthetic of the CoR universe, but lord I'd be lying if I said the plot/lore wasn't the edgiest and campiest thing I've seen. But that's action movies for you... they aren't known for their stellar plot.

I’m inclined to agree but the thing is that this movie only possibly broke even financially and was largely panned. Knowing how desperately the tiny budget of the third movie was scraped together I’m happy anything got made at all. With that budget in mind it makes sense they went the route it did And it made a decent profit.

This has to be one of the most underrated action sci-fi flicks of all time. Sure it’s not as gritty and thrilling as Pitch Black (2000) or Riddick (2013) but I like how much it expands on the universe, and there is a lot of fun moments to be had. I for one, found the shift in tone from horror to action to be quite an easy and welcome shift. It offers something completely different and new to bring to the franchise. Sure the movie takes a lot of risks, but the said risks pay off wonderfully.

They were trying to do too many things at once-build Riddick's origin story, create a subplot involving previous characters from Pitch Black, and develop the motive/lore of the necromongers. That's a lot to cram into a single movie, and while fun, it requires a lot of contrived and convenient plot devices to make it happen.
